Lesser black whipsnake
Demansia vestigiata
Venomous
Catcher: Hayley

Hayley was called out to a home in Port Curtis to catch this venomous whipsnake that had been hanging around the families home.

Unfortunately, as Hayley was going through the front gate, this snake must have sensed her presence and took off at a lightning pace! Just our luck, after a lengthy inspection of the yard and surrounding areas the snake was no where to be found.

If we are unable to catch a snake, we will come back to the property free of charge if the snake is sighted again within a 48 hour period.

Catcher- Lucas&Hayley

This Carpet Python was relocated from a home in Dululu, unfortunately in this instance the snake had helped itself to a pair of young kittens that were being looked after by the clients daughter.

The team quickly, and safely, removed this pet eater from the home and relocated it to a section of habitat far enough away that hopefully it wonโ€™t return.

Itโ€™s important to recognise that snakes donโ€™t go out of their way to target pets, they are simply creatures of instinct that play a vital role in the ecosystems that they inhabit.

This gorgeously coloured Tree Snake was removed from a young girls bedroom last night, as the parents feared it could be a highly venomous Red-bellied Black Snake.
Upon arrival, Lucas quickly identified the correct species and was able to happily relocate this little fella back out to the bush where he belongs.

WHY DO SNAKE CATCHERS CHARGE? ๐Ÿ

This is an old post from 2021 that got alot of social media coverage so decided to reshare with a few more words added.

Unfortunately in recent times in Townsville and afar our industry standard and โ€œworthโ€ has been put to the test with some backyard catchers starting up undercutting our fair honest fees by sometimes MORE THAN 50%. Some do this simply to get jobs in an already well established area, some do this as the pension is their main income and the extra 50% would heavily damage that. I ask that you do your homework on which catcher you choose, are they on google with a reputable website? Do they have a well established social media presence with good reviews and reputation in the community ? Are they actually insured and fully licensed? Are they doing this job for the right reasons with a high success rate on catches?

I will not lower my fees or my worth because someone has dropped theirs. We have a set standard in this industry and I wont ever undercut that. I will continue to set the standard for catchers in Central Queensland.

I also wanted to construct this post as lately and for some time Iโ€™ve had calls where I have been rather aggressively spoken to and even abused over the fact that myself and most licensed catchers charge for snake/animal relocations.

I myself am a 24 hour callout business. I will drop everything and wake up at any hour to attend a callout or help out over the phone as best as I professionally can. This job is what puts food on my table and what supports my children. It is a professional job like any other.

This line of work takes knowledge, skills, experience, legally binding permits and a considerable amount of high level risk as well.

We as snake catchers quite literally put our lives at risk removing some of the worlds most venomous snakes. One mistake and one bite depending on circumstances could be fatal for us.

Outside of the above mentioned, fuel and time is also another contributing factor as to why we charge for this service. I often travel from one side of Townsville to the other in the space of 2 back to back callouts. For example Alligator creek, to Bluewater. This burns a serious amount of fuel especially on a busy day. It is not financially feasible for anyone to take on multiple calls in a day and not suffer a serious financial loss doing it for free or for very little without a secondary or pensioner income.

Next is insurance. I and most other catchers have full liability insurance that we pay for. This isnโ€™t cheap but protects both myself and you as paying customers in case something goes wrong on your property. I have the maximum cover possible from any insurance company including personal injury and sickness cover.

Iโ€™d also like to point out that the cost of initially obtaining a permit to be legally able to catch and relocate snakes and other wildlife is not in any way cheap at all. We attend expensive snake handling courses, complete first aid and CPR certificates, working at heights and confined space certificates, Let alone the equipment and PPE needed to perform reptile relocation work.

It may seem effortless for us to pick up and bag a snake; often only spending minutes on a job before leaving; however please consider all the behind the scenes costs, risks and other efforts put into this line of work. Once we leave your property we also then need to find a suitable location for the release of the animal.

We are human and we donโ€™t need our line of work or our fees degraded over the phone. We understand not everyone can afford our callout fees and most of us are very flexible with payment plans and other payment options. I do multiple no charge jobs every week depending on circumstances. Please keep in mind myself charging and making a living off of this line of work is what keeps me full time and available 24/7 at a drop of a hat for you all.

Thank you all for the ongoing support! I absolutely love being the leading professional small local business offering this service for the community. ๐Ÿ™‚

Weโ€™d like to make a formal post saying farewell to one of the first catchers at this company! Cheney Booth, started with us around 8 months ago and has come a long way in that short amount of time. He did a fantastic job, copping the brunt of the call-outs while Jake and Max were working other jobs. Farewell mate! And Goodluck in your future ventures.

We were called out for a โ€œSnakeโ€ that was seen struggling to stay afloat in a pool. We rushed out to the scene for what was going to undoubtedly be a tricky rescue, to find this little fella languidly cruising through the water.

He was successfully relocated to some nearby bushland where he will hopefully thrive.

Now howโ€™s this for a โ€œBrownโ€ snake?
This little beauty is an awesome example of the colour variation in the common brown snake.

Jake and Max spent the better part of three hours trying to remove this snake from behind a laundry sink unit. Against the odds, in the end the boys prevailed and were able to release this absolutely stunning snake back to his natural habitat.

This large python was the prospective mate of the gigantic python we relocated from a home in rockyview yesterday!

The clients were woken at midnight tonight, hearing loud crashes from their rumpus room. Only to find a second large python cruising around. Two in one day, now thatโ€™s unlucky!
