This 1 Weird Paradox Will Change Your Training Forever ✨
This will probably shock you, but...
The very *best* way to get incredible results with your horse training is to ~let go~ of the need to achieve results.
Huh??
If you’re anything like me, you’ve heard a lot about focusing on your *goal* in order to achieve it. When you’re in a tough spot, just keep pushing💪 and you’ll make it happen 😎
Annoying truth bomb 💣: this doesn’t work with horses 🐴
You see, “shaping” is a KEY to successful horse training 🔑 and can be defined as: breaking a complex behavior down into tiny pieces, & rewarding the smallest try.
An incredibly important element to shaping is that, when your request becomes too difficult for the horse, you *must* go back down to an easier step in order to build the horse’s confidence back up 📈
And this one’s a doozy for many people, especially recovering perfectionists like myself 😬
Going back down to an easier step feels like utter failure when you’re holding an image of the successful, final outcome that you want in your mind 🧠
This causes resistance to this necessary part of the training process 👁
When you resist going to an easier step in your training, putting it off as long as you can...
You *will* be slowed down, because your horse still needs help working through fear/confusion, and she can sense your scary intensity rising 👀
And then? You’ll ultimately be further from your goal ☹️
I urge you to let go. Let go of that tight grip on your achievement dream list. When you’re with your horse, the very best thing you can do to achieve your goals is to show up 🐴
Show up to the training session with presence, openness, and a readiness to go back as much as your horse needs...
With an understanding that this “going back” is the most important part of the process. It’s the part that will launch you forward ✨
Be so present enjoying the journey that one day you’ll realize you’ve accomplished what you set out to do 😌 Celebrate 🎉 and then...
You’ll be ready for more ♥️
