I was called this morning by a member of the public for this beautiful little Northern brown bandicoot baby. Hes such a character, I'm in love with him. We called him Mokey.
His eyes are still closed, and his mouth is still partially sealed (see photo). He is feeding well though.

Did you know of the several bandicoot species in Australia, quite a few are listed as extinct, vulnerable or endangered.

Exciting things are happening at Wildlife Rescue! I will share with you shortly. With lots happening, we won't be relaxing like Mr Peebody here!

A quick note: despite the Covid-19 virus, i am still available for rescues, please don't hesitate to call!

Another carer rang me a few days ago as i was closer to a rescue than they were (isnt working together awesome!).

I picked up a beautiful BIG Torresian Imperial pigeon. His name is Louis, and hes a friend for George until they can grow a bit stronger for release in a few days.

This is London. One of the babies i got last week. Although he cannot be released, seeing as he is a non-native dove, i decided to keep him and raise him as a pet. He is stealing bits of my heart already especially his love of food, he near dives on me to find his food
😂
Did you know pigeon mummas make "pigeon milk" in their crop to feed baby and as gross as it sounds the babies suck it up as mum regurgitates it! We human mums improvise 😉

Torresian Imperial Pigeon i picked up today.
Isnt he beautiful!
These birds are migratory, so he will need to be released asap. He was vet checked and is in good health, so hopefully a few days rest and he will fly off.
Some people will tell you these birds are "Pied Imperial Pigeons", they would be incorrect. Pied Imperials are a separate species, and very rarely found in Australia.

You hit him. You know you did. You continued driving.i came through not 15sec later. He was still warm.

Don't worry, i checked that he had passed, and was in no pain. I moved him off the road so him mumma, who was standing over his body as i came around the corner, wouldn't be hit too. I placed him where his mum could safely say goodbye to her little boy.

Next time could you do me a favour? Just stop and check. If you don't want to get your hands dirty, give me a call. Rest peacefully baby boy.

I recieved these two little babies today. One was bitten by a cat, so hopefully with antibiotics he will do ok.

They are Spotted Doves. Unfortunately they are not native, therefore cannot be released. Would anyone like to handraise, and keep as pets, these little sweeties? They are usually lovely, placid, friendly birds when handraised. They're still being 'spoon-fed' so knowledge on how to do that is required.

Its not always spoken about. Usually its only happy stories, but sometimes the little ones don't make it, and it squeezes your heart everytime.
He might have been "just a bird" but he was a life, and he didn't get to live. Be at peace little Rumble. We cared xo 💔

Had a great lunch with Wild Woman Wildlife Rescue - Cassowary Coast Queensland and a few other local carers today. Its so great when we all get together to exchange ideas, and care tips, express concern and get advice from each other. This is what wildlife care should be! No money grabs, no inflated egos, just good ole fashioned "working together" to better the lives of our native wildlife.

This is Cheedi, found in the middle of the road tonight, with no parents in sight. Hopefully when we go back tomorrow we can find them and reunite him. Tonight he is safe. Cheedi is a baby Masked Lapwing/Plover.

Did you know that its a myth that parents wont go back to their young once a human has touched the baby. This is false, parents will more often than not, look after their young if they're popped back into the nest. 😊

Hazards of the job.

Mr Peebody learning to be a wild male Agile, includes learning to fight. In this instance he was loving pats, until he wasn't 😂

Hello wonderful people,

The curlew was happily released after a few days rest from a paralysis tick. He flew off, very happy. Stretch is still growing!

I would love to build a larger Aviary for any rescue birds we get. The minimum requirements of care state it has to be 3m wide x5m length x3m high.
So im on the lookout for any 1.5, 2.5 or 3m lengths of outdoor structural timber. Bunnings does supply, but im very happy to use secondhand (reuse, repurpose, recycle). If you see any timber lengths for sale, please let me know!

Thank you kindly!

(Photo is of a previously rehabilitated and released baby, Charlotte, orphaned at 240g!)

Stretch is a fledgling Graceful Honeyeater. He came into care on Saturday (top of photo). The bottom left is on Tuesday and bottom right is today (Thursday). He has grown so fast, today he is in the large outdoor cage learning about flowers and flying.

Beautiful Bush-Stone Curlew that came into care this afternoon. He had a paralysis tick, so hopefully a few days rest and he can be returned home.

Did you know Bush-Stone curlews are territorial, so its best to return them to exactly where they came from if possible.

Stretch is growing really fast! He is a Honeyeater, however im unsure of what type just yet.

Im an Independent, Licenced Wildlife Carer. Happy to collect any injured, displaced, or orphaned wildlife in the Cassowary Coast region, 24/7. I care for all native animals, from Wallabies, to the tiniest bird.

I work in conjunction with a Wildlife Organization, as well as with other Independent carers, so rest assured EVERY animal will be looked after.
