I don’t normally work with puppies as they don’t have behavioural issues that have developed over time however, it’s not always about the dog, many times it’s about the owners.
Teaching owners how to develop their puppies into well behaved and social dogs from the beginning prevents bad behaviour from emerging.
Unfortunately most people don’t appropriately train their puppies and when issues arise many give up and there dogs are surrendered to shelters.
A dog is a huge responsibility and a puppy is even more so.

We had a wonderful day at the C.A.R.A Dog Rescue over the weekend. I was thankfully invited to speak and pass on some information to the crowd.
Fantastic people with a common goal who raised an awesome $18,000 to support the dogs those that foster them.
I’m sure this is the first of many events.
Thanks to Alison and Tottie for doing and amazing job.

Stop giving you dog tennis balls!!!!!
Did you know that the glue used on the green material is toxic to dogs??? This can cause serious health problems and should be avoided.
There are plenty of other ball options.

Training a fearful Cane Corso who wanted to rip me apart 1 hour before this image came S was I love.
Titan is a beautiful boy who has a bad history and is reactive to men, especially those with beards. But showing him what is expected while keeping him safe and being patient pays off.
A few more sessions and he will be a great companion dog.

Does your dog bark and rush to the front door when someone knocks or the door bell is rung?
Well let me tell you it can be fixed. Desensitising your dog to the sound by recording the noise and playing it regularly while remaining calm is the basis of overcoming this reactivity.
Doing this in conjunction with sending your pooch to their”place” when the sound is heard will give them a job and create a wanted behaviour.

The reasons Dogs drag their butts across the floor is because their a**l glands require to be drained. Normally a dog can do this naturally but when the dragging occurs it is because it hasn’t drained naturally and has become irritated.
Take your dog to the Vet for an easy process of draining the glands and your pup won’t like it but will feel much better after a couple of minutes. If you are really game then ask your Vet how to do it yourself. You will save the expense of the Vet visit but as it’s not the nicest thing to do 😎.

This is an Italian Spinone. An incredible breed. I met him today at the Melbourne Dog Festival which is running through the weekend.

This is an American XL Bully. As with all dogs they are beautiful. Some people react to them in fear because of there appearance but it is unwarranted. There are no bad dogs!!!! Just bad owners.
The UK is currently having this breed banned and Australia is looking at this also.
If scary looking things were banned then I’d be in trouble lol.
Being a responsible owner and ensuring your dog is trained well and trained specifically for their breed is so important.
Fools in government who have no understanding are dangerous and need to be educated.

Dogs of the week.
All the dogs I work with I literally fall in love with regardless of their individual issues.
All their owners do the best they can but most people just don’t know or understand what is required to modify unwanted behaviours.
That’s where I step in.

Socialising your dog from an early age is important as long as it is done correctly.
Understanding body language is equally as important when you have unknown dogs around yours such as in dog parks. Learning the skills guns can prevent serious injuries.

It’s been such a busy period with all of these beautiful pooches.
Their issues have ranged from anxiety, reactivity, aggression, fear, jumping and so much more.
I’m happy to say they are all much happier and settled and either have or are becoming the best pups they can be.

Dogs have the ability to learn very quickly. Repetition is the key and patience. However, knowing how to teach your dog can be complex for some and uncertainty that can make the process take much longer and frustration may kick in. This is why you need the right Behaviourist to assist you in helping you learn the techniques.
Remember, its generally you and not the dog!

Dogs of the week. Here we have Bear (Golden Retriever) Alfie (Groodle) Buddy (Schnauzer) and Blue (Staffy). These beautiful pooches have issues ranging from reactivity, resource guarding, no recall and anxiety.
All of these dogs have been responding well to behaviour modification but where the problems lay are with having their training maintained at home.
I supply the skills but it’s up to the owners to keep the training going for success.
I always make follow up sessions at no charge to make sure all is going well.
Loving your dogs means training your dog and training means keeping them safe.
