Health check for this life-saving Eastern Brown Snake!

This beautiful brown snake had a quick health check with Dr. Matt from Maroochydore Rd Vet Surgery before being sent down south to be a part of the life-saving antivenom program.

The production of antivenom is so important in this day and age, with lots of pets and people coming into conflict with venomous snakes each year and requiring antivenom to save their lives.

Only certain individual snakes are selected for this program each year. This is all done under Government issued permits.

Caring for wildlife is an essential part of our daily work.

At our clinic, we not only have the joy of looking after your beloved pets, but as veterinary professionals, we are also committed to caring for injured and sick wildlife.

Today, we had a small seabird, a crested tern, brought in with a fishing hook and line caught around its bill and mouth.

With great care, our veterinarian, Dr. Tyla, anaesthetised the tern and successfully removed the hook and line.

We will be sending the tern to Australia Zoo for ongoing care until it is deemed well enough to be released back into the wild.

Inspire the Future: Teach Kids to Love Animals!

Today's children are tomorrow's animal advocates and veterinary professionals. By nurturing their love for animals, we can inspire a future generation dedicated to animal care and welfare.

How You Can Help:
1. Encourage Compassion - Teach kids to respect and care for animals.
2. Explore Together - Visit local shelters, farms, and zoos to learn about different animals.
3. Support Learning - Provide books, documentaries, and educational activities about animal care.
4. Get Involved - Encourage participation in school programs, clubs, and community events focused on animals.

By fostering a love for animals, we can pave the way for many future veterinarians, animal scientists, and advocates. Let's empower our kids to create a kinder, more compassionate world for all living creatures!

Saying farewell to our beloved pets is one of the most challenging and heart-wrenching experiences we face as pet owners. The weight of making the decision to let go is as heavy as the love we hold for our furry companions.

As veterinarians, we encounter end-of-life decisions regularly, each one a touching reminder of the bond we share with our pets. While the emotional toll can be significant, there's a profound sense of fulfilment in supporting pet owners through these tough choices, and guiding them through the journey of saying goodbye. I find solace in helping them recognise the joy and happiness that their pet brought into their lives, despite the pain of parting ways. Though it may be a difficult path to walk, I believe that by honouring the memories and celebrating the love shared with our pets, we can find a sense of peace amidst the sorrow.

Today, I experienced this personally, as our family had to farewell our beautiful beagle, Holly. Her health had rapidly declined, and we were confronted with the harsh reality of aggressive cancer. Making the decision to let her go was agonising.

But amidst the sorrow, there was comfort in knowing that Holly was surrounded by the love of her family. As we said our goodbyes, she felt the warmth of our embrace and the depth of our affection. Though her physical presence may be gone, her memory will forever remain etched in our hearts.

Today, we honoured Holly's spirit, celebrating the joy she brought into our lives and the countless cherished memories we shared together. In her absence, we will find comfort in the love and companionship she so generously bestowed upon us. Goodbye, sweet Holly. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

Did you know that our furry friends can be heroes too?

Introducing Bilbo, who is owned by Dr Tyla. Bilbo visited the clinic today to donate valuable blood for another patient with life threatening anaemia.

Just like humans, dogs sometimes need blood transfusions in emergencies or during surgeries. That's why dog blood donors are so crucial!

If your pooch is healthy, between 1-7 years old, and weighs over 25kg, they might be eligible to donate blood and save lives.

Contact your local veterinary clinic to see if your canine companion can become a lifesaver. Let's spread the word and make a difference together! 🐾❤️

Thanks Bilbo - you are a Hero!
