Playstands can benefit many different species giving them interaction with other birds as well as space if they feel nervous.
It's also great for them to have somewhere acceptable to toilet that isn't you or your furniture!

This stand is made for an ekkie and an Alexandrine. Made with lockable wheels and a home made cargo net, I hope they have many hours of fun on it!!

Time for another interesting one.

This is Inkw**d, it is highly toxic to us and pets. But apparently safe for birds 🤔

It is an invasive w**d and some species of the Phytolacca family are high on the destroy list while others are ok to leave.

It used to be used to make dye, as the berries stain red. In America it is claimed if you prepare it right then it is edible but was also had medicinal purposes.

Apparently it is not toxic for birds but honestly would you wanna to risk it and try it?

Lilly pilly!!

Bush Tucker! And one the most ready available in the Ku Ring G*i area!!

It could in a huge variety of shapes, sizes and colours!

The birds love it. Especially the seeds. Its an Aussie Native so unfortunately will be really lucky to find it anywhere else in the world.

You can find the berries in hot pink, white, red, different shades of purple, i think blue as well! Even orange and so on.

We have an overflow of it at the moment. But it is a plant commonly used for hedges as its an ever green.
The flowers are small white or pink usually and very fluffy.

An absolute favourite!!

Now that the storms have passed and its time for clean up. There is loads of opportunities to give new stuff to our birds, but you need to remember that not everything is safe.

Just because it has berries on it doe not mean it is safe, or even flowers!
So make sure to ID the plants correctly before putting it in the cages or aviaries!!

Perfect example is the Privet plant, no part of privet is safe!
But eucalyptus and gumnuts are very safe.

Today onwards as ill clean up the yard and cages, ill post up different things in my own yard that is and isn't safe..

Yucca is another great safe tree!!

They are hardy and the root is edible for us. But it must be cooked to be safe! They are drought tolerant also!

But be careful the leaves, they are swordlike and extremely sharp. You need to be wearing thick gloves to avoid bleeding all over the place

Eucalyptus Trees,

Next on the list of safe trees and plants!

There is no part that isn't safe for birds. We tend to use a lot of eucalyptus branches on our playstands. As they are great type of wood and come in all different thickness, with and without bark, different colours and we have even managed to find some that twists in really cool ways. (Works great as intricate swings!!)

Flowers are loved and a staple for wild lorikeets and absolutely perfect to give to our parrots.
The gumnuts or as some know them as the gum fruits, are amazing addition to enrichment and foraging!!
They come in all different shapes and sizes and again natural food for the wild cockatoos and other birds.

We can provide some large and small sized gumnuts if asked ❤️

Safe Trees and Plants

Every couple days, will start posting up safe branches, trees, flowers etc

First up: an easy one! Bottlebrush (Callistemon spp.)

Every part of the bottlebrush trees are safe!

There is about 50 odd species and a variety of colours.
The branches are rough to the touch and are great to help keep beaks busy and claws duller.
The flowers are a great addition for lorikeets, and a natural source of food for the wild ones.

This client prefers a more organic product so textured bark and no toys and a climbing rope. It's intended for many sized birds!

I made this cage top stand for my new cage. The cage will house guest birds who are holidaying here thanks to Yoshi’s feathered retreat . The first occupant in the cage is an eclectus. The stand is primarily to give them somewhere to land and hang out. I used the bowls that came with the cage top. I didn't like the play top it came with.

I could make something like this for you too.

Also, knocked up some perches for inside the cage.

This is my Amazon, Spartacus showering on the custom made perch. No suction cups. I made this so it would suit the taps and have no fear of it falling while he was on it. From $40, I come to your house and make it there!

Renovated this playstand. The first was originally for small birds like conures and the renovation allows medium birds to also enjoy it. Reused some branches and added some too. I hope Wingspan Bird Gardens have many hrs of fun with it!

This is my Meyer. On Saturday, she needed 4 stitches after landing badly (clipped right now). Thanks to Bird Gardens, who raised her, her upbringing made giving her medicine, very easy!!
