CRATE TRAINING - DAY 01
Sasha is a scared pup. I started feeding her inside the crate to build her confidence. Always throwing yumi treats inside so she associates that the crate is an awesome place. She was still unsure, but eventually she went inside.

Potty training is all about US, its all about structure. Puppies will pee/poo roughly 15 min after waking up, playing, eating and drinking.
If you time it right, you can guide the dog to the spot.

Today we worked in marker(clicker) acquisition and my dad learned a lot about puppy socialisation and habituation as well as some luring homework.

Im working with a separation anxiety case at the moment and this is exactly what I told my client.
We are heavily working on the “place” command and increasing distance.

🐾🐾🐾 Does your dog follow you around the home?
Most all of us would answer “Of course, she loves me! She even wants to come in the bathroom with me…” (cue self-conscious laughter.)

But what most don’t realize, is that allowing your dog to follow you around the house constantly; can easily foster separation anxiety.

The Pandemic has contributed to an epidemic of anxious & overly dependent dogs.

Working at home has been a boon - and also bit of a curse for our dogs’ development.

To be mentally healthy & confident, our dogs need daily practice being separate from us.

What’s the cure?

First, acknowledge the importance of breaking this cycle.

Start telling your dog to “Stay” when you leave a room momentarily. Come back after a few moments and praise the dog calmly for staying put.

Use your crate for separation - and enforced rest time. Work up to an hour, twice a day…. when you are home! (Not just when you leave the house.)

Going upstairs to grab something? Tell your dog to stay downstairs while you go. They’ll be practicing their Stay command, their impulse control, and exercising their separation skills - all at once!

Take the time to prepare your dog for being alone. It’s a skill every dog must learn to live comfortably with us in our homes.
