Do you have Dog Envy?

Dog owners with 'naughty' or difficult dogs often feel envious when they see other people's dogs that are so well behaved (ie. A dog that sits quietly at a cafe by the owner's feet, calmly walking next to the owner on walks, or a calm and friendly dog that interacts with other dogs or people without getting hyper-excited and lose their mind). Their inner voice says "How come my dog can't be like that?". Well the answer is " yes, they CAN be like that". And it's not about whether you're good at dog training or not, or the 1 hr here or there that you train your dog to do tricks. It's no different to raising children. A really good parent with exceptional kids, aren't great parents just some of the time. They have great kids because their day to day interaction with their kids is great. Your dog's behaviour is the product of your daily interactions with them. Generally speaking (let's take out specific breed needs, diet, medical conditions etc), they are the way they are because of:
1) what you've taught them (intentionally and unintentionally)
2) what you've allowed them to do and rehearse over and over again
3) the exceptions you've continued to give around rules and boundaries you set/ havent set.

So have a look at your daily interactions with your dog. If you want to be a great fur-parent, evaluate the above 3 things in your daily interactions with them. It works on kids too😉.

RIP Goliath
1.9.1998-21.2.2024

I woke up this morning and the world was different. It’s a little emptier, lonelier and less brighter since Goliath galloped across the rainbow bridge yesterday. He was larger than life, in stature and personality. He was with me for 25 years. His significance in my life was the way he shaped me as a person, more than any human has. We rescued each other from our angry past. Although his first year of life was a mystery, almost 15 years later after a chance discovery in looking up his ID branding on his neck on the Registry of Harness Racers, I discovered that his race name was “Me An Mick” (Mick is my nickname), so he was always destined to be with me. He had a great life, grazing and napping in the sun and doing whatever the hell he wanted to do. He was a cruisy happy horse, who answered to his name, and knew how to reduce anxiety in the most anxious of people. I’m glad I was able to tell him how much I love him at the end, but he took with him the last part of my heart that I could possibly give away. Rest in peace Goliath, and for the last time I say to you “You are such a good boy”.

One of the most common questions people ask me is "What should I feed my dog?" So let me share my answer. Keep things as natural as possible, something that's scientifically balanced and something that's formulated for shiny coats, healthy digestion and longer life. I love Lyka. It's made with love, it's natural and so good for your dog. I also love the Brand and their story. That's why I've partnered with Lyka. I had the privilege of being in this little lady's life for the last 4 years. I'll always remember how Bella greeted me with her little 'screams' and was so happy to see me. She crossed the rainbow bridge today, and left her little paw prints on my heart forever. Although she was a client, I had a bond with her like she was my own. So heart broken and I cried like hell. Rest in peace Bell Bell💕
