SPACE CADETS - 9 days old.

Photo dump time!

These babies are thriving, and Lacey is an amazing mother! She is so attentive and calm.

NOVA - there is only one word I can use to describe her, and that is “WOMBAT”. She has gained 150% in 9 days. As the photos show, her nose break is amazing, and she has the cheeks to match (can’t see in the nose break pic because I’ve slightly scuffed her)

COMET - this little boy is always yawning or sucking on his sisters’ ears. Talking about ears, his little ears are starting to change colour and get their blue tinge. His nose break is lovely, but is not as good as the girls.

FLARE - the dainty lass is growing well, almost doubling her weight. She was the big one when born, but she’s taken her time in the growing stage. But double is certainly great for 9 days! Her nose break is pretty amazing too. Nova and Flare keep alternating between the better break, so it will be interesting to see them develop.

The final pics show just how big the Wombat is.

🏆Best Entire Kitten in show - Aslan.
🌟🏆Reserve Supreme Exhibit🏆🌟

This my highest awarded cat, ever! And from a cat I bred myself. 🥰 while he is a naked 11 week old kitten, all the judges have been Devon breeders in the past and recognised the kittens were all fully coated (just molted out) and that curl was there in the tail and legs, if not the body 🤣

I’m feeling very full of heart today about my cats. While my breeding program may be slow and already had a couple of set backs, this has confirmed I have a good eye and understanding of my pairings.

Starseed Devon Rex, thank you again for entrusting me with Boo and Captain to start my program. I feel truly blessed.

Book Babies - 11 weeks, 2 days.

These two little monkeys are my shy two this litter. They tolerate a lot of things, but they also like to scuttle when they are a little unsure.

But we have had some breakthroughs the last couple of days and I am so happy!

Lizzy has been playing with me on her own terms. Tonight she was gnawing on my finger and being very cheeky.

Then, Aslan let me rub his tummy and chose to sleep on my bed with actual cuddles involved.

They are about 2 weeks behind Scout and how she developed. She now sleeps on my bed and comes for cuddles. So these two are tracking so well.

All of the babies have hit the 10 week nakey-nakey stage. Aslan feels like sandpaper, and the others feel like flocking or velvet.

The Book Babies - the boys. 11 weeks!

They are so big!

Aslan does not like to sit still for the camera. (Which is why this is not his best look!)

Artie wants to make sure you get his good side. (Artie is in a league of his own).

Introducing Lacey’s “Space Babies”

NOVA - Blue Girl
COMET - (Blue) Mink Boy
FLARE - Blue (and white?) Girl

Lacey is being an amazing mother. All I can hear is her purring from her with her babies. They made her work hard in labour and now I know why she looked like a whale. Each baby was over 100gm at birth! And they have already gained in less than 12 hours.

I cannot wait to see these babies grow.

This is Lacey’s first litter and she was paired with our beautiful Captain. We cannot wait to see what this pairing brings.

Prospective owners are asked to fill out the questionnaire on our website.

Wanting something a bit bigger than a Devon Rex? Why not a Norwegian Forest Cat? Bushkenheim Norwegian Forest cats have some beautiful kittens available. And you too could have a dog in cat’s clothing. 🤣

The result of brown tabby to brown tabby matings lol
Now if they can just select their new owners that would be great 😁😁

The Book Babies - 9 weeks something.

The babies are about to hit their 10 week mark this week, and they now all have their homes allocated.

Did you know that I don’t let new owners actively say “I want that kitten!” And just send that cat to them?

I actually choose the kitten that best suits the lifestyle of the intended family. Of course I want to hear which kitten they are interested in the most, but if they are after a kitten that snuggles all day, and loves to be carried like a baby, then I do a disservice to the kitten and the family if the one they like the look of is a kitten that hates being picked up, and would prefer to climb the curtains.

These kittens are part of my family and I want them to be integral in your family. I want my pet owners to trust that I know my kittens best.

So, back to the girls. These two are destined to live luxurious lives as pets, while the boys are both to be stud cats.

Scout is going to central NSW to live with three other cats. She’s slowly getting into her snugglepuss era, but she’s also the kitten in my house who can hold her own in play against the bigger cats. A skill that will be needed when your new sibling is a Maine C**n.

She will be getting a new name, which will be announced soon. (Any guesses? Hint: It’s Disney themed)

Lizzy is going to be a super special kitty - a companion to a small human with Autism. My own young human had Autism as well, and so we understand the type of cats that are suitable for life with these special families. We also have friends with little humans spend some time socialising with them and getting them used to different handling - including being squeezed with love.

Because Lizzy is going to be so close, we are taking the opportunity to visit the little human to build up the relationship. I’m also hoping to create a social story for the family, to prepare the little one for their new companion to come into their home.

Lizzy is able to be flipped upside down onto her back, and loved on hard, without freaking out. A skill very helpful in Autistic households.

What do you think of these processes? Would this turn you off a breeder if you could. It choose the kitten you want? Or would this help you build trust with a breeder to know the kitten is right for your circumstances? I’d really love to know your thoughts.

I am feeling lost for time. Lacey is due any time, from now-ish…. And I am still not decided on her theme!

I have locked all the other cats in the cat room, and she is off her rocks doing zoomies around the house.

And i just realised now, when I went to set up her birth tent, it’s outside in the rain.

But the tub is inside, and the camera will be ready, and tomorrow I’ll set up the tent after I dry it off.

Tomorrow morning, Monday morning or evening, or after midday on Tuesday are all good times for me.

Which means she is destined to give birth when I am not here.

So tell me….

When do you think she will give birth?

How many will she have?

And what should her theme be?

Photo taken just now, after a good meal 🤣.

The Book Babies - 9 weeks!

One thing I love doing with my kittens is crate training!

It’s a little bit different with the kittens, but the idea is the same: get them used to the carrier so that they feel safe and happy any time they need to be transported or confined.

To do this, I have a travel crate on my couch and the cage door is left open. The kittens and other cats are free to come and go as they please.

Since my other cats are already crate trained, they are willingly sleeping in there, and since the kittens want to be with the big cats, they are happily sleeping and playing in there too.

Today Boo, Skekie and four kittens were asleep in there. Seeing them all emerge was like watching clowns exit a morris minor.

The Book Babies made it to their first vet appointment!

8 weeks and 5 days old.
Vaccinated, Wormed, Microchipped.
Clean bill of health for all.
Not a peep was made (except for Aslan - but we will pretend he was roaring).

Book Babies - 7 weeks 4 Days

Keeping up with the lunatics is difficult. They are everywhere and nowhere all at once. D’Artagnan likes to bite toes, or sleep on them at will. Lizzie chooses the craziest places to sleep - like hanging off the cat tower. Scout has developed her mother’s love of shoes, and Aslan is camouflage on legs, always hiding in plain sight.

They Babies and Boo came with me on NYE and spent the night being cuddled and exposed to people, and sounds and noise that they normally wouldn’t be. They were “adopted” but guests who looked after them all night.

Scout and Aslan were scooped up by the teen boys who proceeded to rate their kittens in a competition against each other. scout won because Aslan is currently almost bald.

Lizzie had a young lass who discovered what a true pirate cat is - by nesting in her hair/neck/shoulders at all times.

And Artie was shuffled between everyone else because his single brain cell could not care who was holding him as long as he could nap.

Speaking of his single brain cell… he managed to cry out when I picked him up the other night, and instead of his mother, his big sister came to his rescue. And tried to nurse him as comfort. He tried. He tried for a long time. But no milk was ever going to come! Haha.

Book Babies

Lizzy - 6 weeks, 3 days

Happy Festivus dear followers!

It has been a quiet, but busy couple of weeks here and I am sadly behind on my updates.

The babies are growing like tiny weeds, and they are becoming more and more mischievous. They are in a roofless enclosure and at least once a day I will have an escapee - sometimes helped by their mother, who has been known to take a baby under my bed because she needed to rearrange.

Baby Lizzy here was giving my brain a tickle on what colour she technically was. After conferring with a couple of wiser breeders, we have concluded she is a Black Silver Classic Tabby. And I am so thrilled. Black Silver Classics are a bit of a favourite and she is so adorable!

Book Babies 5 weeks, 4 days.
D’Artangan Featuring an OG - Dullahan (Now Darcie)

Sorry for the lack of updates, it has been crazy here with the end of school, looking after babies, rearranging my house… in fact crazy may be an understatement.

The little rascals believe that Mama’s milk should be the only food they consume, and are a bit slow to realise that what I offer in the bowl is like a take away coffee versus the espresso you make at home. Both equally good, but there is something special about “eating out” rather than at mum’s kitchen.

We have had words, and now Scout, Artie, and Lizzy are regularly partaking at the bistro, while Aslan is taking his time.

Today Lizzy even had a bit of a chomp on some real food. Soon they will all be eating me out of house and home!

As you can see by the photo, Darcie (Dullahan first litter) and Artie (D’Artagnan) look VERY similar. However, Artie is a lot more laid back than his big brother. Takes after his papa and has limited brain cells. (It is also why he’s always looking half asleep - because he IS always half asleep!)

All things going well, Artie will be heading over to Pixie Tails Devon Rex to live with his big brother as a future Stud in their breeding program.

In other news, Lacey is pregnant and due in a month. For those who are on the waiting list, if you would prefer to wait for one of her babies, just let me know. I currently have 3 kittens in Boo’s litter and 6 people with their hands up.

Lacey’s litter will be homed after Easter Sunday.
