Puppies and kids....we recently added a new puppy to our family and it had me reflecting on past introductions of our dogs to our kids. Namely, when we introduced our oldest (3 years old) girl Stella to my daughters. My youngest 2 were absolutely terrified of her! They wouldn’t come downstairs if the puppy was in the lounge room free roaming. U wouldn’t think it now when u see them with her or with the other 2 that have since been introduced. They are right in there, cleaning crates, feeding, toileting and always mucking around with them. Too many puppies are surrendered back to breeders or sold on coz “they’re hard work” or “my child hasn’t adjusted”. It does take work, not a great deal in my experience but yes it is work. For us it was having the puppy on a leash inside whilst the girls were around, then slowly having the girls hold the leash, then puppy off leash whilst they were on the lounge and out of reach and before we knew it, they loved her. And they still do. It was a good reminder for us here at catalyst bullies that once upon a time, we were all first time bulldog owners and a chance for us to reflect on what to offer in support and advice for our future puppy families. Happy puppy loving everyone 😉🐶
