✨Happy Veterinary Receptionists Week!✨

This week we celebrate these 2 wonderful women, Kerry and Vanessa!

From the warm greetings on the phone, to the comforting words during tough moments, they are the first friendly faces you see and the voices that keep our day running smoothly.

Whether they’re scheduling appointments, answering questions, or offering reassurance to worried pet parents, they do it all with compassion, patience, and a smile.

These lovely ladies are our rocks, and they always manage to put a smile on our faces when we’re having a difficult day.

Thank you for being the heart of our clinic, we couldn’t do it without you!

With love, from all of your family at Asquith Vet! ❤️

🐇Meet Phoebe, the Flemish Giant!🐇

💉Phoebe was seen today by Dr Lisa for her 6-monthly check up and vaccination! Yes, even the Easter Bunny needs her regular check ups!
Phoebe’s here to give you your annual Easter chocolate toxicity reminder!

🍫As we celebrate Easter this long weekend, many of us will be celebrating with chocolate treats and hot cross buns. But did you know these are both highly toxic for our fur-babies?

Many of our pets, especially cats and dogs can become quite sick from ingesting even the smallest amounts of chocolate, especially dark chocolate or baking chocolate, which contains a higher levels of theobromine—a substance toxic to pets.

Hot cross buns are also highly toxic for our pets as most of them have chocolate, raisins, and sultanas in them.

🍫The signs/symptoms of chocolate, raisin, or sultana ingestion can range from mild to severe and include:
* Increased heart rate
* Vomiting and/or diarrhoea
* Restlessness or hyperactivity
* Tremors or seizures
* Rapid breathing
* In severe cases, it can be fatal

🐾How to keep your fur-babies safe this Easter?
* Keep hot cross buns, chocolate Easter eggs, bunnies, and other chocolate treats out of reach of your pets
* If your pet does ingest chocolate, contact your vet immediately, even if symptoms aren’t obvious
* Watch out for common Easter treats like chocolate bunnies, truffles, and candies with chocolate coatings—these can also be dangerous!
* This also goes for Hot Cross Buns, as they can have chocolate, raisins, or sultanas in them these are also highly toxic for our pets!

🏥For any emergencies while we’re closed over Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, please contact Northside Emergency Vets Specialists (NEVS) on (02) 9452 2933.

🐣From all the team at Asquith Veterinary Hospital and from Phoebe the Easter Bunny, we wish you a Happy and safe Easter!🐣

🐈‍⬛Patient of the Day🐈‍⬛

Say ‘Hello’ to Blossom!
Blossom is a 4 month old British Shorthair kitten that came in today for her desexing procedure!

British Shorthairs are known to be sweet and affectionate, and Blossom definitely showed us that today.
She was such a brave girl, and received lots of cuddles after her surgery!

We can’t wait to see her back for her post-desex check up!

🐾Say ‘Hello’ to Sylvie!🐾
Sylvie is a very sweet 8 month old German Shepherd!

German Shepherds are known to be loyal, intelligent, and they make great pets for many families.
They love a good cuddle, and Sylvie loved her belly scratches!

Sylvie has been experiencing some itchy skin these past few weeks, but after seeing our vet Dr Aleshia, she’s on her way back to feeling 100%!

⁉️Did you know!⁉️
German Shepherds originated in Germany back in 1899, and were traditionally bred as herding dogs!

Fast forward to present day, German Shepherds are commonly used in police work, disability assistance, and search-and-rescue. However, they’re most commonly found to be companion dogs!

Sylvie was a very good girl for her appointment with Dr Aleshia, and we can’t wait to see her back for her next check up!

🦎Welcome to Wildlife Wednesdays!🦎

Say hello to Buddha!

This little Ringtail Possum was brought in to us this morning by a lovely member of the public who was concerned for this sweet man’s wellbeing.

🩺After a check over with Dr Christina, this little guy was given the all-clear and was handed over to a WIRES carer to continue looking after him!🩺

⁉️Did you know? The tail of the Ringtail Possum is called a Prehensile tail, meaning that it can grasp objects and acts as an extra limb! They often use their tails to help with their balance and to carry nesting materials.⁉️

🐾We enjoyed our cuddle time with Buddha today, but now he’s off to grow in the care of our lovely Wildlife volunteers!🐾

Valentine’s Day with your pet!

❤️Love is in the air, but so are some hidden hazards for our furry friends!
Celebrate safely this Valentine’s Day by ensuring your special treats don’t turn into an unexpected trip to the vet!

🍫While we all enjoy a chocolate treat on Valentine’s Day, chocolate is a big NO-NO for our fur babies! The darker the chocolate, the more dangerous it is.

💐As beautiful as they are, unfortunately many Valentine’s Day bouquets include flowers that are toxic for both cats and dogs. Many contain lilies, which are EXTREMELY toxic to cats and dogs. Even a small exposure—such as licking pollen off their fur—can cause damage.
Some more of these flowers include:
- Baby’s Breath
- Chrysanthemums
- Daffodils
- Hyacinth
- Hydrangeas
- Tulips
💐Some pet-safe alternatives for flowers include:
- Roses, while these are a classic and are non-toxic to our pets, always be wary of the thorns!
- Orchids
- Sunflowers
- Magnolias

🚨If your pet has ingested something toxic, take them to the closest vet immediately for treatment.

❤️Comment below with pictures of your pets all loved up today!❤️

🐾 Meet Abby! 🐾

This sweet little lady visited us today for her desexing procedure and stole our hearts in the process!

🐶 Abby is a Mini Fox Terrier cross! 🐶
Miniature Fox Terriers may be small, but they have huge personalities! They are energetic, affectionate, confident, and playful.

🚀 True to her breed, Abby is a sweet, confident, and playful little pocket rocket! 🚀

🕶️ After her surgery, she wore her special safety Doggles while receiving post-operative laser therapy. This gentle, non-invasive treatment helps reduce swelling, promote blood flow to the surgical site, and speed up the healing process.

✨ Did you know? ✨
We provide laser therapy for all our desexing patients as part of their recovery. This extra care ensures a more comfortable healing process with less inflammation and pain.

❤️ Abby was an absolute delight and enjoyed plenty of cuddles from our nurses today! ❤️

We can't wait to see her for her post-op check-up!

This gives us time to prepare your prescription, and if we don’t have it available, we can get it ordered for you ahead of time — so you won’t have to worry about running out!

Please note that certain medications, especially those from compounding pharmacies, may take up to 7 days to arrive.
By providing us with ample notice, we can reduce any stress or inconvenience for you and your pet.

🌡️ Heat Alert: Stay Safe in 41°C Weather!

🐾 With the temperature soaring today, it’s crucial to protect your furry friends. Here’s how to keep them safe:

💧 Hydration and Shade: Ensure pets have access to fresh water and a cool, shady spot.
🚫 Limit Exercise: Walk pets early in the morning or late evening. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them!
🚗 Never Leave Pets in Cars: Temperatures inside cars can skyrocket in minutes, leading to fatal heatstroke.
🥵 Watch for Heat Stroke Signs: Symptoms include panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, rapid heart rate, bright red gums, weakness, or seizures.

💡 Emergency Response: If you suspect heat stroke, act quickly!
1️⃣ Move your pet to a cool area.
2️⃣ Use cool (not cold) water on their body.
3️⃣ Seek immediate veterinary help.

🐈Do you know what your cat is trying to tell you?🐈

Cats are known for keeping you on your toes! One minute they’re curled up in your lap purring, and the next they want nothing more than to be left alone in a cozy box.

They’re very good at expressing their emotions, if you know what to look for!

Do you know what your cat is trying to tell you?

This national Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day we ask: How well can you read your cat?

With rain and potential storms forecasted over the next 7 days, here are some tips to keep your pet calm:
