🐇Meet Phoebe, the Flemish Giant!🐇
💉Phoebe was seen today by Dr Lisa for her 6-monthly check up and vaccination! Yes, even the Easter Bunny needs her regular check ups!
Phoebe’s here to give you your annual Easter chocolate toxicity reminder!
🍫As we celebrate Easter this long weekend, many of us will be celebrating with chocolate treats and hot cross buns. But did you know these are both highly toxic for our fur-babies?
Many of our pets, especially cats and dogs can become quite sick from ingesting even the smallest amounts of chocolate, especially dark chocolate or baking chocolate, which contains a higher levels of theobromine—a substance toxic to pets.
Hot cross buns are also highly toxic for our pets as most of them have chocolate, raisins, and sultanas in them.
🍫The signs/symptoms of chocolate, raisin, or sultana ingestion can range from mild to severe and include:
* Increased heart rate
* Vomiting and/or diarrhoea
* Restlessness or hyperactivity
* Tremors or seizures
* Rapid breathing
* In severe cases, it can be fatal
🐾How to keep your fur-babies safe this Easter?
* Keep hot cross buns, chocolate Easter eggs, bunnies, and other chocolate treats out of reach of your pets
* If your pet does ingest chocolate, contact your vet immediately, even if symptoms aren’t obvious
* Watch out for common Easter treats like chocolate bunnies, truffles, and candies with chocolate coatings—these can also be dangerous!
* This also goes for Hot Cross Buns, as they can have chocolate, raisins, or sultanas in them these are also highly toxic for our pets!
