I’ve been a little busy of late working on something in the background (pun intended). I’ve started producing backgrounds for everyone to enjoy! My habitat background photos that I use in my own enclosures have been incredibly popular according to my inbox and feedback across all my social media accounts so I decided to create a way people can easily enjoy what I enjoy. The website is now live and I’ve created a seperate Instagram account for the @from_bush_to_box backgrounds. (Work in progress) These backings are a near instant result that’s super easy to clean and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. They are made for all sorts of keepers in mind from the #bioactive nut and the more sterile keeper. Soon I’ll produce a comprehensive installation video however I have made these videos in the past such as the video for my Spinifex Hopping Mice enclosure. I am starting small but I have big plans in mind with these backgrounds and the stock/sizes/images that are available is but a taste of what’s to come. I’ve finally finished some extra rocks for the #kimberleyrockmonitor #enclosure These extra pieces certainly add some much needed different hiding places for her to hang out in. @laj_wildlife gave me the idea to incorporate a vertical crack/hide and it’ll be interesting to see if she uses it. So tonight, just before the lights went out, I caught an interesting behaviour with my Kimberley rock monitor. The heat lights had shut off an hour or so earlier and she came out to soak up the left over heat from the top of her outcrop. I’ve not seen her do this before but it was awesome to witness! I decided it was a good time to catch her a little unawares and give her a quick check over. How we came to be..

Believe it or not, but Dani and I started at the other end of the food chain breeding rodents for pets. We did this for a few years before we had an unexpected visitor to our unit, a young Asian House Gecko. Now we were none the wiser to their non-endemic presence and kept him for a few weeks in a make shift enclosure.

After a few weeks the little gecko had managed to escape, but the urge for more reptiles had already began. From this moment we sorted out our keepers licence and started on the quest to collect more gecko species.

Fast forward some years and we have owned close to 45 species and bred at least half of them.

Nowadays however we have a different approach to keeping our animals. Instead of having ridiculously high numbers of individuals, we have narrowed our focus down to less animals and better quality keeping.
