NSW has seen a significant rise in calls for snake bites, with weather and habitat destruction believed to be contributing factors.

The NSW Poisons Information Centre has received 320 calls for suspected or confirmed snake bites between September 1 and December 20 last year.

This is a 35 per cent increase over the number of calls during the same time period in 2023.

There were 61 bites in children under the age of 15.

Genevieve Adamo, a pharmacist and senior specialist in poisons information at the centre, said people needed to be cautious around snakes.

"We do want people to be aware of this, because with so many more snake bites happening, there's a greater risk that people will get bitten," she said.

A woman’s 'terrible' discovery on her laundry floor has sparked calls for a common household device to be banned across Australia. Photos supplied to Yahoo News show one of the nation’s most iconic animals literally glued to the floor by a controversial pest control device.

Professional reptile handler Chris Williams was called to an address in Sydney’s west on Tuesday after the homeowner explained in broken English she had a problem. Expecting to find a blue-tongue lizard locked in her laundry, he discovered something far more confronting next to her washing machine.

Experts say the dangerous items shouldn't be sold in Australia. Find out why.

Unlike Eastern Water Dragons, Eastern Bearded Dragons have struggled to adapt to suburban environments, and their populations have been steadily declining over the past few decades.

A notice in flood affected areas
We have noticed a few extra calls about snakes appearing in flood affected areas snakes are appearing in peoples yards.

These guys have unfortunately been pushed out of hibernation because of rising waters if you come across a snake please keep an eye on it and call a snake catcher ASAP

If you have pets and have seen a snake but have lost sight of it please keep pets indoors for at least 48-72 hours and toilet dogs on a lead which gives you control of your pet if it was to sniff the reptile out and call us if assistance is needed

Today we rehomed two eastern long neck turtles to Rosie’s Retreat a NDIS farm stay care respite centre in western Sydney.
These guys have had a pretty rough life with the people who we picked them up from rescuing them from a situation where they had been discarded in a rubbish bin by the previous owner.
Rhiannon our admin was contacted by the people who rescued them as there children had outgrown the fad of having pet turtles and they weren’t getting the love and attention needed.
We just know that the clients of Rosie’s retreat are all going to love there new additions and are so thankful they are in a happy a loving environment now.

Yes these are fully reptile licensed rehomes and we try an help rehome unwanted pet reptiles where we can as long as they are under the NSW reptile licence
