Dear Valued Clients,

We would like to inform you that, starting this Saturday, we will be closed on Saturdays for the foreseeable future. Our goal is to reopen on Saturdays once we have more veterinarians available to provide the high-quality care your pets deserve. We will keep you updated on any changes to our schedule.

This decision was made to ensure we continue delivering the best possible service to both our clients and patients while also safeguarding our staff's mental health and well-being. Preventing burnout is essential to maintaining the level of care you expect from us. We appreciate your understanding and support during this time.

Thank you for your continued trust in us.

Meet Thor 😻, the majestic Maine C**n!

This handsome fellow visited the clinic after jumping off the kitchen counter and couldn't bear weight on one of his hind legs. X-rays showed a fracture in the femoral head, requiring femoral head osteotomy (FHO) surgery.

During the FHO surgery, the vet removed the femoral head, leaving Thor’s hip socket empty. Initially, Thor’s leg muscles will hold the femur in place, and scar tissue will develop between the acetabulum and femur. Over time, a "false joint" will form, with the scar tissue cushioning between Thor’s bones. 🦴

Thor is now back home on strict rest orders and on the road to recovery. Sending him all the love and healing vibes! 🫶🐱

🌄 This weekend, the team at Coreen Avenue had an unforgettable bonding day at Bon Rean Highlands! We took part in a unique “pat and paint” session, where we got to pat and feed the animals before unleashing our creative sides with some painting. The weather was fantastic, despite a bit of wind, and the scenic highlands provided the perfect backdrop for our day.

From adorable highland cows to friendly donkeys, we had a blast getting up close and personal with the animals. The highlight of the day was definitely the warm and welcoming atmosphere, thanks to the amazing staff at Bon Rean Highlands who made sure we had everything we needed.

A huge thank you to for hosting us and making our team bonding day so special. We highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for a fun and engaging way to connect with their team. 🐾🎨

Little Miss Daisy 🌼

Daisy the Cavoodle had a visit to Dr. Michelle today because her owner noticed blood in her urine. After a thorough physical examination and analyzing Daisy’s urine sample, Dr. Michelle confirmed that Daisy had a urinary tract infection (UTI).

Dr. Michelle took a closer look at Daisy’s urine under the microscope, revealing the bacteria responsible for the infection, it was quite a sight to see! With this diagnosis, she prescribed a course of antibiotics to help rid the infection.

Despite the initial concern, Daisy handled the visit like a champ. She left the clinic with her tail wagging and a tummy full of treats, thanks to the loving care from Dr. Michelle and her team. Daisy is now on the road to recovery and will be back to her playful self in no time.

Here’s to Daisy’s speedy recovery and many more happy days ahead! 🌼 🐾

24/06/2024

Chickens have some pretty clever ways of beating the winter chill, but they may still need your help. Like all birds, chickens use their feathers for insulation by fluffing them up and trapping the air. But for the times when nature is hard to predict, good pet care involves providing appropriate refuge.

❄️Insulation❄️
In cold parts of Australia, you could insulate your chicken coop with tree branches, cardboard, or straw. Care should be taken if hay or straw is used for insulation, as these can become infested with mold and vermin and carry chicken parasites. Also, remember to keep the insulation tidy. Keeping the coop clean and dry is essential as most bacteria, fungi, and parasites thrive in warm, moist environments.

☀️Warmer climates☀️
If you live in one of the warmer Australian states then you probably won’t need to install insulation in your chicken coop at all. Open, ventilated coops are more important. Learn more tips on coop setup on our website, or alternatively, visit your local Greencross Vets for expert advice.

Roxy immediately made herself at home, exploring every nook and cranny with her curious little paws. The staff couldn’t help but swoon over her, and she loved every minute of the attention, basking in the affection like the true rockstar she is.

Thank you, Roxy, for brightening our day and reminding us just how special our furry (and not-so-furry) friends are. We can’t wait to have you visit again and continue sharing your rockstar vibes with us! ❤️🐾

Winter is here! We feel it's going to be a super cold one, and chances are if you are feeling cold your furry friend is too.

Here are some ways to keep your pet warm in the Winter:

💚Keep your pet inside
💚Provide a warm, soft, elevated bed
💚Warm coats are great for pets that are senior, small or have thin coats
💚Move your guinea pigs hutch inside the house or garage
💚Provide extra straw and hay so small pets can burrow and hide
💚Keep all bedding dry
💚Wrap a loose blanket over your pet, but don’t tuck them in. They still need to be able to move away from it if they overheat
💚Walk your furry friend during the day when it’s not as cold

Blue, the adorable 4-year-old female spayed staffy x, paid us a visit last month because of a little lump that popped up on her right front leg after a playful stroll.

When we checked, it was like a stubborn little surprise package, filled with inflammatory cells and bacteria under the microscope. We tried giving her some pain relief and antibiotics, but that lump just wouldn't budge. So, we decided to take a closer look under general anesthesia, and guess what we found? A tiny piece of stick snuggled in there! 😨

After a gentle removal and lots of tender care, Blue came back for her post-op check, and voila! Her wound had healed up perfectly, and she was back to being her usual cheeky, cuddly self!

🚨 Attention Pet Owners! 🚨

Emergency and Specialty Vets are sounding the alarm about the rise in paralysis ticks affecting our pets. 🐾 With the unseasonal warmth lingering into autumn and rain, the conditions are ripe for these dangerous pests.
At Animal Referral Hospital (ARH) Gosford, several beloved pets have tragically lost their lives due to severe tick paralysis. Dr. Natashia Evans, an Emergency and Critical Care Specialist at ARH Gosford, emphasises the importance of year-round parasite prevention, even as we transition into winter.

Skipping prevention can lead to devastating consequences.
Even a delay of just one or two days can put your pet at risk. Set reminders, and if in doubt, administer prevention a couple of days early.

Pet owners are urged to perform daily tick checks, as early detection can save lives.

For emergency assistance, contact your nearest animal hospital: https://www.emergencyvet.com.au/contact-us.html
