Field+Fin is a latest project of Daz Byrne. An urban farm and fire kitchen in Marrickville, it is an on the ground and larger version of the infamous Rooftop. The Rooftop is a private studio and home in Marrickville with a beautiful roof top garden full of food and aquaponics ponds. Below the rooftop gardens is the studio space and home of Daz Byr

ne. Both the Farm and Rooftop are located right in the heart of this vibrant suburb, where friends can come together and access some truly special experiences, meet new people, share stories, workshops and build community.

Friday nights we burn hot, to cook pizzas, and then we use the latent heat over the next couple of days to cook our breads, our slow cooked meats and dehydrate mushrooms and fruits. Come down and settle in to the gardens. Tonight from 6-8pm, we have $16 house cocktails! ❤️

Folks!
Tonight was amazing but we got slammed!
We are so sorry for all those that had to wait, we had double our bookings turn up, so it was pretty crazy to keep up, especially as we cook on fire and a lot of our food is slow cooked.
We will adjust and readjust and look at our booking system and see what we can change. Plus, as guests, remember to book so we know how much cook. (Ideally a day or two earlier)

Just a reminder folks, that the memberships and vouchers , created in sept 2023, for our crowd fund, ended at the end of last year. These were initially for a year but we continued until the end of 2024 and we have done our best to create events that honour these as much as possible. We are sorry if you weren’t able to come to one of our events or long table dinners to take advantage of these. Regardless, We love your support and hope to see you soon. ❤️❤️

Friday night is margarita night, it’s pizza night, it’s dancing in the gardens to some funky ass grooves night. Yeah, that’s what it is! Now watch out there boy!

Hi all! Happy end of the week to ya. Looking forward to a weekend of fun again at Field and Fin. We are open Friday from 4, for some great tunes and pizza. Saturday we are closed as we are fully booked for a private event, however we are back to it on Sunday from midday. Look forward to seeing you. Don’t forget, if you can, always hug a dog. 🧡

Everyone loves a hot cuppa! But, Coffee freaks! We need your help. We are opening for coffee and breaky soon, so peeps can enjoy the farm during the day. So we are looking for a coffee supplier! Someone that aligns with our ethos and has good beans. Because coffee, well, it’s everything! We don’t just drink it, we grow mushrooms from it as well and every cup sold sends money up to our conservation project in Papua! So send us your recommendations so we can get the mornings on the farm moving, soooooon. ❤️

It’s spring, and one of the jobs at the urban farm is getting in to the tanks and moving out the fry that has spawned from our yabbies and prawns. Part of keeping a balanced system is playing god a little bit and removing young into various tanks away from larger species that might eat them. Freshwater prawns, yabbies, mussels, worms, microbes and fish all work together to keep our system balanced and clean. We are at about 3 years now without dumping out water to refresh the system, relying more on the natural process to keep the whole system balanced.

Bringing the bush to the city

The rooftop is the home and private studio of Daryl (Daz) Byrne and his business “Field and Fin”, located in Marrickville NSW. For over 10 years Daz has opened this space to community and like minded people for pop up dinners, exhibitions, talk nights, workshops, music nights and private events.

With wonderful rooftop gardens and great views spread over three levels, Daz has worked to create a space that will connect a community of like minded people, allowing them to host or share in private events, tucked out of the buzz of the city yet still within the city.

A bunch of talented chefs, musicians and artists frequent the studio and help to create unique nights of delicious food and great music and art whilst supporting an inclusive and connective experience for all who visit the private and warm home environment.

When not hosting events and pop up dinners Daz uses the studio to showcase his green space installations and to hold information nights about his Papua New Guinea Eco lodge project. Located out in the coral sea of PNG, Daz has leased 5 small islands on 20km of reef, on top of a reef wall that drops to over a kilometre deep. Here he runs remote eco camp trips that support local community and put children in to school whilst protecting one of the truely last untouched wildernesses in the world.
