We were excited to have Dr Brodie Argue from Tamworth Equine Veterinary Centre visit Avenel this week! 🏥

Brodie is no stranger to our hospital, having previously worked here as an Ambulatory Veterinarian from 2018 to 2021. 🚑

During Brodie's visit, he teamed up with Surgeon Dr Duncan Pearce to provide sport medicine services, including lameness assessments, joint injections, and performance evaluations, to the Victorian equine athletes. 🐴

⭐ Fun Fact: Brodie & Duncan completed their Residencies.

This visit is a fantastic example of cross-clinic collaboration across the Scone Equine Group. We’re fortunate to have access to Veterinarians in various fields across the Group, allowing us to share expertise and provide the highest level of veterinary care. 👨‍⚕️

Today we say goodbye to one of our valued team members, Tiarn Northey, who has been a dedicated veterinary nurse at Tamworth Equine Veterinary Centre since August 2022. 🏥

Tiarn first started her nursing journey in 2016, completing a traineeship at a mixed veterinary practice in Manilla, where she gained invaluable general nursing experience, predominantly working with small animals. However, with a lifelong passion for horses and years of competing in Stock Horse classes, Tiarn was eager to further her skills in equine nursing, and we were lucky to have her join our team. 🐴

Over the past few years, Tiarn has shown incredible dedication and care to both our patients and clients. Her commitment to growing as a nurse and her love for horses has made her a wonderful asset to TEVC, and we will certainly miss her friendly and positive presence around the clinic. 🩺

We wish Tiarn all the best in her future endeavors. 🤩

Cleo’s Colic 🩺

Meet 'Cleo', a 7-week-old miniature foal who recently had us all on our toes at Tamworth Equine Veterinary Centre! 💕

Cleo was referred to us following an episode of colic, along with inappetence and dehydration. Dr Matt Kelly and our team, provided intravenous fluid therapy and analgesia, while carefully managing her refeeding to support a smooth recovery.👨‍⚕️

Cleo was soon back to her usual cantankerous self and ready to head home. 🐴💪

Ever wonder why we check horses on both hard and soft surfaces during a lameness exam? Each type of ground offers unique insights that help us pinpoint where the issue might be. 💁‍♀️

🦴 Hard Surfaces reveal pain or issues in bones, joints, and hoof capsules, as these structures are under higher stress on a firm ground. If a horse shows more discomfort here, it’s a clue to check for issues in these areas!

💪 Soft Surfaces provide a cushion but put more strain on muscles and soft/tendon tissues like ligaments. When lameness shows up on soft ground, we focus on these areas to uncover the root cause.

Whether it’s a subtle soreness or a deeper injury, assessing your horse on multiple surfaces gives us the full picture for a targeted treatment plan.📝

Tamworth Equine Veterinary Centre 🏥
Tamworth Equine Veterinary Centre is a referral equine hospital located in Tamworth, the heart of the New South Wales north west Pleasure and Performance Horse region. The practice offers Assisted Reproduction services; Intensive Care, Lameness and Podiatry for horses in our hospital and provides a comprehensive On Farm service to our equine clients in the region.

The Role 🩺
The Equine Nurse position is a full-time fixed term position. You are well supported by an experienced team of veterinarians, visiting specialists, nurses and support team. This is a Monday – Friday role with minimal weekend requirements (approx. 1 in 4 on call).

Our Story

Tamworth Equine Veterinary Centre provides surgical, medical, reproductive and referral services to the horse population of Tamworth district and to the North and North West region of New South Wales. The practice offers a full medical, diagnostic and surgical service to horse owners and trainers. With an operating theatre and full hospital facilities the Centre offers comprehensive services including surgery, radiography, ultrasonography, endoscopy and intensive care. We also provide a full ambulatory service to the district and regular visiting racetrack and stud services. The 30 acre complex is located within 2kms of the central business district of Tamworth, the regional centre for the Northern part of New South Wales, Australia. The Centre is located on lush alluvial country with full irrigation and is bordered by properties specializing in the provision of spelling (resting) of horses at pasture. The complex has a central barn which houses a state-of-the-art reproductive laboratory, operating theatre, radiography suite, hospital stalls and general medical infrastructure. Attached is the administration complex. Adjacent to the main barn is an undercover serving arena and crush complex. There are undercover day yards and the balance of the complex is divided into yards, Stallion yards with individual boxes and paddocks, all interconnected with broad laneways. Our reproduction division is a performance horse stallion station, we accept stallions from all over Australia for semen freezing, standing, export, domestic shipment of chilled semen, semen evaluation, and more.
