Ted doing what he loves best.
Chasing the lure.
We had a great weekend at the Winter Carnival with 2 passes. Half way to his next lure coursing title.
4 more to go. 😊

Many thanks to Penny Parker who takes images of our dogs and allows us to use them for free.

I trotted Meg out to the Cattle Dog and Kelpie Club of Qld annual show. A small but strong entry of Stumpies in both the Open and Championship shows.

Meg was on her best behaviour (for a change😁) and made me very proud of her.

*Open Show under judge Miss S. Wheatley

Australian Bred Bitch of breed
Best Bitch
Best of Breed

*Championship Show under judge Mrs L. Saranchuk (Canada).

Australia Bred Bitch of Breed
Challenge bitch (and a nice 9 points)
Best of Breed.

Meg also won the Best Coat in the property classes against the other Stumpies, ACDs and Kelpies.

Thanks to the Cattle Dog and Kelpie Club for a well run show. And thank you to all of the sponsors for the lovely prizes and rosettes.

Brag post incoming. 😁
I took Ted to Lure Coursing at Durack today. He absolutely loves it.
We are chasing 8 qualifying certificates to gain his next Lure coursing title.

To get one of these you need to pass 2 runs at the same trial. So 16 passing runs in total for 8 qualifying certificates.
We are in the Coursing Ability class.

Today, Ted smashed it.
We gained a qually (6 to go) and he came first in his class again.

Thank you to Brisbane Lure Coursing Club for a fun, relaxing and welcoming day out with beautiful weather. And a very lovely rosette.

Sharing this from a friend.
It's a long read, but it's worthwhile. As many of us have had to make the hardest decision about a much loved pet.
I still remember like it was yesterday, the day I had to say goodbye to my heart dog. My first ever Stumpy Bob. It was a very hard call to make, but the right one. I was heartbroken.

We need to be selfless, rather than selfish, when it comes to the welfare of our pets.

Whilst I am away interstate without my dogs.
I miss them.
I miss their companionship, their eagerness to please. their stubbornness and their quirks.

I do dog sports with them as it helps to build a better relationship, it helps me to better understand my dogs, and they also teach me to be a better dog person.

Some Stumpy show people have told me that doing dog sports is a waste of time.
It absolutely isn't.
Stumpies love to be busy and use their brains.
Both of mine like to do different things.
If I didn't do dog sports, how would I have learned this??

Ted went to Lure Coursing on Saturday night in the rain. The coursers are a hardy bunch. 😁

With 75 odd dogs entered, it was an interesting and fun night despite the wet.

Ted competes in the Coursing Ability class and there was 25 dogs entered in this category. Ted absolutely goes nuts at Lure Coursing coz he loves it so much.
And to my surprise and delight. Ted won first place, earned a qually and got a lovely ribbon and a new toy to de-squeak. πŸ˜…
He is developing a little fan base too.

He is to the best of my knowledge the only Stumpy currently Lure Coursing in Qld.
There have been a few in the past that have been very successful. Luci and Little Pattie.

A huge thanks go to the dedicated volunteers who run these events, even in the rain. If it wasn't for their hard work our dogs wouldn't have all these great things to do.
Thanks also to Penny Parker for her photos and allowing us all to have them at no cost.

Over the weekend I took Meg and Ted out to do a few things.

Meg attended the Toowoomba Royal on Friday where there was a strong contingent of 11 Stumpies entered.
It was lovely to meet all the Stumpy Exhibitors and see thier dogs in person. So much better than looking at photos.
Meg did very well and was awarded reserve bitch challenge.
I had a lovely day out and Meg behaved beautifully.
Congratulations go to MQ Heart for their BOB with young Mingo, and Racheal being awarded bitch challenge and RUBOB with her young girl Diva from Avatinni Kennels.

As an owner of two dogs, with other dogs that visit or stay for a bit. This something I always take into consideration.

Just like humans, not all dogs get along with each other. And we need to respect that and manage it accordingly to prevent issues.

WE humans insist we keep dogs.
WE humans therefore, need to be responsible in ensuring appropriate management by observing dog-dog interactions and dog-human interactions.
AND acting accordingly.

That is all. 😊

This.
Don't get me wrong.
Showing and doing dogs sports are great activities to do with your dog.
I do them.
But the majority of people just want a sound pet with a stable temperament. 😊

Today Ted and I ventured out to see what dryland sled dog racing was all about.

It's very different to what Ted is used to. I spend so much time not allowing him to pull on the lead when we are out and about.
And suddenly he is not only allowed to pull, but being encouraged to. πŸ˜…

The Sled Dog Racing Queensland Inc. Club had a fabulous come and try day, and it only took two tries for Ted to work out he could run, pull, bark as much as he liked and have fun. The club members were very generous with their time and loaned out here equipment. As I have a b**g knee and can't really run, Ted and I did Scooterjoring.

As you can see in the picture. Ted has a new joring harness and we will be joining the ranks of the dryland mushers. πŸ˜€

We received many positive comments about what a fabulous temperament Ted has, how enthusiastic he was and that they don't think they have seen a Stumpy do dryland mushing in Qld. They have German Shorthair pointers, German Shepherds, Border Collies, Dachshunds and even a Pomeranian that take part. Any and all breeds are welcome. Reactive dogs, barkers, you name it, they can all participate. And bark as much as they like. 🀣

We can't wait to have another go.

Ted and I spent the morning out with a small group of like minded people to take advantage of a very generous offer of some scent work training.

Ted had a blast, he sniffed and sniffed.
Just not always where the scent was hidden. 🀣

Ted can indicate on birch (we have been training at home), and after today I know what needs to be polished a bit more. Hopefully we will be ready to enter our first trial soon.

A huge thanks to the people who gave up their Saturday morning to help out a bunch of keen newbies.

Taking on an older dog means that you don't have to endure puppy nonsense.

I can recommend an older dog, as my first ever Stumpy was 18mo when I got him. Once you have been loved by a Stumpy, you will never want another breed. 😍

Alittletail Stumpies has 1 older dog that could benefit from a change in living arrangements. If you are -
1) a person/couple that prefers to stay home
2) looking for a loyal companion
3) understand and have experience with working breeds
4) are kind and caring and don’t currently have a dog,
then please get in touch. Serious inquiries only, as only the best suitable homes will be considered. Pet/working homes only. Desexed

Today I dusted off the show lead and took Meg out for the day. Since having her pups she has only been out to three shows in the last couple of months. A few weeks ago at Wondai she won Her class in Group in the Open show. She got a lovely yellow ribbon.

Today she won Best of Breed in both the Open and Championship shows.
No frillies, but that's ok. It's all about getting Meg used to showing again after such a long break away from it.

I know I always take the best dog home. πŸ˜‰

Teddy boi hasn't really done much this year.
He has been perfecting his lazybones skills. πŸ˜…

That's about to change.
His new tracking harness arrived today.
So now we both need to dip our collective toes into the tracking, scent work and possibly bikejouring worlds.
Total novices, but we will have a crack.
Ted does love to sniff.

It's time for a puppy update.

My special blue bean Miss Jili has landed in the most fabulous of homes. She is living at an Eco-Resort in the rainforest.

Daily swims in the creek. Doggy siblings to rough house with. Human kids to play with.
There is lots of interesting activity for her to be involved in. And she has become the self appointed assistant tour guide, taking herself with her humans on the tours either on foot, or in the buggy.

I am so happy for this little girl, who will be a breed ambassador for both national and international tourists.

It makes my heart warm...

I received this unsolicited testamonial email today. I'm so pleased that my pups have such great new homes.

Thank you to Mick, who is happy for me to supply a contact number via PM to verify this is genuine.

"Recently I purchased a pup from Louise at her breeder name Braegem. Louise is very thorough in her breeding program, she ticked all boxes as a dedicated and honest breeder. Supplying all relevant information and documents, more than expected from start to finish of discussions and purchase. She was very transparent, honest and caring it wasn't just about a sale, the pup was treated with dignity making the whole process a very pleasant experience . I confidently recommend her to anyone wishing to purchase a similar puppy.

Sincerely Mick E.

For anyone looking for a great balanced dog trainer. Sarah is your girl.

She may live in WA, but offers training session via Zoom and messaging. She has 5 dogs of her own, and several of them are Stumpies.

Sarah is very successful with her dogs in obedience, agility and scent work and understands the quirks our beloved Stumpies have.

I highly recommend Sarah Hotter for all your dog training needs.

While Miss Bikkie Long-tail is waiting to find her forever home, she is out and about learning about the world and developing some nice manners. Miss Bikkie Long-tail.
Still looking for her own family.
She loves to be involved in everything you are doing.

🐾 Walks nicely on a lead.
🐾 Trained to use a p*e pad. But if you take her outside regularly she will toilet on the grass.
🐾 Clicker trained, so if you want to keep working on her basic obedience, she is ready to learn. 😊

This pup has had BAER testing and has full bilateral hearing.
Full DNA breed panel and clear of all diseases being tested for.
All vet work and worming.
Microchipped
Limited registered with Dogs Qld.

I have had lovely feedback from the new owners of her littermates about how easily they have adjusted and what nice manners they have.

Message me for more info.

This michevious tailed girl is known as Bikkie.

She is the ugly duckling of the litter, but she has a great personality. She has gorgeous dark brown eyes and will have a bit of leg under her.

BAER tested as full hearing, full breed DNA panel. All vet work etc.

Raised using Puppy Culture protocols that have ensured she is confident and outgoing. Bikkie walks well on a lead and loves to sit next to you on your foot.
Nearly 12 weeks old and she needs her own person.

This little guy has settled in to his new home after he left us last week. His new name is Mack and he is very loved and spoiled. πŸ’—
He is allowed inside and has a new bed all to himself.
Mack loves to boss his new long tail Stumpy big sister around. He wakes his new mum up when he needs to go out to the toilet at night, and walks like a pro on a lead.
Puppy Culture for the win.
