This page and story is dedicated to the beautiful Angel and her babies who were supposed to be rescued on Tuesday 14th Oct 2014 from Renbury Farm Animal Shelter in Sydney Australia. A rescue had put their name down to save this beautiful family and it all went terribly, horrifyingly wrong. It was arranged by the rescue grop that the little family (Angel had 3 premmie kittens in the pound) would be
removed from the pound and taken to a nearby vet to board, where Angel could look after her little ones with a bit more comfort and more importantly, out of the shelter where flu and sickness is rife and cold disregard for the animals welfare the order of the day. The kind volunteer who was transporting Angel and her kittens to the vet picked her up from Renbury and got them into her car. The little bubs were mewing and as the kittens were so tiny the transporter wanted to make sure before they set off that mama Angel wasn't sitting on them. In the resulting chaos the terrified young cat struck out and bit the transporter. She then went back inside for help to try and get her back in the carry cage and this is when Renbury decided to keep Angel and kill her, leaving 3 babies behind that were only 1 day old. I could go on and on about how wrong this is but I need to stick to the cause at hand and what I'm fighting for. My supporters on this page along with me are outraged as a community and we have lashed out in shock and disgust but now we need to come together with a clear and professional head and nail this shelter to the wall for what they did and make a change for the future, enough is enough-the laws need to change and I need to be the voice for Angel and all the other innocent animals that have died in our so called shelters. I am also fighting for better conditions in these shelters, and we need more compassionate animal lovers to work in these places not a manager that has proven that she hates cats. we need COMPASSIONATE SHELTERS here in Sydney, other states have come on board and it is about time we stand up and make a change for our homeless and abandoned cats and dogs as they deserve a second chance at life. We also need a law that protects our beautiful scared and feral cats – it’s not the fault of the cat that it has ended up in this shelter lost and alone, and it’s no wonder these cats lash out and bite because of how they are treated, or that should be, mistreated. After what I have seen there with my own eyes, that would be enough to make any normal cat bite, let alone one who ends up in that place, usually they have been trapped or just snatched away by irate neighbours and they are understandably traumatised. One day I was there collecting what they called a ‘feral’ kitten but when I went to get her from the back room an older female worker was standing there trying to poke her with a broom handle and push her towards the cage - door this baby was terrified, I told her to move back and let me try, and I put my arms out and spoke gently to the kitten and she jumped in my arms and is now living the high life as a beautiful pet in a loving home. There are many many stories of Renbury-tagged ‘feral’ cats being adopted or rescued who are just scared domestic cats. It’s not enough that they are trapped and traumatized, they are then put through this hell and then what do they do? They punish them with death and cruelty from day to day. I have tried to make small suggestions to Renbury about better ways to run the shelter and handle the scared babies as we as foster parents know better because we foster feral and scared cats all the time, but they do not like to listen, I even started a warm bed drive where I raised money to buy warm beds for the outdoor cats as they have no-where to sleep in the winter to stay warm and most sleep in the litter trays. We took out so many beds and donated them and they were hardly used. The condition of the cats in these shelters are just horrendous most of the poor rescued babies I have fostered from Renbury were close to death with flu, dehydration, lice, fleas, ringworm and were skin and bones and always go straight from Renbury to the vets and end up costing me hundreds of dollars. I have been receiving message after message from people with their own horror stories to tell about Renbury and some of the staff that work there and how they run this evil place, as I sit here in tears and wonder why God would allow this to happen to our beautiful innocent furry friends, I ask of you all to re-direct your anger to the right channels and people so we can finally make a change for these babies. Let’s come together as one and fight for Angel and many others that have lost their lives, died afraid, died alone, - doomed to die at the hands of staff who couldn’t care less - because they were homeless and abandoned.
