I’m a bit stunned tonight, to hear from my partner that he came home to Snickerdoodle passed on. I didn’t catch any signs of illness really, I just thought he was a bit quiet when I left on Tuesday. But he can be like that. You know?
He didn’t like it when we went away the other weekend either. And I do feel guilt about leaving him again, and him passing. Though they are shockingly fragile fish at the best of times, they’re still beloved parts of my our little family. And I wasn’t ready 🥺 Shedding a few quiet tears now.
He didn’t seem to suffer, and for that I am grateful. Very keen now to be reunited with them all so I can check them very carefully.
Tomorrow is not promised. Appreciate your fishy pals every day

I thought Jump was a pest with her sewer slidal activities. But Yeet has been through the most traumatic (and consequently traumatised me) week.
On Monday she was on the floor and it was touch and go away that. Til she demanded dinner and I knew she’d be fine. So it’s been damage control treating her a few salt baths and clean water.
Only for me to turn on the lights this morning and find her gone. Again. On the floor? Oh no, in with the neighbour.

Look, I do think when a hybrid reaches the stage of having vanda, it’s not too “hybrid” anymore. Nonetheless she is just a stunner and I had to have her.
I’m quite interested to see if using splenden hybrids (that is to say “wild types”) will help moderate some of the genetic f*ckery we see in our domestic splendens these days

I have been playing around with feeding some live foods to the gang. There has been a resounding approval of the black worms - Nitro will now only eat them. Except from Mars. Brine shrimp or d!3 🤣🤷🏻♀️

Betta fry are raised by their male parent, until they are able to ‘free swim’; that is to be able to swim away from the nest capably. Wild species move on from the nest where the fry will fend for themselves. I will remove Mars in a couple more days, his watch will then be done and he can rest in his own tank again 🥰 I am beyond ecstatic to have so many tails hanging. I cannot wait to help them grow!
