It's been a little while between social media posts here but we are still doing what we're doing behind the scenes. Sourcing excellent brands of Icelandic horse gear to use ourselves and help other people get ready to ride.

And just like that I'm now the mother of two adults. Youngest turned 18 recently and tonight we celebrate 21 years with my eldest.
I have loved watching these to beautiful humans grow into men.
The boys didn't ever catch the horse bug but they sure spent a lot of time around them.
Very grateful for their infinite patience. Life as a single working, farming mum wasn't exactly easy, but I wouldn't have traded those deliciously chaotic memory packed years for anything.
- My other boy, imported stallion, Haukur fra Studlum is also 21 years old this year! Not sure where all that time went - he was only 7 when I met him in Iceland. -💛💙💛

PRIMA LADIES SHIRT from EQUES
I absolutely LOVE my Prima Shirt. It's on high rotation here. Still looking really smart and nice despite the absolute hammering it gets on the farm. It's really comfortable!
So easy to layer in the winter and the perfect thing to put on top of a singlet top to cover up in summer.
It is long and nicely shaped at the back so there is no flashing of the kidney warmers or any plumbers crack action. With holes for your thumbs in the arms you have built in fingerless gloves when you need them! Zipper at the neck for those Hot Cold Hot moments!

Little things that make a big difference!
Stirrup leather protectors: from EQUES
Slide these nifty little sleeves onto your stirrup leathers to spare your saddle from unnecessary wear from the stirrup leathers, placed on the outside or inside the saddle flaps.
Apply over the stirrup leathers and fasten with the stirrup leathers on the stirrup mount.
Suits both 70 cm or 80 cm stirrup leathers.

Stirrup Holder from EQUES
The soft strap of nylon and leather is placed on the cantle and the stirrups are mounted on the snap hooks.
It is a practical anchoring of the stirrups while the saddle is not in use. It prevents the saddle from becoming dirty with mud from stirrups hanging in direct contact with it.
By sliding the leather loops on both sides the strap can be adjusted in size.

Balance Strap from EQUES
Soft leather strap that supports the rider in having a stable and steady hand during riding. It is also helpful for keeping the balance in the saddle.

EQUES STIRRUPS
I personally LOVE the Icelandic S shaped stirrups. They are super easy to put your foot in and out of. Lightweight so less weight on the saddle/horse. Plus I find they don't slop around or smash you in the shins as much as the old heavy stainless steel stirrups do as you cart the saddle around in your arms.

Eques Sella Soft saddle
This is so far my favourite reasonably priced Icelandic Saddle from Danish company Eques. It’s quite light weight and super comfy for my old bones! Suits a lot of different riders and horses.
EQUES Sella Soft
• Medium open seat gives the rider the chance to adjust in the seat
• Form cut medium sized kneepads gives a great allround fit
• Panels with 1 layer of soft latex
• Extra 3 mm latex in seat and saddle flap gives the rider a soft fit
• A-tree
• Changeable gullet system –Gullet A
The A-tree is the most common saddle tree in EQUES saddles. It is a flexible tree with an open centre and a wide channel. This combination fits many Icelandic horses well. The gullet has a vertical position in the tree.

EQUES SADDLES
Danish Icelandic Horse Saddle brand Eques now have about 15 different styles of saddle to choose from!
While that can be a bit mind boggling they have some very helpful information on their website to help choose a great saddle.
In Australia I’ve found the Sella Plus and Sella Soft to be super comfortable and versatile for a range of riders and horses. They have interchangeable gullets and are not too expensive.

WHO IS VIKING RIDER?
My name is Amy Haldane and I run Haldane Icelandic Horses, Australias first Icelandic Horse stud.
Our Icelandic horse stud started in 1996’ish with the importation of 8 fillies and a c**t from Denmark. After many years of breeding, training and selling Icelandics we run 60+ Icelandic Horses, a few pet alpacas, sheep and goats near the coast in South West Victoria.

Offering Icelandic Horse Tack for the folks Downunder. We run Haldane Icelandic Horses the oldest and biggest Icelandic stud in Australia and know how hard it can be to find things that work for our horses.
Viking Rider was born of necessity over 10 years ago as there was nothing available in Australia at the time for gaited horses. All our saddles and Icelandic sized gear had to be imported. To ensure our clients had better choice of quality, well fitting gear than we did, Amy continued to bring in more equipment and resources.
With between 50 - 100 horses on the farm, there’s been a lot of road-testing ( and tolt testing) of different products over the years! We know what suits the breed, is functional, shows off our personality's and our horses, plus what has stood the test of time.
Our aim is to also support talented hard working Aussie’s by offering Australian made items in our online store.
The Icelandic sized saddles and gear can be used on ponies and other wanna be unicorns too. Amy has even ridden a clydesdale in her favourite Icelandic training saddle. So please feel free to ask about sizing and advice for your horse. We have several saddle styles you can ride in to work out which feels the best.
Icelandic horse riding isn’t all prissy and stuffy either so I’ve carefully selected brands, colours and styles which reflect this. Because we all deserve to be spoilt there are little touches of luxury, bling and sparkle to make you feel extra special too.
Viking Rider is a touch of practical mixed with a generous sprinkle of fun, because horses bring so much joy and love to our lives.
