Please folks, use your flea and tick prevention meds! I helped a client collect her new rescue dog over the weekend. Between the vet, the owner, and me, we found two fully engorged paralysis ticks and the wound "craters" left by several more who'd had their fill and dropped off. The person who surrendered the dog hadn't bothered with the meds, and clearly also not with regular checks! We are all keeping our fingers crossed now that he doesn't succumb. Lucky for him, he's a larger breed of dog and may just escape requiring anti-venine...

Today may have been a holiday for some, but for me, it was walking two dogs this morning, home for lunch, then off to two different homes for pet minding. Oddly, it doesn't feel like work when I get to mingle with animals! :)

I got a Christmas present from a very very shy cat I'm minding for a few weeks. She normally hides and if I'm lucky, I might see her ears, or her tail. I always talk to her and she's been getting braver. She came out and said hi! Makes it all worth while. (She's under the bed in this pic, but normally, won't show all of herself at all).

It's nearly Christmas! While some people will be having time off, I certainly won't be. One three week booking and one 9 day booking for pet minding, not to mention the regular dog walking (they don't know it's Christmas!)

Unfortunately, I don't have any more slots available for pet minding or dog walking until 2024.

It's school holidays where I live. This impacts on where I can walk the dogs (car parking is at a premium, and I also need safe access/egress for pooches). But it has benefits - an increase in pet minding. I'll be looking after a very cute cat for the next two weeks, and more dog walking.

Busy time at the moment, and two cats to mind in two separate homes over the next week. Their people are away on holidays, and I get to cuddle their fur babies. Lucky me!

I love to look after fish - and here's a short video of my own tank (sitting right next to me as I type), where I keep my female guppies. I have 4 other tanks, and all of them are "tank-scaped" in some way...

I keep fish and have 4 tanks in my office and one in the family room. Here are my goldfish, with a Chinese algae eater in the top left corner. You can have them together as long as the temp doesn't drop below about 16 C overnight. To that end, I have a single heater set at 16 C which the algae eater can snuggle up with if he needs to. They are very happy together and I have no algae on the glass. Win/win! And by keeping the tank at a low stocking rate, I rarely do a water change - maybe once every couple of months.

So I met Rex and Rory on Sunday, and took them both for a walk on Monday. They are delightful dogs! Rory pulls a little on the lead, but Rex is a gentleman. I now have a regular gig with these two - twice weekly walks. And they are so loveable. This pic isn't Rex, but he does look a lot like this! He needs to lose some kilos and I'm happy to help him out. I will take some pics on my next visit.

Two new clients that I can't wait to meet on Sunday - Rex and Rory - rescue German Shepherds that really need walking and a little training. Thrilled to be taking these lovelies on - my first real exposure to working with dogs was with German Shepherds, and I love them. Pics will come of the two, but for now...

If you book for the entire long weekend (Friday through to Monday), you can receive a $20 discount - $5 off per day. And pensioners of all types can have that discount as well as their 10% off. But get in fast - places are limited, especially if you need dog walking as well as feeding.

When is it a good idea to use pet minding at your own home, rather than using a boarding service?

Don't get me wrong - catteries and kennels can be really valuable, and if your pet likes the adventure of new places and being with other animals, that's great.

But what if your pet doesn't do well and gets stressed outside its territory? Or you have pets that can't be accommodated at a boarding establishment. (I haven't seen anywhere that will take reptiles, for example). Maybe you have pets you can't move - literally - because they are in a permanent enclosure such as a big fish tank, or outdoor pond, or aviary, or coop, or stable...

That's where pet minding comes in. And I seem to do a good job (even if I say so myself), because I'm passionate about animals and their care.

I'm feeling grateful - my local pet shop (where I like to get supplies and fish from) - has up a poster of what I offer and some of my business cards. Thanks, Coff Coast Pets.

And my local vet clinic also has a little poster and some business cards.

I've always supported both of these service providers, but of course, there's no reason why they should support me - yet they are. And I'm grateful.

Tomorrow I get to spend time with Chocolate - a gorgeous cat that I've known for quite a few years. It will be my privilege to look after her while her mum is enjoying a holiday.

I'll be really happy to look after people's pets over Easter - after all, if I can't go away, I might as well spend time with my lovely fur friends.

The clients for today were pawfectly behaved. Apparently I am a new best friend for Peter (but I suspect that's just because of ball games and treats and a creek swim!) Pity I'd left my phone in the car or there could've been some action photos. Suffice to say, they have gone home pleasantly tuckered out and very happy.

What a lovely place to be able to walk and play with four-legged clients... just one of the approved areas for dog access in the Coffs Harbour area - this is near Sawtell at about 8:10 this morning. Beautiful! And lots of friendly dogs were out and about with their people.

I know what it's like when funds are limited, especially when you're a pensioner or senior. If you can provide proof (such as letting Sue sight your senior's card), you can receive a 10% discount on the service you book.

Wednesday was a tad warm, so I'm glad my first walk was in the morning. A little over 3 kms, some ball play, and some treats. The dogs were happy and so was I!
