Earlier this year, we stepped in to help with a heartbreaking hoarding case:
600+ mice crammed into tiny cages, breeding nonstop, injured and fighting.
We took in over 100, mostly pregnant females. Since then, 189 babies have been born into our care.

These babies are growing up in a new world, one filled with safety, space, and trust.
But we’ve hit a critical hurdle:
89 male mice need to be desexed urgently.

Without surgery, they’ll begin to fight.
Solitary housing isn’t sustainable, and it’s not the life they deserve.

Thanks to everyone who’s already donated, we’ve been able to book the first 30 boys in at Melbourne Pet Surgery, with another 20 set to be booked in this week.
But we still don’t have enough to cover them all.

💉 $150 per surgery
🐭 59 boys still in need
🎯 Goal: $5,000 to keep going

If you’re able to support this, we would be so grateful. Every donation, no matter the size, helps us move closer to a better life for them. 100% of all donations will go towards their vet care.

Earlier this year, our friends at .microsanctuary asked us to help with a devastating hoarding case.

Over 600 mice were discovered in heartbreaking conditions, crammed into tiny cages, stacked on top of one another, with barely enough room to move. Males and females were mixed together, leading to nonstop breeding. The boys were fighting, something intact male mice do when they hit puberty, especially when stressed and confined.

We took in over 100 mice, most of them pregnant females. Since then, more than 100 babies have been born into our care.

Over the past few months, we’ve watched those babies grow up into a completely different world than the one their parents knew.

Over time, we’ve seen them begin to trust us and even more beautifully, we’ve watched them build strong bonds with each other.

But now we’re facing a serious hurdle:
We have over 80 male mice who need to be desexed.

This is absolutely essential. Male mice who aren’t desexed will begin to fight viciously, sometimes to the death, from as young as 3 months of age. Housing them individually isn’t practical, we simply can’t maintain 80+ separate cages on top of our current 40 cages and solitary housing is not the life these mice deserve.

Desexing is the only way forward. It lets them live safely in groups, and gives them a real chance at a peaceful, connected life.

But we’ve been quoted $150 per surgery.
That’s over $12,000 total.
We’re trying to raise $5,000 to get started.

If you’re able to support this, we would be so grateful. Every donation, no matter the size, helps us move closer to that life for them. 100% of all donations will go towards their vet care.

They’ve already survived so much. Now, with your help, they can finally begin to thrive.

Thank you for standing with them and with us.

Mouse update 🐭

Around two months ago, FMN Rescue took part in one of the largest and most confronting hoarding cases we’ve ever encountered, rescuing over 600 mice in a single operation (you can read more in our previous post). From that number, we welcomed 135 mice into our care, our biggest intake to date, including many pregnant females.
Since then, we’ve had the privilege of watching new lives begin in a safe, nurturing environment. We’ve seen mothers care for their babies, watched tiny ears and eyes open for the first time, and witnessed each mouse grow and flourish. Their personalities have shone through, and we’re learning more about each one every day. It’s been an incredibly rewarding experience.

However, caring for so many lives hasn’t come without significant costs. Our initial setup exceeded $2,000, and with ongoing vet bills, food supplies, and our commitment to desexing all males, we’re reaching out for support. We’re urgently seeking donations to help cover these expenses. Any contribution, big or small, would mean the world to us. If you’re unable to contribute financially, sharing this post can still make a big difference.

We have many mice available for adoption, including groups of females and individually housed males. We’re also still looking for foster carers to join our team! If you’re able to open your heart and home to some of these mice, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

To our current foster carers, thank you. Your dedication has been nothing short of incredible, and we couldn’t do this without you.

Your support, whether through donations, sharing, fostering, or adoption means so much to us, and allows us to continue to give these mice the love, care and attention they deserve. Thank you for being a part of this journey.

🚨 CALL FOR HELP 🚨

Last Thursday, we assisted in rescuing over 600 mice from a heartbreaking hoarding situation, alongside .microsanctuary and

The conditions witnessed were devastating. Many of the mice were suffering from horrific injuries and illnesses and were overcrowded into tiny cages. While the rescue team could not negotiate the surrender of ~40 mice, their determined efforts resulted in over 600 mice being rescued.

We have had the pleasure of taking in ~150 of these mice and providing them with a safe place to stay, an appropriately sized cage with places to hide and toys to play with and a warm, secure space for mothers to give birth.
We have loved watching the mice blossom and begin to show their unique and beautiful personalities.

But we need your help! We are calling out for assistance, as we are now over capacity and caring for at least 150 mice, with most of the females pregnant.

We are urgently in need of:

* Donations
* Fosters and adopters for these sweet, deserving mice
* Sharing this post

Please reach out if you are able to help in any way, whether through donations, fostering, adoption or sharing this post. Your support is crucial to giving these mice a second chance at life. 🙏🐾

Exciting news: Cassie has given birth to two healthy babies! Both Cassie and her little ones are doing great!

Cassie has taken to motherhood with remarkable grace and is thriving in her new role as a proud and attentive mother.

Cassie had a rough start to life. She was confined to a small, filthy dog crate with several other male guinea pigs. When she was surrendered to us, we knew there was a high possibility that she was pregnant. It took us months to gain her confidence, but once she began to trust us, her beautiful personality began to shine through. For this reason, Cassie and her babies will be permanent residents here at FMN sanctuary. We are so proud of Cass and how far she has come.

We will continue to keep you updated on the development of Cassie’s babies. Stay tuned for more!

A few months ago, we welcomed three adorable guinea pigs, Ginny, Cassie and Pip. We knew there was a possibility that Cassie could be pregnant, despite only being under 1 year old.
Over the past few weeks, Cassie’s belly has doubled in size. After a vet visit, our suspicions were confirmed, Cassie is indeed pregnant!

We’re expecting her little ones around November 18th, as guinea pig pregnancies typically last 59-72 days. While litter sizes can range from 1 to 8 pups, we believe Cassie has 4 on the way. We can’t wait to meet them all! 🖤

Stay tuned for updates as we continue to care for Cassie and her babies. 🐹🤍

Meet Wendy, a beautiful young budgie who was surrendered into our care just a few weeks ago. At around 7 months old, Wendy is a social little lady who loves chatting with her budgie friend, Captain, and munching on corn.

Fun fact: Did you know a budgie’s cere (the area above the beak) can tell you their gender? Swipe to the next photo for more info!

While Wendy is not available for adoption just yet, stay tuned – we have 8 new birdies to introduce to you soon! 🩵🦜

Big News! Forget Me Not Rescue will now be a bird rescue and sanctuary.

While we will continue to assist all animals, our primary focus will now shift to rescuing birds. This decision reflects our founder’s extensive expertise as a veterinary nurse and wildlife biologist, along with over 10 years of experience caring for pet birds.

As dedicated advocates for animal rights, we believe the overall care for companion birds needs to improve within society, including stronger regulations around the breeding and selling of companion birds.

Forget Me Not Sanctuary currently houses over 12 birds. We will continue to share more about them in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more info! 💜

🐱Available for adoption🐱
Meet Crumble, a stunning and sweet lady who is ready to find her forever home.

Crumble is a calm and gentle senior cat who loves nothing more than being showered with love and pats. She loves to snooze on the cat scratcher and stare out the window, like a queen watching over her kingdom.

Her sweet nature means that she finds joy in simple pleasures, making her an easygoing furry friend who is perfect for a calm and loving household. Crumble is looking for a home where she is the only cat present. She gets along well/ignores calm dogs.

Crumble was hit by a car when she was younger and has multiple breaks in her pelvis and back legs. Due to this, she does not have full mobility of her back legs, but is able to walk and jump without problem.

If you think you can provide Crumble with a loving forever home, visit or follow the link: https://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/1062284
