Thursday’s Tip: Walking with your dog…Use consistent commands, the same words in the same locations for the same responses from your dog. Be careful you don’t overload them with endless conversation, just simple commands to tell them what you want & expect. “Sit”, “Good dog!”. “Stay”,
“Good girl/boy!”. “Forward” or “Let’s go!” If your dog likes to stay on your left side or right side try to keep them on the same side. That way you reduce the risk of getting caught up tripping on the lead or colliding with your dog.

Hot days coming up for Perth!
TIP: Limit your dog walks to before the temperature hits 30° (28° for small dogs) & if you can only walk in the afternoon always check the surfaces your dog will be walking on - metal plates, brick, tiled concrete & sandy paths. If you can’t hold the back of your hand on that surface comfortably for 2-3 seconds, it is too hot for your dog. You will burn their sensitive pads. Call Matt’s K9 School for advice: 0466 034 449

Tip for hot weather…make sure your dog has easy access to plenty of fresh clean water. (Yes, please clean their bowl every day.)
If your dog is a reluctant drinker let them see you drop a piece of kibble in the water. If that doesn’t interest them, add a few hundred millilitres of water into their breakfast/ dinner bowls on hot days i.e. 30°+ Keep those kidneys healthy!

TODAY’S TIP: With high temperatures forecast for the Perth region in the coming days, it’s important to remember that our K9 friends don’t have the same metabolism as us to handle temperatures over 30° Celsius.
Make sure your furry friends have access to lots of clean cool fresh water and don’t exercise or walk them over 30°. Take care walking your dog over metal grates & plates on the footpath on hot days. Burnt foot pads can mean 3 to 4 days of lameness.
