Sarah is excited to be back from maternity leave and back to doing what she loves as a physiotherapist for our furry friends!
I'm back working at in Ripponlea this Friday 16th of August and then will be back alternating Tuesday and Wednesdays from the start of September.

π Despite the smiles, last week was a sad week as we lost one of our regular physio clients, the adorable 13 year old Jayda. She was such a sweet soul and loved so much by us and her owners.
π Her lovely owner dropped in to thank us for all the help with managing Jayda's aches and pains and guidance when managing her end of life care.
π It reminds us of the difference we can make to a dog and their owners life and makes us so thankful to be able to help dogs remain comfortable towards the end of her life
π We will miss the gorgeous Jayda, but know she is happy and pain-free ππ
π Hazel - 19 month old German Shepherd π
βΌοΈ Hazel came for her first physiotherapy appointment 12 months ago with a hindnlimb issue after running with other dogs. She went back to her regular vet for radiographs, which showed she had hip dysplasia.
She went to a specialist vet who recommended a conservative approach of physio and hydrotherapy.
π¦ Hazel had regular hydrotherapy in the underwater treadmill and then started swimming in the pool at . She has had regular physio checks and her owner has done exercises and massage at home.
Today, we saw Hazel for another physiotherapy review and she is doing so well. No discomfort in her hips and her walking looks much better!
ππ We are so happy to see her doing so well and she even completed adventure dog a 4km adventure course and wasn't even sore π

π The adorable 1 year old cavoodle has had a fracture in his knee as a puppy which he recovered well from but came for a physio appointment as he has patella luxations (meaning his knee caps move in and out of the right place)
π He was such a sweet boy and during his session we have given him a massage and provided the owner with a home exercise program and he will start hydrotherapy in the underwater treadmill
βΌοΈ Patella luxations can be managed conservatively if they are considered low grade (grade 1-2) and the symptoms aren't too severe. It is important to work with your veterinarian and ensure they have adequate pain relief
π₯° This gives you an idea of what physiotherapy sessions can look like π
πΆ Fanta is the most adorable girl who loves coming for her massage and stretching session. Fanta has had a cruciate ligament injury and a grade 2 patella luxation which we are managing conservatively πΆ
π These conditions can require surgery but we can manage these conditions conservatively in certain circumstances but it is important to determine how appropriate this is and these are some factors:
- Dog's size (smaller size is easier to manage conservatively)
- Severity of symptoms
- Dog's age and physical activity levels
- Any other medical conditions
βΌοΈ Regardless, it is important to work with the local vet and ensure that animal has adequate pain relief and must be restricted from certain activities and it is important to work with a qualified animal physio to help get your pet back on track.

β¨οΈHe is such a sweet boy and will aim to keep him strong and comfortable for as long as possible. He has a home program and we have recommended hydrotherapy in the underwater treadmill π¦

β¨οΈ Harvey has had a hind limb amputation and is doing so well π
π¦ Harvey comes in for regular hydrotherapy sessions
πͺ Harvey came for another physiotherapy appointment 3 months after his amputation. We had a look at his remaining 3 limbs and he is doing very well considering his age. He had a lovely massage and some stretching and his mum will be continuing this at home
π Harvey is a great example of how well dogs can do with an amputation even when they are getting older

π₯ Diesel has multiple disc bulges in his back which we are managing conservatively, these presented as weakness in his back legs π₯
β¨ He is doing so well with regular hydrotherapy to help keep his strength in his back legs and massages as his front legs can get a bit stiff from working so hard β¨

β¨ Today I officially graduate from my Masters of Veterinary Physiotherapy β¨
β° This is the end of the 3 year course which include 2 trips to the UK, 2 trips to Queensland, 10 days of placement with veterinarians and 20 place days with fellow veterinary physiotherapists and is on top of my 4 year Bachelor of Physiotherapy β°

The course has been challenging at times, including waking up at 2-3am for journal clubs, studying pretty much for 2 years straight with minimal breaks and completing a research project in the final year β
π So thankful to have that the support from family and friends and proud that I managed to get it finished π

π© Cleo is a 3 year old Chow Chow who came for lameness in one of her back legs - she had a previous surgery on the leg a year ago.
π She was just the sweetest thing and she is doing some hydrotherapy and a personalised home program
β¨ Java - 2 year old Border Collie β¨
π© Java's owner noticed he was having some issues when running π©
ποΈ Java had some discomfort in his back which seems to be causing the issues ποΈ
π οΈ We recommended modifying some activities for Java, he had some massage and provided the owner with a home exercise program to help improve the discomfort for Java π οΈ
β It is very common for Border Collies and other working breeds to develop soreness and it is great when owners bring them in early to help manage this so they don't suffer the consequences of these issues later in life β

β¨Gemma - 4 year old Staghound X β¨
π Gemma came yesterday for one of her regularly treatments, she is such an gorgeous girl and pleasure to treat π
π οΈ Gemma has had surgeries on every limb - she was diagnosed with elbow dysplasia and hip dysplasia as a puppy and also had surgery for patella luxations π οΈ
ποΈ Despite her long list of issues, she has the sweetest soul and is a happy girl. We are currently trying to improve some stiffness in her front end coming from her elbows. We are doing hands on treatment and she is doing hydrotherapy in the underwater treadmill π¦

βοΈβοΈ I have been a little busy lately! We had the week off to enjoy some time at the snow after finishing my Master's research project the week before π
π©βπ« Very happy to have finished my research project and will find out the results in a couple of weeks π€

π Yesterday we had the adorable Korben in! He is a 5.5 month old Alaskan Klee Kai (small husky) and he was just divine!
π οΈ Korben has some loose patellas (knee caps) and we are trying to keep him moving prior to him needing surgery.
π¦ He did hydrotherapy and did so well for his first big water experience! ππ
πββοΈ We were able to give his mum some tips on how to manage him at home too.

πΆ Mila, the 8 yo Husky X Dalmatian (who knew how this would turn out), who had TPLO surgery
π Arrow, the 2yo Kelpie X German Shepherd, who has come for conditioning as he wants to do agility
πΆ Benny, the 6yo Griffin, who has an old back injury that we want to try to improve
π And finally, Oscar the Greyhound was back, he is now walking, which is so exciting!
π© We also had Niko, the 8yo poodle who has neck pain.
π I am currently completing the final year of my Masters of Veterinary physiotherapy through the University of Liverpool (UK) π€
π I have been completing an owner satisfaction survey to ensure we are providing the best possible service π
π©βπ Tonight (Morning in the UK) we shared our findings across veterinary physios and vets on our projects so it was interesting to find out what everyone was doing
βοΈ Over the next 6 weeks I'll be writing up my project results and we are hoping to get the results published!
