This 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆, let's spread some love for our adorable furballs and help find a forever home for an incredible feline friend in need! This Feline Friday we're changing it up a little due to having a team member available for Meet & Greets on Sunday

Jasper, Onyx, Saphire, Missy & Tux have watched on as other cats are adopted in much shorter time frames than they spent with us. Now that they’ve spent around two years in care they’ve watched over a hundred kittens and cats get adopted while they’re overlooked. Their crimes?
💚Being older
💚Being nervous or shy
💚Being black & white

These five cats are loved, Tux & Missy have gained confidence by spending time with Happy Paws Happy Hearts while Sapphire, Onyx & Jasper have been loved in foster care but each of them deserves their own home. A foster home or a cage in a shelter isn’t a home for life.

We are committed to finding their homes but we need your help, do you know someone who’s looking for an adult cat? Someone who won’t be put off by a cat who doesn’t immediately warm to them or seek affection in the first 24 hours?

We are seeking five forever homes so we can finally fulfill our promise to Jasper, Onyx, Sapphire, Tux & Missy that was made so long ago when they arrived into care and that was that we would find their homes. Introducing... THELMA & LOUISE!

These two little munchkins have spent several weeks in care gaining weight, learning to play and giving the team time to assess what they need in their forever homes to give them the best possible chance at life.

The girls are cattle dog x's but are very small for their age (11 weeks) they need a home committed to ensuring they get good nutrition for the rest of their lives to make up for the less then ideal start. They want to be part of the family so whoever adopts needs to be ready to take them on adventures, they don't deserve to just be left at home. We are looking for homes committed to ongoing training and socialising so they can grow up to be well adjusted family members.

Meet our Tongues Out Tuesday star – Syrup, a 15 month old staffy x

Say hello to Syrup, an adorable mixed breed pup who, along with her siblings, was discovered abandoned in the state forest on the mid north coast. Thanks to an extraordinary collaborative effort by a dedicated rescue team, Syrup and her siblings are now safe and sound, wrapped in love as they begin a brand new chapter in their lives.

Syrup is on the lookout for a forever family that understands the importance of guidance and training. She's excited to learn right from wrong, striving to become the best version of herself. While having an older dog mentor would be a bonus, she's equally thrilled about the idea of being your one and only furry companion – with your support and guidance, of course!

On Friday we were asked to assist a family with the surrender of 11 seven week old American Staffy x Bull Terrier puppies. The family had reached out to another organisation struggling to cope and unfortunately that organisation were unable to assist so that organisation called us.

Although we are at capacity after discussing the situation something made us say yes.

And we are so glad we did. These little 11 herbs and spices are underweight and need some worming and lots and lots of love.

Today marks the start of their new beginning arriving into care.

After a drink, a feed and bath they have settled in and certainly do make a cute puppy pile 😍

Crunchy is our resident handsome man with an unconventional smile, and he is ready to find his perfect humans.

After having a challenging start to life and spending a significant portion of his time on earth at the shelter, Crunchy may initially appear a bit reserved and shy. Building trust is key for Crunchy, and he is in search of humans who can be his safe haven, allowing him to explore new experiences with the assurance that he's in good hands. Bandit & Pamela are chihuahua x's approximately 16 weeks old. They want to be part of the family so whoever adopts needs to be ready to include them, they don't deserve to just be left at home. We are looking for homes committed to ongoing training and socialising so they can grow up to be well adjusted family members.

Meet our Tongues Out Tuesday star – Max, a 16 month old staffy x

Max is a playful yet gentle puppy, brimming with eagerness to please. He is learning basic commands and leash manners, and his full-body excitement wag is truly a sight to behold. Friendly, sociable, and at the perfect age to adapt swiftly to a new environment, Max is a versatile companion suitable for households looking for a younger dog.

As Max has spent his early days in the shelter, he has missed the early part of his dog-socialisation window, as a result, you can think of Max as a small puppy in a big puppy's body. This means Max can be very boisterous and is needing to learn some manners when playing and engaging with other dogs. Max would be perfect as the only dog in the home, or in a home with an older, patient dog who is able to teach Max manners.

Similarly, if your home has children, we would suggest older children only as Max is still learning not to jump. The key to Max's perfect home lies in patience and willingness to guide him to seamlessly become a cherished member of your family, as with any puppy.

We interrupt your Sunday scrolling to introduce our Adoptable of the Week – Aramis, a 2 years and 3 months old Cattle Dog x

Handsome Aramis was born at HVAFARC and is very ready to go to his forever home to finally experience stability and love.

Being a working breed, he is extremely intelligent and a very quick learner, but don't be fooled, he is also very gentle by nature. He is currently in foster care with other dogs, and is also great around kids and cats. He loves going to bunnings, going for walks, and playing with his canine foster-siblings.

Aramis is toilet trained, and will let you know when he needs to go outside if there is no outside access through a dog-door. We require Aramis to go to a home with a confident dog owner to ensure he thrives in his forever home. He is crate trained, and will need to go to a home that will continue to provide this sense of security for him of a night time, and his new family will also need to be confident in continuing the safe use of a martingale collar. He would be best suited to a home where he is not going to be left alone for long periods of time, as he does get anxious when his trusted humans leave the house. Aramis also requires at least 6 foot fences.

Today we're reaching out with heavy hearts and tired hands. Our rescue shelter is home to over 50 beautiful animals, each with a story of hardship, abandonment, or neglect. Every day, our team pours love, sweat, and tears into giving them the care they deserve, but we're running on fumes. We're underfunded, exhausted, and in desperate need of your support.

Just last week, we saved sweet Thelma, part of a litter of 11 puppies taken to the vet to be euthanised. Thelma and her sister Louise are safe now, but there are so many more like her who need our help.

Imagine if everyone reading this could spare just $1 a week. That small amount, coming from many caring hearts, would transform our rescue. It would mean full bellies, warm beds, vet work and being able to transform our shelter with more capacity to help.

Meet our Tongues Out Tuesday star – Porridge, a 2 year old cattle dog x

Porridge, along with Coffee, is one of our longest-term residents at HVAFARC, coming into care very young. He is a friendly guy in need of a stable and loving home that allows him to truly thrive. As a working breed, Porridge can be stressed cooped up in his kennel. He loves when he can get out for walks, playtime, and cuddles. As he has been in care most of his life, Porridge may initially display nervousness when meeting new people, but he is steadily building his confidence with each new face he meets.

This intelligent young fellow loves his treats and peanut butter, and that is a surefire way to his heart. Porridge would flourish in a family that not only continues his training but also integrates him as a member of the household. Patience and understanding is key, and Porridge requires a family willing to take it slow and allow him to develop trust in his new humans. Currently bunking with his sibling Coffee, Porridge is adaptable, making him suitable as an only dog or in a multi-dog home pending a successful meet and greet.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 Tux?

Tux is a gentle soul who spent most of her life in isolation and entered HVAFARC kitty-rehabilitation as a result. As of early 2024, Tux has officially graduated her studies, and is on the lookout for her perfect home!

Despite such a hard start to life and lacking the stability of a home, Tux has become a whole new cat after some consistency and loving. She has a new lease on life and people, and would make a beautiful addition to most homes. She is learning how to play, and loves to explore. You will often find her sunbaking in a quiet corner somewhere, or curled up beside you if you're working quietly.

Tux is litter trained, and is currently sharing her space with other cats. She has also lived with a dog before, demonstrating how she can fit seemlessly into most homes! Tux is carrier trained, and is the first to jump right in with no fuss, making vet trips or holidays a breeze.

Tux has worked very hard at her studies to find her perfect home. If you could open your heart to a special girl who deserves a second chance in life, please apply to arrange a meet and greet.

Rescue is about running on the fly making plans then needing to change them when what you’re expecting isn’t what arrives.

Tonight we welcomed little Thelma and Louise into rescue and they aren’t in great condition.

4 puppies in 3 days that are all underweight and worm burdened.

This is heartbreaking these guys are the same age as another litter we have in care (for nsw bull terrier rescue) around the same breed size mix and are so much smaller and in a disgusting state.

I know it shouldn’t shock me anymore but honestly I have no words - I can feel every bone in their little bodies, their hip bones are prominent and honestly the photos don’t show the true extent.

We have bathed them, wormed them, they have had a yummy meal of fresh chicken mince and are now snuggled in a warm blanket.

I am truly sorry your first 8 weeks of life were so s**t little ones but we’ve got you now ❤️

A follow on from yesterday I know alot of you were worried about the puppies so I am pleased to let you know that with the help of a village and 4 rescues all 12 puppies that were taken to the vet to be euthanised are safe.

We have Thelma & Louise coming into care this afternoon 💚💚

We thank one of our awesome volunteers for stepping up and offering to help foster these two babies 💚

That takes our total in the last 48 hours to 6 saved!

In the last half hour, our rescue has been asked to help with a heartbreaking total of 26 puppies, all under 12 weeks old.

The first case involves 12 puppies whose owners are being evicted and took them to the vet to be put to sleep because they can't take them along. The second case is a community member whose two female dogs were impregnated by a stray, resulting in 14 puppies.

We have to say it—WTF!

Although we have "Facility" in our name, we don't have the financial backing of other funded facilities in our area. These larger organisations often pass along the responsibility to us, a volunteer-run re-homing groups, the list of rehoming groups is handed out faster than Garfield can find lasagna!

Until we can raise the funds for our much-needed rebuild and expansion, we simply can't keep up with the increasing requests for help. We're already stretched thin, paying down our vet fees and covering our weekly running expenses.

While we can't help these 26 puppies right now (and we pray another rescue can step in), we hope that with your support, we can help more like them in the future.
