Harlequin House—Parti Poodles

My first Poodle was advertised as a Harlequin Poodle (now referred to as a Parti) and I had never heard of them, this led me to research the poodle and its origins, on learning they were the original Poodle and how they had been culled and shunned, for close on 6 centuries, I had to have her (Missy) and have been besotted with the Poodle ever since.

The only thing that separates a Parti from any other Poodle is the colour gene….they are all Poodles.

I began breeding when she was 3 years old, I only have the one girl at the moment, so litters have been around 18 months apart, I don’t run a Kennel my puppies are bred in the home with the family and I am very selective about who I sell my puppies too. Becoming a Parti Poodle breeder has been challenging and a huge learning curve, the one thing I have learned, is the need to follow the ANKC Guidelines and Standards and to have complete transparency in every aspect of my breeding program. This has not been easy, there is little support for Parti Poodle breeders, as we are deemed backyard breeders and discredited by many registered breeders (we can only register on a limited ANKC register and cannot show or breed if we do).

Anyone can come to my home (not just buyers) to see how my puppies are raised and cared for, all of my buyers get copies of the Parents DNA results (with non-relevant details blacked out and lines through the center of the page, to stop piracy), they’re vet checked, vaccinated and microchipped, you get a puppy pack, with a booklet containing photos of mum and dad and a baby picture, feeding, grooming and toilet training tips, a list of foods they can and can’t eat, and information on the origins of the Poodle. They start their training early with an introduction to water (feet and bums only, to start), noise (electric toothbrush, vacuum etc.), brushes, and are pen trained, for their home trip, and they’re also taught to self soothe. I do this by not looking at them when I pass their pen and not handling them or feeding them until they quieten down..it works, they soon learn...they’re Poodles remember, highly intelligent and quick to learn.
