Handsome River sporting the new Mathew Murray saddle! 🧡

I purchased this as my other (supposedly good brand/maker) was very poorly made, not even meeting my custom specifications and didn't fit anything other then Flyn (whom it didn't even fit well). So I moved back to the reliablely well built and beautifully made Riverina Saddlery (Mathew Murray) saddle ☺️

Highly recommend for anyone looking into getting a good work or pleasure saddle that is comfortable and very good on the horses.

Announcement!
Please read the full post.

I have been thinking long and hard about this decision, and have concluded I will be deleting this page.
Training horses is still my passion, but doing so under a business name or as a business does not resonate with me. Keeping up with posts and all the modern day media updates is not where my focus lies. I often forget such things when getting into working with the horses. 🤎

For those of you who would love me to start and educate your young horses, I am still doing this! But just as me. ☺️
Regularly/weekly updates are provided. Great services still offered. Wonderful references available if required.

If you may wish to contact me about training and education services in the future, please feel free to save my details:

Wishing you all the best weekend!

However I'll take a few scratches and happy, content horses over pristine and anxious equines any day!

Back to some early morning rides on pretty horses with my experienced friend 🖤
There's a bit more colour in the paddock at the moment other then the usual chestnuts and bays. (I do love my chestnuts and bay!)

Loui (left) is getting miles and I'm happy with the progress he's made in confidence and learning how to self-regulate.
Spirit (right) is being re-homed and in the meantime gets to come out for the occasional trail rides.

The perfect way to end a day 🖤

Louis is a gorgeous Gypsy Cob x who is just having a bit of consistent time and miles.
To say I'm pleased with the apparent improvements is almost an understatement. He's gone from short, shallow breathing just being lead out of the paddock to not even flaring a nostril at something new during an evening session in the fog. What a champ!

It's always exciting seeing their confidence grow and I'm really enjoying getting to spend time with this cool dude! Thanks Amy xx

The difference 3½ short weeks of tlc and good nutrition makes.

Took Murray and River for a walk up bush today. Murray is extremely confident and keen. He was almost leading the way. Lol. Can't wait to start working with him!

There is a new face on the block I haven't introduced yet.

This is Murray (Aroymez Tomahawk), a 3yo Australian stockhorse gelding.
Murray is a sweet, affectionate, cheeky little character with such a sensible mind. He has natural athletic abilities and I've watched him spin on a dime just in paddock antics.

Needless to say he's already stealing hearts and once he's enjoyed some much needed tlc, will be started under saddle, with a very bright future ahead of him! 🧡

Elina went to her new home with Abby this weekend and I've been told she was completely stress free and settled right in! ☺️

On the trip (5+hrs on the road) she was super relaxed, happily picking at her hay the whole way there. We did have to get out at a servo to swap floats due to a brake malfunction and getting onto the noisy hire float with traffic around was a challenge for her. However we finished on an awesome note and she didn't hesitate to walk straight onto Abby's float when we got to the meeting spot.

They have a great future ahead doing Cowhorse events and who knows what else! I wish them all the best 🥰

Spirit is home and took no time to settle in. He barely looked at the other horses, no running around or calling out. This cool gent simply rolled and got into grazing and glaring at the flies around his feet.

I'll be doing some work with Spirit till he finds the perfect home. This stunner is for sale to the best home and will make someone very happy.

How sweet is this little fella!

Spirit will be available for viewing at our place in six weeks time.
He's a beautiful 14.2hh American Paint gelding who I'll be selling on behalf of a friend.

Spirit is a 16yo, yet don't let his mid teens fool you. He is a forward horse who could go all day and has a good stop. He has been primarily ridden out on trails along road and up bush.
You can take him out alone or in a group and it doesn't matter where he is in a group. Spirit is used to a wide range of wildlife, fam animals, traffic and the like.
Please pm for further information.

I don’t know who needs to hear this…

…but STOP using an opening or leading rein, and then being surprised when the horse falls to the inside.

That’s literally its natural mechanical effect.

The opening rein is not a bending rein, it’s a rein the shoulders are MEANT to follow, whether to the inside or outside.

An inside opening rein will cancel any bend it creates as the shoulder comes through, so you’ll have to keep reapplying it.

If you find yourself constantly having to use more and more inside leg, this might be the culprit.

Historically, there are AT LEAST 5 rein aids.
Learn them all so you can use them all. Intentionally.

A bending rein aid like the Indirect Rein of Opposition in Front of the Withers will do its job with you merely positioning from neutral. That’s the beauty of the ‘fixed hand.’

Don’t forget to ‘test your slack’ and momentarily lower your hand or push your hand up the neck (descente de main or uberstreichen) to make sure you’re not holding them in the bend.

*It’s me. I need to hear it. Over and over again. Ad infinitum.

At some point, I would like to touch on the difference between a pulling opening rein, and an opening rein that’s a pre-signal, but that’s a different post for a different time.

Whilst I was working in SA I learned so many invaluable new skills and had the chance to improve my horsemanship and cattle handling so much more. Now back in the Valley I am available again for starting and educating young horses!

𝑇ℎ𝑒𝑠𝑒 𝑏𝑜𝑦𝑠 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑡ℎ𝑒 ℎ𝑜𝑟𝑠𝑒𝑠 𝐼 𝑛𝑒𝑒𝑑 🧡

We can be so focused at times on 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.
Perfecting our groundwork.
Perfecting our riding.
Perfecting our horse's self carriage.
Finding the 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵 breeding.
Doing the perfect cut-out or run.
Looking perfect.

Need I go on?
It's exhausting.
I've been there.. I'm somewhat of a perfectionist.
But what about enjoyment and 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨?!

Enjoying the moments of teaching when your horse is figuring their way through the problem till they get the answer right.
Enjoying the feeback they give you along the way cause their answers aren't always wrong. Sometimes our ques are.
Enjoying their perfect imperfections that speak of a life 𝐿𝐼𝑉𝐸𝐷 to the fullest.
Enjoying the journey of learning your sport and profession alongside them! For me it is Drafting and stockwork. Each run you improve somewhere and it gets you excited for the day it all comes together in one near perfect run!!

I love pausing to enjoy moments like these where the air is 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝑠ℎ the warm sun is casting it's golden light in the late afternoon and your two 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵 horses run, leap and play because they feel so good. I would love to know what the happiness they experience 𝑓𝑒𝑒𝑙𝑠 like because it looks so freeing.
Actually I'm sure in a number of special moments I have.
It's an experience only of God
