We went for a walk today and it was good to see our neighbourhood commemorating ANZAC day 2022. A day of remembrance for service men and women who bravely helped defend mainland Australia in WWI. It’s also a special day of recognition for those who continue to serve.

Which medical practitioner is a vet most similar to?
Well, the answer is of course open to debate and it is dependant on personal opinion….
One opinion is that both a veterinarian and a paediatrician treat patients who are not able to talk. That makes them similar in many respects. Not being able to communicate with a patient brings an interesting dynamic to a Dr-patient interaction and work up.

Sinus arrhythmia actually doesn’t have anything to do with your pets nasal cavity and sinuses…. Rather, it’s the irregular beating of the heart❤️ .
It beats slightly faster🐇as your dog inhales and slightly slower🐢as they breath out. This a totally normal physiological finding.
It’s best noticed using a stethoscope but you could also pick it up by listening to your pets heart with your ear on their chest wall or by feeling their pulse.

We’re all aware of people wetting the bed, but is it possible for pets to wet the bed?
Yes it certainly is possible. There are a number of different reasons why that could be the case… some could be behavioural, some could be medical reasons.
It is possible for example for desexed/spayed female dogs to develop urinary incontinence due to a weakened urethral sphincter which typically results in urine dribbling during sleep.
If your pet happens to wet the bed frequently then have them seen to by your vet so they can determine the best solution for your furry friend.

Fun and mental stimulation for your dog in everyday life can be a reality with the BUSTER ActivityMat. Not only do you get a range of challenges, but you can vary the difficulty of each challenge and play over and over again.
The basic BUSTER ActivityMat has 35 press studs placed 10 cm apart. You can attach different tasks to the mat, most of them with varying levels of difficulty depending on whether you fold the tasks or leave them open. The mat fits a different range of tasks, depending on the size of the individual task. This gives you the opportunity to have more tasks for your dog. The starter set contains a carrier bag with a basic mat and 3 activities:
1. The envelope
2. The water lily
3. The cone cloth

Ever wondered how much your dog wee’s? ….. Well if you’ve ever mopped up an accident wee indoors then you may have wondered how much volume there was.🐕🐶
Well, a dogs bladder can hold roughly 100mL per 5kg body weight…. That’s right the bigger the dog, the more urine… makes sense.
The amount of wee your dog urinates will of course also depend on how full their bladder was initially. If they are a male lifting their leg on every pole in the neighbouring then they may only have a few drops available💦😂

We’ve observed our pets going to the toilet, but have you ever wondered where the urine comes from?
Well, the question in this weeks Tail Trivia is “what makes up the 4 parts of our pets urinary tract?”💦
The answer is:
▶️ the kidneys - filters the blood to produce urine
▶️ the ureters - transfers urine away from the kidney and into….
▶️ the bladder - stores the urine for an “appropriate time”
▶️ the urethra - allows the urine to pass from the balder and out of the gender appropriate bits - depending on if it’s a her or him😄
