It makes me so sad that Ally still hasn’t found a home 😢 She came into foster care over 2 years ago after her human passed away and has been living in one room ever since as one of the other cats in her foster home makes her nervous. She’s so sweet and gentle and just wants to love and be loved.
If you know someone in need of a wonderful companion please get them to check out her profile on pet rescue and put in an application https://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/877190

This is Jag.

Jag is 19yo and stayed with me for 9 nights over New Years. He suffered a stroke about 8 years ago which, combined with his arthritis makes him a bit weak and wobbly, often walking in circles. He also wears a nappy as he has trouble with litter trays.

In the week leading up to Jag’s stay his mum had trouble getting him to eat, drink and toilet and he was getting very dehydrated. In the 10 days he was with me we had 3 vet visits for subcutaneous fluids. He was fed small amounts constantly through the day and night, had his water refreshed multiple times throughout the day, was given various supplements day and night. He was fed whatever I could get him to eat, his favourite being royal canin mother and baby mousse and chicken flavoured fancy feast savoury centres from my own stash. Which of course got him toileting and improved his hydration! Baby mousse is miraculous stuff 😉

Over the space of a week, Jag gained 180g, which may not seem like much until you consider he weighed only 2.3kg at our first weigh in. That was a lot for a wee boy to gain in such a short time! By the time his mum returned he only needed 1 vet visit a week for fluids instead of 2 😊

Due to the nappies and toileting issues, Jag could get quite messy so he had a few “showers” whilst here to clean him up properly and get him smelling nice. On those occasions I’d take him outside for nappy free time to dry out in the sun. As you know, I’m an indoor only girl when it comes to cats, unless they have a secure enclosure or leash trained. But in Jag’s case this wasn’t a concern as his arthritis prevented him getting too far - he can’t run or jump or climb and his reflexes are slow. Jag loved being outdoors “chasing” butterflies, toileting in the grass and just slowly exploring in the sun with the breeze in his whiskers 😻

Jag is a very special old man and his mum, who was so worried about leaving him, was so thankful for the care he received here. And I enjoyed flexing my complex care muscles after so long with no high needs fosters 😊 It reminded me that I really was a good foster carer and just how many lives were saved because of my efforts and those of other foster carers. Having said that, I was also glad to give him back and catch up on sleep when he left, even though I missed him 🤣

I’m grateful for the opportunity to care for Jag while his mum was away. I was apprehensive when I first spoke with his mum. Not because I was worried about whether I could care for him well, but about whether I was ready for another complex case after being completely drained by Garfie’s care and the trauma of his passing. But I told myself it was unlikely his mum could find another sitter with the skills and experience needed at such short notice and this boy needed me. There’s not a lot of pet minders who have the knowledge or time to commit to such a high needs cat so I’m glad I was in a position to step in and so glad I did. His mum still gives me updates on how Jag is doing and I’ve helped her get her hands on his favourite food when he was being fussy again. Jag, like many before him has touched my soul and in the process provided me with a new friend in his mum ❤️

I have looked after this little girl a few times over the last couple of months, with her mum being a repeat client. For the most part I don’t even see her, just hear her bell jingling while she finds a secure hiding spot. Only once have I caught sight of her when she greeted me with a hiss and a growl then played a little game where she would hide around the corner then stick her head out to suss me out 🤣 And that’s ok. As much as I’d love to see her every time and give her a pat, I respect her boundaries. She doesn’t know me - I’m just a stranger coming in to her home and when I leave she magically has fresh food and water to sustain her for a couple more days.

Not every cat loves strangers. Some don’t even really love the humans who live with them. But they all deserve to be loved and cared for, even if only from afar.

I look forward to more visits in the coming months with this pretty girl ❤️

⛔️Urgent Home Needed for Bowie⛔️

we are in need of a very special and super cat-savvy person who is willing to give our big boy Bowie a chance.

Bowie was first surrendered to Blue Cross in December of 2020. Between then and now, he has been adopted and returned to us not one, but two times due to his temperamental behaviour. Had he been at any other shelter, we’re sure he wouldn’t have been given a third chance, but we held onto hope that there was someone out there who would love Bowie for who he is, attitude and all.

Since being returned the second time, Bowie has been at the shelter for well over a year, but in total, has been in a shelter for roughly 765 days of his life.

Though we do our best, shelters are not designed for animals to stay such lengthy periods of time, and we are concerned about Bowie’s quality of life the longer he is here.

This big, beautiful boy can be quite social when it’s on his terms, and quite often enjoys sitting on your knee and having some pats.
Despite being a big tough boy, Bowie is actually quite timid of unfamiliar noises and environments, which can cause him to be a bit on-edge. It’s that relatively small percentage of the time where he’s feeling a bit uncertain (or just in a bad mood) that his attitude comes out, and he can be a bit intimidating to some people.

Though he makes his displeasure known, it’s mostly just a lot of noise - warning you that he’s not in the mood - that generally doesn’t go beyond a swipe if you don’t listen to him.

He really needs someone who isn’t going to be put off by his attitude, and will be able to get to know him and understand when to give him space. Ideally, he would enjoy having access to a secure outdoor area and a home where he can have his own space and come to you for company when he feels like it.

Bowie will need a home with only adults and no other pets.

If you think you have the guts to give Bowie the best chance at a happy life, please give us a call on 9722 1265 to book an appointment to meet him.

Hello friends!
I now have a flyer for my pet minding services and wondered whether any of you would like me to send you the pdf version to print & leave at your workplace, give to customers/ friends/ clients or put in your rescue adoption packs? It would help me a lot and I’d be very grateful 😊
Please and thank you.
I also have a template for business cards if anyone knows of the best place to get these printed cheaply?

Willow
Foster to adopt
Willow is a sweet 1 year old who is a darling girl that needs a foster to adopt home. She is friendly and likes other cats but is on the quiet side and needs time and love to show her true self. She needs a home that is going to show her that she can just be and her people understand that and will love her regardless! She won’t jump in your lap straight away but with treats, love and patience she most certainly will warm up and trust that the world is ok for her to relax. Willow loves catnip and will roll over her bed and show her belly to you for pats. She would do well in a home with another gentle cat or kitten! Or by herself. She is ok with dogs but they need to be not bothered by a cat’s presence. Teenage kids are best or those that know she doesn’t want to be picked up constantly but rather patted and fed a treat in a calm manner.

Foster to adopt means that you would apply to foster this girl with a view to adopt. Meow rescue cover food and vet bills as needed during her foster placement.

That is not my cat 🤣
We have made a new friend today! Havi and I went outside to do her afternoon physio and found Finley kissing Rika through the cat enclosure. I was so confused. He looks so much like Larry, who’s been chilling out of sight all day. I was trying to work out how he’d got outside! 🤣
Finley’s having lots of fun hunting bugs, visiting my cats and distracting Havi from her physio with lots of plays and smooches 🤣

Havi has been so excited that we have a new house guest 🥰 Today he finally came up to the gate to meet her and she REALLY wanted to go in and give him a proper welcome 🤣 She’s a bit too boisterous for this little old man though so gate time meet cutes only

Those lazy post Christmas feels 🥱

We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas with friends & family and your fur babies were spoilt rotten 😻

I’ve been checking in on a few feline friends this Christmas while their families are away and we’re expecting our first house guest tomorrow! 19yo Jag will be staying with us over the New Year period and I suspect Rika will take him under her wing to help mummy with her nursing skills ❤️

I do still have limited availability for house visits to care for your pets over New Years and I am taking bookings for cat boarding from Jan 9 onward. I’ll put the link to my Mad Paws profile in the comments. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions!

Oh Marigold, you really do try ❤️

Marigold has been with me for over a year now and has been looking for a home since January. Unfortunately for her, the resident demon Molly T**s just doesn’t like her. It’s not personal. Molly just likes to think that she’s the queen of the house (she’s not. Rosie is 🤣) so takes offence to adult female intruders. As a result, she harasses her almost constantly- stalking her and trying to intimidate her. Marigold stands up for herself, but she never stops trying to prove that she’s friend, not foe. She gives her the slow blinks and shows her tummy. Molly is just stubborn and refuses to like her 🙄

To give her some peace and quiet, Marigold is often allowed to just chill in my bedroom and sleeps with me almost every night. She tolerates the dogs but let’s them know who’s boss. She’s so wonderful with old man Vic and corrects Larry when he needs discipline 🤣

Marigold really is the most perfect companion. She’s independent enough to entertain herself and doze during the day, but also loves her cuddles. And she’s so funny! If I could keep her forever I would, but she deserves better.

If you’re in need of a very best friend, please check out her petrescue profile and apply to adopt. https://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/951440

The Cat’s Mother, foster carer for little bundles of fluff

Hello and thanks for stopping by!

I am a foster carer for little bundles of fluff, otherwise known as kittens, in the South East Suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. Whilst I go by the name of “Aunty” to my fosterlings, and “Mum” to my own feline babies, I couldn’t go past the in-joke between me and my work colleagues when naming this page!

I’ve created the page as a bit of fun so I can stop bombarding my Facebook friends with posts about my fosterlings, and to hopefully break the tedium of isolation during the days of COVID-19. Besides giving you all the opportunity to follow the journey of my little visitors, this page will hopefully raise awareness about the need to desex our pets and responsible pet ownership, and help to find my fosterlings loving forever families. I will also share posts from various rescues to help other pets find forever homes.

I am currently a foster carer for Meow Rescue. Please stop by their page and give them some love.
