👉🏼Does your dog pull on the lead?

👉🏼Tried various tricks & nothing works?

👉🏼Did you know that your dog needs you to TEACH them HOW to walk nicely on a lead?

👉🏼Dogs aren’t born understanding how to walk on a lead any more than we are born knowing how to drive a car

👉🏼There are steps involved if you want success

When you set your ego aside, when you remove your need for success & achievement, when you humble yourself & leave behind your own needs, a beautiful thing happens.

You have the ability to truly connect & deeply understand.

You can see another soul for who they really are & how they exist in the world.

Your own needs don’t seem as paramount or vital.

Your need for validation no longer exists & a veil is removed from your eyes.

That’s what this girl did for me & her very existence changed me on a deeper level than I know how to write here.

Today would have been her birthday. I will be forever grateful for all she taught me.

This page exists purely because of her.

Please lay down all the good dog/bad dog stuff.

Please just help them through this journey. It’s way too short.

Happy Heavenly Birthday Miss Phili💔🙏🏼

If this is the first day of the year, it’s going to be a good year!

Received this in my inbox today😊

Absolute pleasure helping reactive, triggered dog owners learn how to help them through life. Nothing brings me more joy🌟

Does your dog have a hard time managing their triggers? How do you support them?

Thank you so much for the feedback

Ever wondered why your dog doesn’t come when called?🤷🏼‍♀️

Experienced that embarrassed frustration on the beach or at the park when your dog’s behaviour makes you want to crawl under the nearest rock? 😩

Tried a few training sessions & given up, resigning your dog to a life of being on the leash?☹️

This course is for YOU🫵🏼

Ok part 2 (if you’re playing along part 1 was last week)

Positive methods - why do we use them? And more importantly, how do we use them?

Making your dog rely on food to do anything & not actually TEACHING them, will result in failure

There is a method to reward based training & it’s not as simple as a sentence or two posted here, but my best tip is this - use the food as a REWARD more than a LURE

If that’s not doing the trick, it’s worth considering these (in addition to those posted last week)

Who decides what is good?

How is good defined?

If your dog has some behavioral challenges & you are DOING THE WORK, be kind to yourself!🫶🏼

Don’t allow your fear of judgement of others to define how you feel about your dog💔

Our dogs have no idea whatsoever of what it means to be “good”

They’re just busy BEING DOGS!

Their behaviour isn’t trying to achieve good bad or anything in between

They just want their needs met

And as dog guardians, that’s all we should want too

Positive training methods are the only way to ensure your dog has a fear-free and force-free environment in which to learn❣️

There are many other reasons your dog may be struggling with training sessions, but these are usually the first ones I look at

The others we will delve into in another post but please reach out if you need to ask!

What are your training challenges?

Worth another share I think

These behaviours are COMMUNICATION

NEVER PUNISH A GROWL

Listen when your dog communicates

Don’t make them yell

It’s so frustrating to see people giving incorrect ’advice’ to others who are genuinely looking for help.

If you see these myths being handed around, they are not interested in force & fear free training methods.

Our dogs are not objects that require controlling. They need our support, kindness & patience to adjust to living with another species!

🌟Tethering.

🌟Not something I’m a huge fan of to be honest.

🌟Especially if your dog can’t see you & you can’t see them. 👀

🌟There are so many safety issues & things that can go wrong.

🌟However it’s a handy exercise to practice at home or out on your walk.

🌟It teaches your dog that it’s ok for you to be a little distance away & the world won’t fall apart, particularly if you’re in an emergency situation.

🌟Use a clear word (stay) & return regularly to reward & praise.

🌟Never do this if your dog is uncomfortable with it & remember distance matters.

🌟Always make sure there’s eye contact.

If you’re a pet owner just looking for ways to manage every day interactions with your dog, this is for you!

Many dog owners are busy balancing work, family, and life in general, and are really looking for simple ways to help their dog’s behaviour in this context.

So with that in mind, I would like to introduce this suite of short courses.

Comprehensive step by step support for you and your dog addressing many of the challenges you’re facing.

Topics include loose lead walking, recalls, understanding our dog’s communication, and unpacking why our dogs sometimes don’t listen to us!

All topics form a solid foundation to setting up your relationship and your dog for success 💥

👉🏼Meet your dog where they’re at

👉🏼Your dog will never be perfectly behaved because he’s a living breathing creature

👉🏼So just consider the dog in front of you

👉🏼No comparisons with other dogs or dog owners

👉🏼Forget others opinions - they’re not living with your dog

Although rawhide chews come in lots of fun shapes and sizes, your dog can easily chew off and swallow large pieces, leading to a potential choking hazard or intestinal obstruction. What’s even worse is how rawhide is created. Rawhide is a by-product of the leather industry and is often washed and sterilized with a variety of (often harmful) chemicals, such as sodium sulfide, lime, chromium salts, bleach, and hydrogen peroxide. It is then molded and dyed to form what you see in stores today.
Please avoid them at all cost, no matter how pretty they market them!

Now before anyone gets upset with me💋

All I’m saying is, we know if our dogs are extremely ball oriented, they will stop at nothing to get that ball right?🎾

No matter where it’s thrown

Imagine a few dogs sniffing around the rocks at the beach minding their own business, & next thing, INCOMING!!

Another dog comes crashing into the party

What’s the likely outcome here?

👉🏼Well, there’s a few

A fight. Obviously.

But also, most definitely some kind of injury where bodies are slamming into one another😢

Either way it’s ugly, distressing, painful & will likely not end well for anyone💔

Start the habit of taking in your surroundings before you throw🙏🏼

Public spaces are for everyone to enjoy😊

This is your daily reminder- your reactive dog is not GIVING YOU a hard time, they’re HAVING a hard time!
💓Always be compassionate & empathetic
💓Never punish or chastise
💓Seek professional advice from an experienced trainer
💓Be prepared to put things in place & make changes to your walking and/or training plans
💓Understand that they see everyday things as threats to their wellbeing
💓Most importantly ensure your dog knows you’ve got their back - they can depend on you to keep them safe
