Praetorian Boerboels

Hi everyone,

As I'm sure you all know, life can sometimes throw you some curve balls and this has certainly been the case over here with us over the past few months. For this reason, we were forced to make the difficult decision of re-homing our beloved boy Clay.

He deserves much more than we can offer him here currently so keeping him would not have been the right thing to do for his sake.

Fortunately, we were able to re-home him to Spitfire Boerboels. Clay has sired two past litters there and so he has settled in extremely well with their entire family. You can see some videos/pics of him on their page.

We are still happy to answer any questions regarding your Clay puppies or any breed specific questions and would still love for you to post pics of your 4 legged family members on our page :)

We don't know what the future holds for us with regards to breeding but we have developed a love for this special breed and may one day adopt another into our family.

Just a quick update to say that all Clay x Delta pups have now been sold and are in the process of going out to their new homes.

To those who enquired but were not able to secure a pup, keep an eye out here for any upcoming planned mating's :)

Delta x Clay Puppies

Broady Delta x Red Earth Clay puppies are here!! 😀

They were born Friday 19/11/2021 between 1am and 7am. There are seven pups; 4 males and 3 females. Mum and pups are doing well.

Please contact us if interested in one of these special puppies.

We are excited to announce that Clay will be a daddy again!! It appears that the natural mating with Broady Delta was successful and if all goes well, pups should be born next week.

For those interested in a pup, please feel free to email or message me and I will add you to the waiting list and pass this onto Ben, Delta's owner. I will also provide you with Ben's contact details but as he and his wife are expecting the birth of their next child any day now, it is a pretty hectic time for them and so he might not be very responsive to phone calls.

Delta is a solid and well constructed dog with an absolutely beautiful temperament. As can be seen from her pedigree, she comes from great lines and with Clay as the father, we are expecting healthy, well constructed and athletic pups with gorgeous temperaments suitable to all family types.

P.S. Just adding that Delta looks similar to Luna in some photos so please do not confuse the two :)

Some exciting news for those of you waiting to hear about possible Clay puppies :D I have heard from the owner of the bitch who was left with us back in September and he is confident that the mating was successful ! He is taking her in for an Ultrasound next week and if confirmed pregnant, puppies will be due early to mid November. This is unexpected because as mentioned before, we did not witness a copulatory tie between the two, but slip matings can still occur :)

We will wait for the results of the Ultrasound before posting the Dams pedigree information and her owners contact information here on our page.

News about Luna:
A couple of months ago it was discovered that Luna has elbow dysplasia in both elbows (with a UAP in one) and her hips were found to be below the breed average so we decided to not breed her.

Recently, we found her struggling to get up after resting and then more recently, found that she could not place much weight on her back left leg.

We took her to the Vet and found that she also has hip dysplasia. We advised that we hadn't noticed anything wrong with her hip movement previously but Boerboels are very stoic and grow very quickly and with Luna being so high drive, the effects of the dysplasia were now starting to show. We did notice more aggression towards Clay (she had started some fights with him) and it seems the reason for this was the pain she was feeling.

The Vet presented us with two options:
1) Elbow surgery followed by six weeks rehab. If successful, she would then need hip surgery/hip replacement, however there was no guarantee that this would help her

2) Euthanize her

Whilst discussing these options, the owner of the Veterinary Clinc called us into his office and presented us with a third option:

3) He and his wife just lost their dog of 17 years and have fallen in love with Luna so offered to rehome her with them. They would perform the elbow surgery first and charge it against their clinic. They would then perform the rehab and ensure Luna was rested in-between with no other dogs around (they were concerned about the aggression towards Clay). He advised that he would not let her suffer if the surgery was not successful and would euthanize if required.

We were relieved to be offered this third option as we believe it is the best solution for Luna, for Clay, and for everyone else involved so we agreed to rehome her to the Vet and his wife.

I have recently spoken to the Vet and he has advised that Luna has settled well into her new home. She is currently on some medication and will be undergoing surgery on her elbows very soon.

We have had quite a few enquiries about any upcoming Clay puppies so thought we would let everyone know that there are plans for a mating real soon ... fingers crossed, this should be happening in the next week or two 🤞 Will keep you all posted 😀
