WHAT IS EFFECTIVE CONTROL!
In dogs parks or pff lead dog areas, if you want to let your dog off lead, you must have them under effective control. This law is to ensure that everyone and their dogs can enjoy these areas safely.
How I walk and train my puppy Odin 9 months old yesterday. This is a clip from last week our and reflects a typical enrichment activity. Lots of reinforcement for Odin making good choices, lots of sniffing and freedom off lead. We have been doing these walks since he was 9weeks old, so he has learned making good choices (staying close to me, checking in, not chasing birds),is highly rewarding, whether it be food, sniffing, praise or running freely. I have spent hours playing, training, snuggling, and basically bonding with all my dogs to build a strong connection, so they choose to listen and hang out with me. #sniffk9 #CCDalsDevineODINKINGOFHEARTS #dogrraininghobart #puppytraininghobart
A relaxed off lead training walk with Odin (5.5mths old). Such a sweet puppy. #CcdalsDevineODINKINGOFHEARTS #puppysocialisationhobart #sniffk9 #sniffk9coachhobart
One of my early puppy show training sessions with Odin. I am reinforcing him for mirroring my movement to get him standing square. As this is an early session there are ample opportunities for reinforcement and lots of breaks along the way. It doesn't have to be perfect, he just has to try. I thought he did a brilliantly. He is one clever boy!

I was so pleased with Nimbus and my team work in this Excellent Exterior(1st plc)search last Saturday at the Ulverstone SW trial. I had my search plan and stuck to it,(a big take away from Rob Hewimgs and Karen Caton-Hewings Tassie Workshop) while still allowing Nimbus to follow edges of odour. You can see she does need to check outside of the search area to pinpoint target odour. But I also direct her at moments to make sure nothing is missed.

A short lead training session for Odin while we were out and about. I have done a few sessions at home and he has been conditioned to understand a marker. Either the word 'Yes' and a clicker. Here I am using 'yes' and am marking any behaviours that I like. Some in this clip are, following my hand which will have the lead in it when we show, responding to his name when a little distracted and looking at a dog passing by and not pulling toward it. I try and keep it fun and short, using high value reinforcement, which is cooked chicken.
Some morning enrichment for Odin. I am helping him learn how to use a Kong TM.
Part 2 of training session with Odin.
Odin's lunch time training session. He is learning to free stack and to follow me (the start of loose lead walking). I am mixing reinfocers, as we are still working out what reinforcement works best in different environments. This session was a little long , but adding in the toy for the the last couple of minutes really made it fun and it definitely was higher value than the food. I am not pulling the toy just gentle moving and Odin is following. Never pull tug toys with pups. #devineodinkingofhearts #sniffk9 #puppytraininghobart 0
