The five-second rule is a way to check if the ground is too hot 🥵 for your dog's paws before walking🦮 them outside:
Place the back of your hand 🤚 on the ground where your dog 🐕 will walk
If you can't hold your hand 🤚 there for at least five 5️⃣ seconds, it's too hot 🔥 for your dog
Here are some other tips for keeping your dog cool 😎:
Walk early or late in the day
Stick to shady areas
Find a path along a lake XL or creek
Carry fresh water 💦 with you
Give your dog plenty of drink breaks
Monitor your dog for signs of heatstroke
Puppies 🐶 are especially susceptible to damaged paw 🐾 pads because their paws have a less protective layer of skin.

☀️ Beat the Heat! Keep Your Pets Cool This Summer 🐾

Looking after your furry (or scaly!) friends during a heatwave is super important. Here are some simple ways to help them stay cool and comfy:

🐕 Dogs:
• Let them splash in a kiddie pool or lay on a cooling mat.
• Wet their fur gently to cool them down.
• Take walks early in the morning or late evening when it’s cooler.

🐱 Cats:
• Keep them in the shade or near a fan.
• Wipe their paws and ears with a damp cloth to help them cool off.

🐰 Small Pets:
• Place frozen water bottles wrapped in towels near their space.
• Add cool tiles to their enclosure for lounging.

🦎 Reptiles:
• Make sure enclosures are well-ventilated and not too hot.
• Lightly mist their habitat for a cooling boost.

🐦 Birds:
• Use a light mist spray on their feathers.
• Keep their cage out of direct sunlight and in a breezy spot.

💧 ALL Pets:
• Fresh, cool water is a must—add ice cubes for extra chill!
• Avoid hot surfaces like pavements that can burn their paws.

⚠️ Watch for these danger signs:
Excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, red or pale gums, or vomiting. If you notice these, contact your vet immediately.
