☀️ KEEPING YOUR PETS HAPPY & HEALTHY DURING HOT WEATHER ☀️

During times of hot weather and heatwaves it is important your pets have have somewhere cool to retreat to. Unless owners take the necessary precautions, pets can rapidly suffer from heat stroke and even die on very hot days.

🔴 Tips for keeping your pet safe on hot days 🔴

🐾 Never leave your animals in a vehicle – even with the windows open. A parked car is like an oven and temperatures can reach extreme levels in just a short period of time leading to fatal heat stroke.

🐾 Pets can get dehydrated quickly – have plenty of fresh, clean water available. Make sure your pets have a shady place to get out of the sun, be careful not to over-exercise them, and keep them indoors when it’s extremely hot.

🐾 Know the symptoms of overheating in pets – including excessive panting, drooling, difficulty breathing, mild weakness, vomiting, or even collapse. Animals with flat faces are more susceptible to heat stroke.

🐾 If you can’t be home seek alternative arrangements – ask your neighbour or a family member to mind your pet. If your pet is home alone, where possible, leaving the air-conditioning or fans on in the house will help to keep pets cool.

🐾 Don't leave pets unsupervised around a pool or at the beach – not all dogs are good swimmers so ensure you introduce your pets to water gradually and make sure they wear flotation devices when on boats.

🐾 Don’t let your pets linger on hot pavements – when the temperature is very high and being so close to the ground, your pooch’s body can heat up quickly. Their sensitive paw pads can burn so keep dog walks during these times to a minimum.

🐾 Paws at the Park has been a long term supporter of AWLQ across it's 8 years of operation and we are looking forward to being back again this Saturday at the iconic Gold Coast event. 🐾

With a huge variety of stalls, food trucks, stage events, major raffle draw and the very popular doggy hydration station, make sure you pop in and say Hello to our team at our Animal Welfare League Queensland stall.

With proceeds of the Major Raffle and carparking being donated directly to the charity, this day is a wonderful community event celebrating all things paws and this being the last year of Paws at the Park under the original hosts, we sure it will be an extra event for all.

For more information, check out the Paws At the Park event page and we will see you there! https://www.facebook.com/events/1565375517720689

🕷️🐾 Tick Paralysis Awareness: Keep Your Pets Safe with Consistent Prevention! 🐾🕷️

Meet Skylah, our courageous Border Collie pup who recently battled severe tick paralysis. 😢 Her case was so critical (Stage 3A/B) that she required over a week of intensive care at our Community Vet Clinics. Thankfully, Skylah is now recovering well, but her journey was a tough one. 🌟

With the warmer weather upon us, we're seeing a spike in tick cases at our Community Vet Clinics, but ticks are a year-round threat, especially here in SE Queensland. To protect your furry friends, it’s crucial to maintain consistent tick prevention measures for both cats and dogs.

✅ Stay Consistent: Apply tick prevention treatments every 30 days. Do not miss or delay a treatment.
✅ Act Fast: If you find a tick or suspect your pet has ticks, get them to a vet immediately. Early intervention is crucial as symptoms can escalate quickly.
✅ Protect All Pets: Cats aren’t immune—ticks can hitch a ride on dogs or come in from the outdoors. Ensure your cats are on tick prevention too!

Prevention is the best defence against tick-borne diseases. With proper tick prevention, your pets are less likely to suffer serious health issues from tick bites. 🐾💪
