2024 will be the start of a new exciting chapter for Kaizen Horsemanship.
With the property (that we leased) being sold, we move on to greener pastures. Closer to our home and with a view to die for. We will still be in Scone and still run our business as usual, just with a new setup.

To all our clients and everyone who had continued to support us a very merry Christmas and a wonderful new year!
We’ve had a very special year breaking in some lovely horses, having Rosa join Kaizen Horsemanship fulltime and of course welcoming our new member of the team Bodhi.
We’re looking forward to our first Christmas together as a family and will be back in full force in the new year!

A win for the locals after Tracey Bartley Racing's Lady Superspy upsets some of the more favoured runners to take out the Drew Chivas Memorial Class 1 over 1600m 👌

Due to my maternity leave approaching fast we are looking for someone to help us out with the business!
We are a small professional breaking in and pre training business just outside of Scone in the Hunter Valley.
The job would consist of:
🐴 Mucking out boxes
🐴 Riding our lovely lead horse Buddy alongside our breakers
🐴 Holding for the farrier and dentist
🐴 General horse handeling

We would offer:
🐴 Very flexible working hours, only a few hours a day
🐴 A kind and friendly working atmosphere
🐴 Hourly pay
🐴 Weekends off

We are looking for someone that is:
🐴 Responsible and reliable
🐴 Confident handeling young horses
🐴 A skilled rider
🐴 Local to Scone or surroundings as we do not offer accommodation

Today was a flatwork day for this Maryore/Epaulette c**t. It doesn’t only teach him a good foundation that will help him understand how to best carry himself and his future riders, but also brings a bit of variety into his training schedule.
This Mullaglass Stud c**t will continue on to Portelli Racing when he’s done with our program just like his sister did.

Second win from 3 starts today for Dazzling Lucy, very exciting seeing this filly’s career developing. Lucy was broken in and pre-trained by us.

Thought of the day💡

It has been said that in today’s age, (the Information age) ignorance is a choice.

There is a wealth of knowledge readily available to whom ever will listen and learn. I count myself fortunate to be able to access knowledge shared by horsemen & women all over the world via Facebook, YouTube, podcasts, etc and to be able to experiment with those ideas in my daily work.
One of these ideas for example that has changed my perspective is the way I introduce ‘scary’ objects to horses. I am no longer looking for the horse to stand and accept the objects. This sometimes (not always) can leave a horse tolerating without him feeling very happy about it.
I find that if you can create interest in the object by letting them sniff or even chew it and approach and retreat, they are much less likely to react with a fight, flight or freeze response. Also if you stay below threshold you are more likely to gain the horses trust in your judgement and develop confidence.
This horsemanship journey is one filled with lessons. One which I love and have committed my life to. Everyday is a chance to grow and progress, and for that I am very grateful to all the good horse people that share their knowledge/experiences and all the horses I get to learn from every day.

After a nice Christmas break we’re back in full swing with a barn full of horses.
At the moment we have horses at all different stages of their career. There are pre-trainers that have returned after a spell, breakers that have come from the Classic sale and yearlings in prep for an upcoming sale.
We will have some spots in our barn available soon, so if you’re looking to get your horse educated don’t hesitate to send us a message!

With the last pre trainer having left our barn, we wrap up 2021 and our first year operating as Kaizen Horsemanship. We had a bigger and better year than we could have ever hoped for and would like to thank everyone who has supported us. We’re always striving to constantly improve and next year will be no exception.

One of the things the concept of Kaizen stands for is good change and we wish this is what 2022 will bring for everyone.

Barossa Rosa fought till the end today at Rosehill Gardens in the midway, succeeding in winning the race, setting a new class record and qualifying for the Four Pillars on the 30th of October!
What a horse, we're so proud to have played a small roll in her career.
