🐺 Sunday sunrise hike with my boys
🐺 Each step is a blessing with these 2 by my side @ian_copenhaver
🐺 Building confidence with Shadow the German Shepherd
🐺 Playgrounds are a great place to challenge our dog's mentally and physically.
🐺 Shadow is a very timid dog who lacks confidence out in the world from traffic noise to other dog's.
🐺 Encourage your dog to try new things and challenge them to be better than yesterday.
🐺 Muzzle Conditioning
🐺 Over the weekend, while Roddie has been boarding with us, I have been free-shaping him to the muzzle.
🐺 This is 3 separate sessions over 3 days.
🐺 Free-shaping is a training technique where you allow the dog to make decisions based on when and where they are being rewarded. The dog must think independently and problem solve through the sessions.
🐺 To do this, the dog must have a strong, conditioned reward marker as this is how I communicate the exact moment and behaviour that I am trying to achieve.
🐺 Scent Detection with Mars
🐺 I am preparing for an upcoming scent trial this weekend with Mars.
🐺 Massive shout out to my girl @victron75 for setting up blind searches for me today!
🐺 Day 4 of Freddy's stay-cation here at Wolfpack Headquarters.
🐺 He has been enjoying daily walks, enrichment games, obedience training, play sessions, and plenty of cuddle time on the couch.
🐺 7 days to teach a new behaviour and to go from helping the dog into position to verbal command.
🐺 2 sessions daily of 3 minutes duration.
🐺 The reverse Orbit, what should I teach next?
🐺 Formal Heel Training with "Roddie"
🐺 Rain or shine we out here training!
🐺 Confidence Building with Archer at Bunnings.
🐺 Archer struggles in busy environments with people and / or dogs, so we have been testing out his obedience in these environments. Plus, as a bonus, we found some challenging obstacles to use to build his overall confidence by overcoming his initial fears of them.
🐺 Scent detection with Mars this morning.
🐺 Working on searching while on leash and searching a specific area.
🐺 Did you train with your dog this morning?
Tell me what you're working on in the comments.
🐺 Working on a few things lately with Mars.
The in motion down, formal heel and duration down stay.
🐺 I love this guy, always ready to work and gives 1000% every time.
🐺 Building confidence with the world around them is vital for dog's to develop into resilient members of society. It teaches them how to overcome challenges and problem solve.
🐺 When teaching new behaviours, it takes many repetitions to create clarity and understanding of the behaviour.
🐺 This was a 3 minute clip sped up, I fed Roddie his dinner meal during this training session.
🐺 The (Around) cue is added once Roddie was showing the behaviour without any leash guidance, and while performing the behaviour to begin word association with behaviour.
🐺 Recall Training with "Sage" the Golden Retreiver
🐺 You can see how, in the first 2 repetitions, she hit the end of the long line before returning to me, but in the third repetition, she came on her own without the pressure from the leash.
🐺 It is so important to condition your recall in LOTS of different environments to ensure reliability.
🐺 I am using a 10 meter long-line to give Sage the feeling of being off-leash and to be able to practise recalls from a greater distance.
🐺 Cutting my dog's nails has been an on-going drama that I haven't dedicated the time into addressing, until now.
🐺 It's never too late to train your dog to tolerate grooming.
🐺 Working on Mars's article indication for tracking.
🐺 Tracking is just another great way to teach your dog to utilise their natural ability to follow and track scents and to locate articles along the way.
🐺 Scent Detection line-ups with Mars!
Thanks @victron75 for the set-up
