The secret to clipping your dogs nails at home... keep them busy!!
I often get asked by clients how to get their dog used to having their nails clipped at home. Many dogs can get very stressed and resist their feet being touched entirely. The key is patience, going slow and rewarding your dog for small steps along the way.
A game changer to getting nails trimmed right back (without cutting the quick and risking bleeding!) Is a Dremel, or any electric nail file. This allowed you to safely file back the nail until you reach the quick.
A licky mat smeared with peanut butter is also amazing to keep them busy and distracted while you do your thing!
A spray of our calming spray also helps promote a calm environment for your pet before you begin 🌿

Working on some loose leash walking, engagement and solid foundations with Theo today 🐶 Theo is a wonderful handsome pup who just loves to please. He is quite reactive to dogs around him, so we are working on reducing his reaction around other dogs 🐕
Loose Leash Walking!
Our client reached out as they are having trouble walking their two very excitable dogs together!
Both dogs are usually pulling to the full extension of the lead and sniffing around. To the point they have pulled their owner over!!
Today we focused on laying down the foundations with separate sessions with each dog first, before we worked our way up to practising walking them together like this.
After one lessons today, we have seen significant improvement in their loose leash walking! Next step, keeping this up in a distracting environment and more solo drills!

Nail Clipping
Lets talk Nails! 💅
Lets face it, not all pets sit cooperatively like my dog Titan for their mani pedi.. Believe it or not, but Titan was scared of the noise of the clippers when i got him and he really hated his nails being clipped.
You can see him still displaying some anxious behaviours in this video, such as yawning and lip licking, however this is a HUGE improvement. Desensitisation to this is something we worked on slowly, with the aim to be able to calmly cut his nails in a stress free manner.
If this is something your pet struggles with, i am availble around Gippsland to come and clip your pets nails (This includes dogs, cats, rabbits, birds and guinea pigs, even your bearded dragons' nails!). During this appoitnment i will give you some tips and tricks on how to work with your pet to be able to start cutting your pets nails at home yourself.
