MIGALOO NEEDS A FOSTER TO ADOPT FOREVER HOME ASAP.

Migaloo’s journey has been nothing short of heartbreaking. This sweet boy was cruelly dumped on the side of a road by his first owners. After being abandoned, he endured a brutal multi-dog attack, followed by further cruelty at the hands of humans. Yet despite everything he's been through, Migaloo remains a puppy at heart – affectionate, forgiving, and loyal.

He’s still just a puppy, with a whole life ahead of him, and now he needs a family who will show him the love and care he truly deserves. Migaloo will need someone patient and willing to help him learn the ropes, with some basic training and boundaries to help him grow into the amazing dog he’s meant to be. He’s a big boy, so we recommend a family with children over the age of 10, as he’s still a bit clumsy and learning how to control his playful energy.

Migaloo is ready to be the lovable goofball and best friend you’ve always wanted. He deserves to be surrounded by kindness, patience, and understanding, and with the right family, we know he’ll be the most loyal and fun companion.

If you're ready to take on a puppy who’s been through the worst but still has so much love to give, please consider opening your heart and home to Migaloo. This brave boy is looking for a fresh start and a family who will show him that the world can be kind.

He needs a foster home by Friday latest.

🦸‍♀️ SOME HEROES DONT WEAR CAPES. 🦸‍♀️

Dogs are killed in disturbing number every yesr in Australian pounds, rehoming shelters and even in charities.

No doubt the public will be jaded from seeing back to back "this dog will die by tomorrow" posts but sadly it is in fact the reality rescues face on a day to day basis. We are giving huge tasks with very little time.

Boo was a dog who was out of time but came with 2 mules, a camel and partridge in a pear tree worth of baggage making him VERY difficult to place into foster care. We could let him die or we could beg for help.

In comes Sarah Coye

With a heart full of " # # # # it lets do this" energy, Sarah drove an hour each way to bring Boo to safety, fully aware of the challenges ahead. She didn't have the right set up in regards to fencing but she would rather struggle than see him be killed.

This wasn’t a simple rescue. Boo was a difficult dog, and Sarah knew that taking him in could put her in a compromised position with her own dogs as he was fear reactive but a few days would buy us time.

She put herself in the line of uncertainty, simply because she couldn’t let Boo be another grim statistic.

Boo had already passed the emergency three-day timeframe—but Sarah kept him safe, giving him a chance when no one else could. She arranged for a professional trainer to assess Boo and worked tirelessly to train him herself, helping him overcome his struggles while we waited for the right family to see BooBat signals.

Through her unwavering commitment, Sarah's honest review of Boo reached Shakira and her family. Her efforts not only bought precious time, but they also paved the way for DARE to find Boo the perfect home. Without Sarah's selfless actions, Boo’s story would have ended much differently.

While Australia has so many amazing foster carers who give up their hearts and homes to animals, Heroes like Sarah are rare, and without them, many difficult dogs like Boo would never get the chance to live.

Her love and dedication to saving a life mirrors DARES view on every dog deserves a second chance. Thank you, Sarah, for being the hero Boo needed.

He is now successfully settling in with Shakira under foster to adopt.

❓️WHERE ARE THEY NOW ❓️

Who remembers Pilot?

Pilot came from the Qld / At border from a rural community. He was a street dog which means he had to hunt for his own food and constantly fight other street dogs to survive.

He arrived covered in scars and riddled with scars eyes are not capable of seeing. He needed extensive rehabilitation to fit into suburban life but he was still so full of love.

We didn't think we would ever find someone willing to take him on as he was in care for nearly a year.

We found it in Heather.

Her update says:

" we took on some training to help with his anxiety around unfamiliar dogs The local trainer focuses on building on connection with your dog and confidence in their various environments.

Pilot has developed a meaningful connection with both myself and my husband He is progressing well with confidence around other dogs.

Pilot' s first carers came to visit earlier in the year and I have let Chris (second carer ) up to date with Pilot.

The training has been beneficial for Pilot and ourselves Many thanks for sharing information about Pilot' s background earlier in the year.

We feel that Dare provide a sound rescue service We thank everyone for their support towards rescue dogs " - Heather

Seeing a family commit so much love into a "difficult" dog is truely rewarding for us. Many rescues would have killed Pilot as he's "too hard". Counted him in their end of year tally of dogs taken in but he would have been silently killed with out public knowledge to keep up appearances.

Heather's update has sent positive waves down our spines that we are doing the right thing and we are finding the right homes but most importantly, there ARE good people out there.

Not even 10 swipes on the thumb and my feed is the following:

2 x deceased dogs- both hit by cars
8 x Border collies missing in various regions ( yes 8!! 6 different homes)
2x German shepherds missing
2 x Spaniels missing
1 x bitza missing

All in maybe 3 minutes of scrolling.

" Hi Migaloo here.

I want to wish all the Dare Foster dogs and pups a Happy New Year. Despite what has happened to me, I think we are lucky to have all the wonderful and loving foster carers in DARE.

I can't celebrate tonight as I'm on antibiotics and painkillers but hope you and your fosters have a safe and happy New Year. My emergency foster mum, let me celebrate by giving me damp towel wash.

No more blood and sweat on me, she made me feel so good, she even took my "cone of shame off", but she tells me I haven't done anything to be ashamed of.

Boy, did getting that cone off feel good, and Mum checked all my wounds around my neck while it was off. I didn't want it back on but she insisted.

Afterwards Mum made me a small pen in the kitchen, where I could spread out a bit. It is so hard to fit my body, and my cone comfortably in a crate. However I was safe and calm, I've gotten into the habit of older people.

I have to tell you, my dog pals, living with older people involves eating and napping and eating again. It's sort of like a Dog's Life. There isn't much excitement around here. Very laid back which I needed to help me recover and de-stress.

I'm still very stiff, swollen and sore, but as long as I behave and follow my foster mums orders i should recover. My only complaint is my Mum takes me to the toilet on a lead, doggies really!

Have you ever had to go to toilet with a cone and on a short lead?? Embarrassing!! I'm hoping next New Year my adoption photo will join all the current Dare dogs and pups adoption photos for 2025.

Thank you again Dare Admin and all those wonderful foster carers out there. Hope 2025 will be the year that people are kinder to animals and you can have a bit of a rest."

🩷 Migaloo (with a little help from his foster mum)

🚫FIREWORKS ARE LETHAL FOR PETS AND YOUR WALLET 🚫

As we count down to 2025, let's remember that while fireworks light up the sky but are number 1 cause of pet deaths per holiday.

**1. The Loud Bangs**

Dogs, cats, and even small animals like rabbits often react with fear, trembling, and confusion. Some might bolt straight into traffic or fences.

**2. The Flashing Lights**

Lights can be disorienting and frightening, especially for pets with sensitive vision. Your cat may think it’s an alien spaceship, and your dog might think it's time for a full-on "bark at the moon" moment.

**3. The Unpredictability**

The unpredictability can cause extreme anxiety. Some pets might hide or pace. Others might start acting like they’ve been possessed by an over-caffeinated squirrel. Either way, it's not a good look.

💓WHAT DO YOU DO TO BE RESPONSIBLE 💓

**1. Create a Safe Space**

Think of it like a little pet sanctuary. A quiet room with comfy bedding, familiar smells, and some soothing music (no, not the "Firework" song, please). This gives them a chance to relax in their own little world while the outside world goes nuts.

**2. Use Calming Products**

There are a bunch of calming aids for pets—think of it like a puppy Xanax (without the side effects). ThunderShirts, calming collars, or sprays can work wonders in easing anxiety. And no, they’re not just for storm season; they’re also perfect for fireworks season.

**3. Keep Them Inside!**

If your dog is anything like mine, they think they can outrun a firework. Spoiler alert: they can’t. Keeping pets indoors during the festivities is key. If they’re outside, they might run away, get lost, or accidentally trip over a sparkler (who thought sparkler vs. dog would be a fair match?!).

**4. Distract Them**

If you’ve got a cat, keep them busy with toys or a puzzle feeder. Dogs love treats—so how about a New Year’s Eve snack that’s way more exciting than what’s happening outside? Maybe some *bacon-flavored* celebration?

**5. Don’t Leave Them Alone**

If your pet is scared, they’ll want you around. Try to stay close by during peak firework hours (around 9 PM to 1 AM). You could even have a Netflix marathon with your pet—just make sure it’s something relaxing, like *Planet Earth*, not *The Exorcist*.

❌ DO NOT DO THE FOLLOWING ️❌️

- **Don’t ignore the problem.** If your pet’s afraid, don’t just let them "figure it out." They’re not as emotionally equipped to deal with fireworks as you are.

- **Don’t use human calming products.** As much as you’d love to treat your dog to a chilled glass of wine, it’s best to stick with pet-safe options. (P.S. Please don’t give your pets alcohol. It's a *no-no*.)

- **Don’t leave fireworks near pets.** They’re sparkly, colorful, and dangerous. Keep them out of reach or better yet, leave them to the professionals who are paid to handle explosions.

Happy New Year (to both you and your four-legged sidekicks)! 🎇🐶🐱

🥰LADIES AND GENTLEMAN - BOO IS GOING ON TRIAL TOMORROW FOR A NEW HOME 🥰

We have an amazing couple come forward who lost their border collie this year. Their baby was also dog selective so they are well versed in not only the breed but the effort it requires to train a fear reactive dog like Boo.

To say the miracles are pouring would be an understatement!!

Thank you everyone who did put their hand up, we needed to find the perfect fit and we truely believe Shakira will be!

🖤🧡MASSIVE THANK YOU TO SavourLife 🧡🖤

So those who follow many rescue pages, you will constantly see Savourlife thank you posts for their unwavering support to animal rescues across Australia.

Unfortunately, humans become immune to things they see all the time. You hear about another car accident on the news and you might "that's sad" then go about finishing your sandwich. We are so used to hearing and seeing the same things over and over that we dont realise the value in what we see. We dont do it on purpose, it's how we are conditioned.

In rescue, there is always another dog in a pound.
Always another fundraiser.
Always another "will die if we don't save" post.

What blew us away today was seeing the figures that savourlife posts for their 2024.

These YOU CAN NOT IGNORE. They are absolutely mind blowing.

1 company has single handedly helped animal rescues to this scale when governments give out $0. The difference Savourlife has made i don't think can truely ever be measured just in money value. The reach from there adopt a dog platform is overwhelming. Their food donations ease so much pressure on rescues.
Their grants facilitate so many more being saved. It's actually mind blowing.

So to Savourlife from DARE - WE THANK YOU

🚫✨️ MIGALOO UPDATE ✨️🚫

⚠️ LAST FEW IMAGES ARE GRAPHIC ⚠️

So whilst he was under anesthetic on Saturday, the vet team were able to truely assess the extent of his injuries.

Migaloo sustained more than 40 puncture wounds across his body.
Some on the face, chest, front shoulder, abdomen, testicle and back inner and outer thigh.

While dog fights are accidents, to leave a dog with this many wounds for 6 days to get "revenge" for calling out their lies is beyond barbaric.

Today we have taken out his drain on the back inner thigh and most of the stitches are holding as best as they can given the lack of skin available.

He is still limping on his front leg which xrays ruled our a feature but showed he has muscle damage from a puncture that severed the muscle in the shoulder. That will be his slowest inury to heal but anti-inflammatories and pain relief while in his crate will help it relax to repair.

As both his foster mum and vet said have said, despite the severity of the wounds and pain he is in, he has remained incredibly gentle and is so so soft to take snackies out your hand.

He gets an A+ for being the bestest doggo!

💓MIGALOO IS OUT OF EMERGENCY SURGERY 💓

HUGE thank you to the team at My Own Vet for performing the emergency surgery on a saturday!!

Unfortunately, the surgeon doesn't know if there is enough skin integrity to with hold the switches due to the duration the wound has been left.

He said he would do his best but breakdown is very likely which means a long road ahead for Migaloo but we are hopeful ☺️

🩷🥺FOSTER TO ADOPT NEEDED FOR MIGALOO 🥺🩷

We asked "Nanny" to take a video of Migaloo because we are still dumbfounded.

The lies made up about this dog are beyond cruel and quite frankly, are not of sound mind.

FACTS: He was attacked by 3 other dogs at once.... TWICE. He sustained horrific injuries left Untreated for 6.5 days.

We aren't even going to post the lies just yet as we are waiting for all the charges but I ask the public to use their common sense to answer this question:

Remember this dog is in excruciating pain with Untreated wounds. He has only JUST received pain relief at the time this video was taken. Lord knows what treatment he sustained at their hands after the dog attack despite them admitting it was their dogs fault but HE was blammed for 1 persons injuries to separate the fight.

Does this dog look like an aggressive dangerous dog to you? If you need a 50/50 hint ...we can't help you there!

This boy is still a puppy and had the SH%%TEST first owners and now worse foster carers. So we are hoping and praying that someone out there is willing to open their hearts to this goofball and give him the home he deserves.

We are fully prepared he may need rehabilitation now with other dogs thanks to the 2 dog pack attacks on him. We will guide you through this process with our behaviourist.

He is still a puppy so he is cliche mouthy with excitement but knows to sit, great recall and highly highly affectionate as you can see.

Our trainer is based in tarampa so looking for a Queensland home for this tub of goo.

🚩🚩🚩WOW...... THIS IS HOW THEY LEFT MIGALOO FOR NEARLY A WEEK 🚩🚩🚩

These are NOT minor injuries at all. Look at the size of these holes left in his leg from their dogs and yet.... call themselves animal lovers yet THEY REFUSED TO TAKE HIM TO THE VET OUT OF SPITE.

This poor boy must have be in AGONY every single day since the attack and they LEFT HIM LIKE THIS?

He will need emergency surgery tomorrow to repair these extensive Injuries.

WE HAVE MIGALOO BACK.

He was dumped on a road by his owners.
Their neighbour was behind and picked him up (hence we know who owner was)
He was sent to emergency foster.
He was then sent to current foster.

Current fosters dogs attacked him twice.
They then lied about their own Injuries and reported him to the police which we all know leads to dangerous dog declaration and death.

After we caught them out on the lies regarding their injuries, they refused to return him to us and refused to get him medical treatment for his injuries.

He is currently being treated for wounds that he sustained more than 5 days ago which they deliberately refused medical treatment for claiming "yes he's suffering" but intentionally wouldn't take him to get help to spite admins. Yes they actually put this in writing.

We are just grateful we have him back and he is now safe and getting the medical attention he deserves after their dogs attacked him 🙏

D.A.R.E’s Mission and Vision

Domestic Animal Rescue & Education Inc (D.A.R.E) opened its doors as a registered charity on June 1st, 2020 – dedicated to saving the lives of Border Collies and other Australian domestic animals. We are proud to state that we are one of the very few animal rescue organisations that operate as a 100% no-kill. That means we will never euthanize an animal due to finance, behaviour, age, or medical ailments if a treatment is available.

Domestic Animal Rescue & Education is comprised of a registered nurse and her passionate incredible volunteers, who just like you, wanted to make a difference to the welfare of our furry friends. Here at D.A.R.E, we endeavor to be the pre-eminent animal welfare organisation that has a holistic approach to rescue and rehabilitation of the most vulnerable animals in our community – the abandoned, abused, elderly, sick, misunderstood and orphaned.

Specialising in the beautiful Border Collie breed, we help rehabilitate and place them in new homes specific to the breed idiosyncrasies. We have a multidisciplinary team made up of foster carers, trainers, chiropractors, veterinarians, physiotherapists, volunteers, and photographers who own, understand and all share our passion for the breed, therefore, giving them the best opportunity of a second chance.

Nothing is too hard for us. We will stop at nothing to save even 1 animal. We do up to 5000km a month in road trips to save animals from even the most rural areas. We foster our babies with tender loving care to ensure they are the best version of themselves before going to their furrever homes. They all come vaccinated, wormed, microchipped, flea, desexed, and loved. We rely on public donations to keep our operation going. We do not get assistance from the government so our Founder and volunteers pay a lot out of the kindness of their own hearts. All donations, volunteers, foster carers are welcome!
