Part 3 - the quit and struggle - Today is a great sequence showing me firstly showing her what’s in there and how it works. Then when she is first attempting to work it out I show her a few times how to tap it and what happens when you do. Then I do less intervention and let her struggle for a bit- it’s so important young dogs learn to work through some struggle as that is growth. That builds skills to survive but also for pets skills to have a more fulfilled life.I then don’t help at all when she is asking for help, she quits for a second and sits down in defeat then looks up at me for help, she then gets up comes towards me asking for help. I stay neutral and ignore her so within a fleeting moment she goes back to try again. Once she has tried a fair bit she gets a win, I do help a tiny bit however her going back to it after quitting is when she started to actually cognitively start to problem solve - before she knew it she was fully capable of getting those treats out herself!!The puzzle was left with her afterwards for only 5 minutes with a timer on so that she never gets bored of the toy, it’s taken when she is still playing which makes it even more valuable when she gets it back tomorrow! This time will grow as hee attention span grows. From the initial first contact with this toy through to her succeeding in getting the reward out herself was 8.22 minutes and then her 5 minute reward session. For food rewards toys and puzzles it’s important to teach the dog how to work things out or most of them will quit if it’s too difficult purely out of frustration and boredom - boredom comes from the toy being too high of a skill or challenge level for the dog so they dog never actually wins the reward. #flossy #jackrussell #jackrussellpuppy #dogtraining #dogtrainer #perthdogtrainer #obedience #obediencetraining #urbanwolfeperth#THINKDOG #heel #petdog #dogneutrality #focusandengagement #babydawg

Good job Busta Good boy Busta he wasn’t aggressive he was over excited and crazy amount of energy simmering under the lid - this is the first meeting between Busta and another dog in a controlled environment like this since his furever family brought him home 🥰 #dogtraining #dogtrainer #perthdogtrainer #obedience #obediencetraining #urbanwolfeperth #workingrottweiler #THINKDOG #heel #petdog #dogneutrality #focusandengagement #rottweiler #petrottweiler #rottweilersofinstagram #groupclass #reactivedog #reactivity #reactivedogtraining
