Weaning done and dusted....... We have set them up for success - we got their mums to teach them about feeders , we got their weights and got some good protection via barbervax from worms, and we have our war plan to join ewe lambs - we means no days off from here untill 7 months old. Little weaners need more protein - we focus on that for these guys and the mums on the some dry hill country ! Even got some protein into Tim as well
Draft lists are handy little tools to create value using EID tags - we are running a “ quick tap” AI program on our research girls - how soon after weaning can we AI ? Draft lists can be created in excel or cloud based software like Gallagher Animal Management APS
Dave aka Q branch putting thunder bird 1 to the test ….. chew chew train heading to the Weaners and possibly blow a tire ! - they’ve been imprinted so should be ready to roll
Out at Dusty Downs Hermidale - White Dorpers and Boer Goats getting our little research flock ready for AI but also checking in on the weaning process here . We do weaner programs for Cattle but not so much for sheep - why ? These guys and getting their Weaners educated and imprinted - playing the long game - love it
Game on in Walgett for Harvest ……. When you’re not doing sheep work driving around checking out harvest is pretty cool - why sheep are better than cattle reason #494 ….. stumbles aren’t that good for 2nd tier ruminants
Control what you can control ….. we are hoping Barbervax will allow us to control the tempo of worm control and avoiding losses while we are busy elsewhere…… to be continued
Getting on the attack with barbers pole -Just in the nick of time finished the 2nd barbervax - one to go and then we are in a 6 weekly cycle . Our aim - no reactionary drenches or production losses due to high FECs. - get off the no plan plan and onto a For Flocks plan
Barbers pole - can we control the tempo of operations, control a controllable and not be caught out with massive worm counts ? We reckon we can through barbervax a vaccine program against you know who - want information se d us a DM ….. also DNA and genomics are awesome until some randy
Bugger jumps the fence ….. now we have to DNA everyone . We are doing the rams here but the real value is in the lambs …… and guess what no WHP
We’ve heard of Roos , pigs , emus and even deers smashing crops …… but never Brolgas!! North of Clermont QLD
Happy Friday! Awesome kick off to lambing just finishing 1st cycle - plenty of lambs - good mothers and importantly plenty of Feed on Offer - god bless clover !! These our our shedding research flock - we have used T90 ewe lamb joining guidelines and so far so good !
Our research girls ready for the stork to visit - these girls scanned in the first cycle and we completed a prelambing treatment - vacc , drench ,multimin ……. The FOO is below ideal but more than 30% legume so after 17 days we will bring the feeders - we used teasers and got 80% in first cycle - we are high in BCS to fingers crossed the dystocia levels stay ok
