6 weeks ago Our research posse ( green brand N=110) ) has zero-ish epg while their cohort they ran with had 600epg . Our controls got drenched - ours barbervaxd ….. today is the booster day - super interested to see what the counts are and if our vacc program is holding up
- our goal no unplanned drenching of research mob . Too be continued

❓Are your ram checks done ❓

Pre-joining ram checks should be completed 8-12 weeks ahead of the joining date, as this prevents any unnecessary disruption to s***m production during the joining period.

Chance favours the prepared! - and this is one important management activity that can be planned well ahead and undertaken in a timely fashion to ensure a smooth and successful joining period.

Pre-joining ram checks will ensure that your ram team is:
✅ Fit not fat (or too skinny)
✅ 4 T's are done (teeth, toes, testicles, tackle)
✅ Animal health and husbandry are up to date - flies, lice, worms, vaccinations
✅ Wool length is appropriate for joining
✅ All rams are present, fit to join, and on track for their 'tour of duty'

👆 As an additional reminder - if you are feeding ewes during joining, be sure to get the rams onto the same ration, to avoid any grain poisoning.

It’s hotter than Hati for a lot of us - not so for a brother from an American mother Wyatt Catron Water freezing in the scanning crate !

It was so cold at one spot this morning, we had icicles from the scanning fluid! Wrapping up a 2 day trip with 990 goats and 230 ewes. It’s during times like this that I realize my good friend at For flocks sake - Sheep production services probably never has to worry about ice when he’s scanning!

Can we crank the dial on commercial AI in sheep ? We’ve put the bat signal up - got a posse to fight crime / repro results and deployed some new toys Alfred gave us ( ovastim and multimin) - may as well play for the win in the sheep game and get some genetic compound interest ! Awesome to work with awesome posse- first time Ai-ers and crushed it before it got real hot

We’ve seen challenges with big summers creating a thick canopy that challenges herbage / clover development in winter if you are lucky enough to get it - what else ? Oxalates ?

Weaning done and dusted....... We have set them up for success - we got their mums to teach them about feeders , we got their weights and got some good protection via barbervax from worms, and we have our war plan to join ewe lambs - we means no days off from here untill 7 months old. Little weaners need more protein - we focus on that for these guys and the mums on the some dry hill country ! Even got some protein into Tim as well

Draft lists are handy little tools to create value using EID tags - we are running a “ quick tap” AI program on our research girls - how soon after weaning can we AI ? Draft lists can be created in excel or cloud based software like Gallagher Animal Management APS

Out at Dusty Downs Hermidale - White Dorpers and Boer Goats getting our little research flock ready for AI but also checking in on the weaning process here . We do weaner programs for Cattle but not so much for sheep - why ? These guys and getting their Weaners educated and imprinted - playing the long game - love it

Game on in Walgett for Harvest ……. When you’re not doing sheep work driving around checking out harvest is pretty cool - why sheep are better than cattle reason #494 ….. stumbles aren’t that good for 2nd tier ruminants

Control what you can control ….. we are hoping Barbervax will allow us to control the tempo of worm control and avoiding losses while we are busy elsewhere…… to be continued

Getting on the attack with barbers pole -Just in the nick of time finished the 2nd barbervax - one to go and then we are in a 6 weekly cycle . Our aim - no reactionary drenches or production losses due to high FECs. - get off the no plan plan and onto a For Flocks plan

Barbers pole - can we control the tempo of operations, control a controllable and not be caught out with massive worm counts ?
