This year we saw thousands of Australia’s best pups enter our Aussie Dog of the Year competition. We’ve loved hearing inspiring stories about your pooches. But most of all, we’ve loved seeing the smiles your furry friends have and the smiles they put on our faces. We’re proud to introduce Raffie as your 2023 Aussie Dog of the Year! Congratulations!
Raffie is an incredible dog, she brings such joy to so many friends and family. She once picked up on a stranger's seizure coming on when we were in a Bunnings store, just minutes before his symptoms had even started. She just had to get to this man and started pawing at his leg. He then started having pins and needles and that’s when he knew he had an episode coming on and needed to take medication. We realised Raffie had known, despite never being trained for this before! Fighting lymphoma since May last year, Raffie has undergone numerous chemotherapy treatments, but you would never know. She’s been through so much in her short life yet still absolutely loves life and nothing gets her down. She radiates happiness to those around her. She is such a special girl. Forever grateful to have her by my side, she’s a true inspiration 💕

Look at that smile!
Alfie the Whippet has every reason to be cheery as he’s fought to overcome Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA). Meet Billy...This adorable furry pal is one of our 2022 Aussie Dog Of The Year finalists AND an actual firefighter. When he’s not out fighting fires, Billy is learning to be an obedience dog and has raised lots of money for charity including Guide Dogs Australia, Black Dog Foundation and Life's Little Treasures Foundation. Although we can only have one winner - we love them all. Guarding over his smallest human (and best friend), this spotty pooch is a valued member of his family and our Simparica Trio community.

Astro is a very-much loved member of a family needing comfort. But he also has a very important ‘day job’. After the completion of a therapy dog course he was appointed as the 'Director of Joy' at Maryborough District Health Service. Astro loves his job, always mingling with staff, patients and residents of our Aged Care facilities. It is impossible to interact with him and not walk away smiling. There’s nothing quite like the unconditional love from our furry best friends…So, though we can only crown one winner, we love to celebrate as many entries as possible!

Duke is no ordinary dog, he’s the wellbeing dog at Yarrabilba State Secondary College and his job is to make everyone happy. He works 3 days a week and has unsurprisingly managed to touch the hearts of students and teachers, assisting in de-escalating most situations. In his off time, Duke loves to run and swim. Living on a rural block, ticks are everywhere…So his family is thankful for a product that keeps dogs safe. Another 2022 Aussie Dog Of The Year finalist, worth celebrating.

You know what your day needs? A Black Labrador in a field of daisies…you’re welcome. From humble beginnings as a rescue dog, Lola was trained for over 500 hours by an Inmate of Bathurst Correctional Centre to help inmates reconnect with the community before release. We were overwhelmed with your adorable Aussie Dog of the Year entries, it was very tough competition! If we could crown every furry companion a winner, we certainly would – however this year, there was one little pal that stood out for us. Introducing our 2022 Aussie Dog of the Year, Ted E Bear. Ted is 45kgs of pure joy and a support therapy dog, contributing to the overall wellness for a team of incredibly hard-working paramedics. A very worthy winner! We received over 4,000 entries and it was extremely difficult to pick a winner – we could have awarded 4,000 prizes.
Melissa’s story captured a number of the challenges Australians faced in 2021 and the positive effect our dogs have had on our lives and how they helped us to cope.
“Our beautiful Labrador Pippa has been our shining light throughout the ups and downs we have faced as a result of Covid. As a Midwife working tirelessly on the front line, coming home to this beautiful face is what got me through every day. After a tough shift, she knows how to instantly pick me up. She has been a companion for my teenage son whilst home-schooling by himself every day, which as a single parent, has given me comfort knowing they have each other whilst I’m at work. She is the friendliest, happiest pup I have ever met, and I can’t imagine my life without her!”
