Does anyone have any contacts within Derrimut 24:7 Gym

We are having some issues where they are refusing access to our handlers with thier Qualified and Certified Assistance Dogs, which has come as a directive from thier head office.

We have tried to contact in so many but failed!

We would like to work with them to help educate them better as an organisation regarding disability.

Thanks

If you are looking for a trained Labrador that hasn’t quite made the grade within the assistance dog world feel free to get in touch as we occasionally have dogs that become available.

When our dogs are rehomed it’s important to note that they are not to be homed with people who will be relying on them for working purposes or any environment where they are being anything more than an amazing well trained pet dog.

Canine Assist and University of South Australia need your help!

We’re working alongside researchers at University of South Australia to explore how dogs work with children with delayed speech or non verbal children. So if you have experience with this or have a child with speech disorders and have a dog that has had an impact on the child, please get in touch with us at [email protected] with full contact details.

Good morning Canine Assist World

We are looking into the dynamics of producing a weekly video blog specifically for training Assistance, and Therapy dogs, or family dogs for those people with disabilities.

For a small fee it would give people access to one of the leading assistant dog trainers in the country, training methods, advice and hands on skills. It will include chats and advice with other trainers all over the world, video demonstrations and direct advice and guidance as well as focused skills based on what you request.

What is important is we will never show you the best dogs, the most highly trained dogs with the perfect picture. We will show the process, the methods surrounding building the dog and the fun that can be had even with the most untrained dogs.

If you feel this would be a benefit to you or others please either like this post or comment below.

Equally please share this so that we can really get a gauge to see if it’s something that people would like to see and hear.

Thanks

This is such an important message.

It’s as important if not more so, that a working dog, be it a protection dog, herding dog or even an Assistance dog to understand positive behaviour both on AND OFF duty!

So many get caught up with the work and forget the bit in between!

If you are one of those people and need help understanding and enjoying your dog then get in touch by emailing us

PLEASE SHARE THIS POST!!!

It is too hot to take your dogs out!

I hear the screams of 'but he will get bored' or 'he needs his walk'

But if you take your dog out you may cause injury!

There are plenty of other things you can do:

1) Put some veg and water or similar into a baking dish and freeze it for them to lick
2) play hide and seek indoors
3) hide kibble around the house for them to find
4) play in a sprinkler in the garden on the grass (not fake grass or hard floors)
5) get some mind games for the dog
6) do some training - sits downs stays etc
7) Dance! that's right dance, pout some music on and dance with your dog
8) Just chill out and relax, teach your dog that relaxation is as good as anything else.

Canine Assist, Training Dog and Handler as one

Experienced Force Free Training

My name is Richard and I have been working with dogs and dog teams for over 25 years. My passion came from my parents and our lovable family dog ‘Ben’. He was a big German Shepherd with a massive heart! Ben taught me so much about Dogs, how they work, what they love and how they learn. It was from there that my love affair with dogs blossomed! Since learning so much from Ben, my career has developed and I have had the privilege of training dogs and handlers in a variety of settings from the Police to Search and Rescue to Assistance dogs for a variety of roles. These days I use the skills and qualifications I have gained over the past 25 years to train Canine Assistance Teams and Pet dogs and handlers from all settings including, Family Dogs, Autism Assistance dogs, PTSD Assistance Dogs, Physical Disability Support dogs and have even helped several educational establishments obtain and train support dogs for pastoral services.
