Why every dog should have a “leave it” command
It’s all about impulse control! A leave it command can be beneficial is so many aspects of your dogs life to keep them safe such as not eating something harmful on your walks, ignoring another animal, not chasing another dogs ball at the beach
Want to learn this important skill? Book our next beginners class where we start teaching you the foundations of this trick and break it down into easy to follow steps for both you and your dog!

Courtney’s mom is on Safari and captured this adorable moment!
A baby or cub hyena discovered their safari vehicle and decided to do a little taste test of the tyres.
We absolutely melted watching this video! It’s so reminiscent of a puppy exploring their world and experiencing new textures and tastes.
So here is a friendly reminder…
Your puppy is a little baby predator! It is going to use its teeth and its mouth to explore its world, because that’s what they do! It’s important to their development. Make sure you have a solid management plan, to avoid your furniture falling prey (pun intended)! Enrichment toys can also be a big help during this time. My second thought watching this video, right after “AWWWWWW” was “Kong needs to sponser these dudes” 😂 @kongcompany

Tatum doing some myth busting!
👉 It’s a common myth, that greyhounds are incapable of sitting.
As seen here, whilst it may be a slightly awkward position for their long and muscled legs, they are perfectly capable of sitting!
Intermediate was a girls only affair today!
✨ Walk & Train w/ Odin! ✨
Odin is a 5mth old German Shepherd. He is currently enrolled in our Beginner’s course and is also doing a set of walk and trains to boost his progress!
👉 Odin’s mum wants him to walk like a good boy, especially when he’s full grown! So today we made that a goal. Keeping in mind the 5min/mth rule, we broke our session up with lots of breaks and practiced some of his skills from class.
BUT FIRST… We played! Odin was a big fan of the unicorn tail on our flirt pole. Allowing him to chase and tug and blow off some steam, meant that when I asked him to walk nicely, he was much more willing to play my game!
Moral of the story: Always enrich your dogs! Always set them up for success!
How to teach a recall This is one of our most asked questions! Keep reading for some tips and tricks that could help you
🔸 Use a long line - we highly recommend either or 5m or 10m - we do sell 5m on our website!
🔸 Practice in low distraction environments first (your own backyard at home is a good start, low level traffic parks)
🔸 You need to be the most exciting thing to your dog, make sure you’re equipped with high value treats and/or a toy!
Reach out to the @bestlifedogsau trainers if you want more assistance or book our Beginners Group Class where we touch to teach the fundamentals of a good recall (come)

🔸Practice sitting calmly in the waiting room and maintaining eye contact around other dogs and distractions
🔸 Practice using the scales/place training
🔸 Practice calmly walking from car to vets
Bring your training pouch and some high value treats and make your next training visit at your local vets! Tag us in your training videos, we would love to see
