The Farm It Forward Tasmania Tuesday sewing group have been very busy, making their own projects - bags, baby neck scarves, bowl cosies, pot holders, taking up curtains and creating patchwork squares.
Everyone is supported by our wonderful teacher Lyn Grey and our mentors Sharon Busscher and Wendy Newman, to work on their own projects, or learn how to create something new with patient guidance.

If you would like to come along to our sewing classes, we have plenty of sewing machines, overlockers, fabric and all the bits and bods needed to create something of your choice or you can BYO machine and fabric and sew alongside like-minded friends - the group is Very welcoming and supportive and will assist where needed.
All skill levels welcome

Our wonderful friend and local masseur Marion Taylor ran another FREE seated massage workshop for Farm It Forward Tasmania yesterday.
Not everyone who had booked in arrived for the workshop, but we had a small (and very happy!) group learning how to massage another person in a seated position - back, neck, shoulders, arms, hands and head - and Marion also showed how to use acupressure points to relive anxiety, stress and nausea. We finished with using EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique or sometimes known as the Tapping Technique) to restore energy balance amongst other benefits.

We Love that Marion has offered this wonderful workshop for free and as a way for her to pay it forward and support our community.
Thankyou Marion for sharing your time, skills and knowledge to help others to practice self-care and care for others - we have really appreciated it

A HUGE Thankyou to Andrea, Jess and Craig of Inspire Curtains and Blinds for their large donation of curtain remnants and samples for our sewing groups charity and other projects.
So far with what we have received, we have made bags for Laylah's Gifts (to fill with items for our more vulnerable community), as well as bags for our sewing machines to keep everything together and easily accessible. We have also shared what we have and passed a lot of the remnants to the Live Well Tasmania sewing group for their projects.

We are very grateful for the kindness and generosity of our community and local businesses who support us in supporting others :)

Thankyou x

Rohan Muthumala, the patient teacher of the tai chi for arthritis classes, ran his 4th session for Farm It Forward Tasmania today.

Everyone is looking so calm and relaxed after his classes - it is such a peaceful and mindful activity with great health benefits for all who participate.

There won't be a teacher run class next week (23 Aug) as Rohan will be away, but the students would still like to meet at the Cam Rise Uniting Church building to practice on that day

We had three very happy beginner wet felters this afternoon - creating lovely pieces to be admired or put to use :)

Wet felting is an amazing process - changing fluffy wool to a sturdy felted piece that can be used in lots of ways that will last and last, if well cared for.

Next week, it will be the Advanced wet felters turn - either making felted beads/tubes and cordage, or a bowl or they can work on their own project.

Wet Felting Workshop (Advanced) with Alison Luck
Friday 23 August
1pm to 3pm
Cam Rise Uniting Church - through the gate
3 Wragg St, Somerset

Cost: $10 if providing your own wool to work on an individual project or $20 if using Alisons wool

On Saturday morning, we had a seaweed cooking class with local author and Tasmanian Native Edible plant expert Rees Campbell :)

Rees shared some great information about our Tasmanian seaweeds - all are edible, not all are palatable :)
Some other interesting facts are that seaweed is very high in iodine which has great health benefits for us and that seaweed doesn't lose any of its nutrients when cooked.

Thankyou everyone for joining us at the cooking class on Saturday - it was lovely to see you all!
And a huge thankyou to Rees for running the cooking class and for sharing her huge amount of knowledge with us.

We had a small but productive Polymer Clay Workshop today with Quintin - we had so much fun that we have invited Quintin back to do it all over again next month.

We chose to make iced doughnuts today and they looked good enough to eat!

Thankyou to our guests for coming along today to spend the afternoon making delicious looking creations - it was lovely to see you.

Thankyou so much to Quintin for such patient guidance and clear instruction - it was an enjoyable and relaxing activity (kneading the clay great exercise for our hands also!)

We look forward to the next workshop with Quintin - date to be determined for September; likely a Monday and a Friday afternoon

On Saturday, we had a full day sewing session at the Cam Rise Uniting Church. Everyone was able to work on their own projects, but we had a few working on the project of a lined bag with internal pockets organised by our wonderful teacher, Lyn Grey.

It was a very productive day with Rachael and Suzanne working on Rachael's soft velvet curtains - Melinda finished her Japanese Wraparound Apron - and the rest of the group made the bag with almost all of them being completed.

We love Melinda's apron and will be offering it as a set project for those who want to make it, for an upcoming Saturday sewing session (which will be held on the first Saturday of the month - 9am to 3pm)

Well done everyone - you are such a lovely group of people and it was so great to see everyone supporting and helping each other
