Port Macquarie Farm A small family farm within the ‘town’ of Port Macquarie. We are developing a syntropics food forest for fresh food & field days.

In March 2021 Robert & Bronwyn bought a unique parcel of 12 Hectares (30 acres) in the town area of Port Macquarie. Port Macquarie Farm is 12 hectares. 6 hectares of agricultural land which is our house & gardens, and with a syntropic food forest in the early planning. This will consist of a huge variety of primarily fruit trees, berries and vines. This is an exciting vision of providing fresh or

ganic produce especially less common fruits for ourselves & others. Figs, blackberries, persimmons, custard apples, pepino, feijoa, and more. The other six hectares is natural wetlands, brimming with wildlife & flowering vegetation.

“Port Macquarie Farm” is the headquarters of Chicken Caravan. This award winning innovative agricultural machinery business is owned by 2 of our sons. They operate out of the very large shed and use some of the ‘agricultural land for displaying their products & for prototyping their latest innovations. www.chickencaravan.com

We will be conducting workshops around sustainable/regenerative agriculture. Our mission is to educate, demonstrate and inspire others.

Friday on the Farm. ""Growing Health""
Spring is here and it is exciting preparing the soil in readiness for the coming crops.
On Saturday the 26th we held a Spring Farm Tour. I spoke and demonstrated our wood chip vegetable garden. It has not rained for many weeks, yet within 75mm of the surface there is moisture. Almost all the visitors were surprised by this. The wood chips are like a giant sponge. The tour was educational and people felt inspired to get into their own gardens.

Delicious.
I've just had my favorite meat dish. A bowl of the best, mild, tasty, tender, FRESH, superb, nutrient dense food. LIVER.
After tonights meal, I have come to the conclusion that venison liver is the best flavour. Tomorrow I will am going to make venison pate.
Last night Daniel OBrien shot a deer on our property. Together with his friend Bernie they skinned and gutted it. I was watching with my stainless steel bowl ready for the heart, kidneys and the liver.
The kidneys were also great and Rob enjoyed some heart.
FRESH is the best.

Friday on the Farm 27th Jan. We are enjoying the the produce.

When to Harvest a RIPE rockmelon
• A ripe melon should smell like a rockmelon as they become fragrant when ripe.
• A ripe rockmelon should be beige, sandy gold, or creamy yellow with a very faded green undertone. Try and avoid very green melons as green = unripe.
• There should be a large, smooth yellowish spot or patch on the surface, where the rockmelon is resting in the garden
• The stem will come away from the melon leaving a slight concave indent in the melon.

Most melons in the shops are picked green. If the melon does not have the above factors it is NOT ripe. If there is a bit of a stem attached means that it was picked green.
