Dardanup Pony Club invited me to coach some clicker training at their camp. Riders learning a whole new training method and then teaching it to their horses in 45 minutes is no easy feat. But for each group we managed to learn how clicker training works, its benefits, how to apply it and then practised it with each of their horses! The riders did great and so too did their horses❣️#ponyclubcamp #ponyclubaustralia #ponyclub #horseclickertraining
Responding when distracted…
To help your dog pay attention to you when you want their attention (like when going past other dogs, people, wildlife) it’s helpful to rehearse them correctly responding to your cue in the face of less urgent distractions like Penny here when she sniffs the bushes.

Lego and I competed in our first horse agility competition last year and won 3rd place. It’s an amazing sport that includes horse wellbeing in its judging criteria, is inclusive of clicker trained horses and is fun of course! #horseagility #ethicalhorsesports #ethicalequestrian

Play is a great way to encourage mental stimulation, exercise and bonding with your dog.
But not all play is created equal for all dogs. If you’re not sure what kind of play your dog likes most, experiment with different types and observe when they are most enthusiastic and enjoying themselves.
My dog Bonzai loves most:
- searching and destroying (like in this video, pulling out toys from a purpose made toy barn)
- chasing and being chased
