☘️ S P R I N G I S H E R E ☘️

Although today is only the second day of spring, with wonderful rainfall across our region and the beautiful warm days we’ve been enjoying, clover has popped up and powered ahead over the last few weeks. Gussie snapped this photo two weeks ago, with conditions for growth since then being perfect.

Whilst clover in conjunction with other plant species can contribute to a high performing pasture, these factors can also present risks to horses and cattle.

Cattle grazing lush legume pastures that are growing at a rapid rate are at high risk of developing bloat, a painful condition which can cause sudden death.

For our equine friends, the high levels of soluble carbohydrates and protein present in green and growing clover poses great risk of laminitis. This is also an extremely painful condition which can require lifelong management.

If you’re concerned about your large animals being affected by these conditions, please get in touch to discuss treatment, prevention and management options.

We hope everyone has a wonderful spring 🌸

Hello July! Are we the only ones feeling as though this year is flying by at a rapid rate?! August, cute foals and hints of spring will be upon us before we know it!

For all our August foaling broodmares, it is now time to vaccinate against tetanus. Vaccinating your pregnant broodmares against tetanus in the last 4-6 weeks of their pregnancy is crucial in aiding the formation of maternal antibodies, transferred to the foal after birth via colostrum. This provides foals with protection in the first weeks of life, whilst also providing the mare protection during her peri-partum period.

We have you covered for all your vaccine needs. 💉

Don’t hesitate to get in touch to organise vaccination of your pregnant broodmare 🐴

We’ve again partnered up with Randlab to host another equine gastroscopy day here at CVVS!

It is estimated that up to 95% of horses, especially performance horses, may have gastric ulcers. Ulcers can cause a number of changes in our horses, including weight loss, poor body condition, behavioural changes, poor performance, poor appetite, dull or rough coat, girthiness and windsucking. The only way to accurately diagnose gastric ulcers is by gastroscopy.

🐮Bovine Reproductive Disease 🦠

Reproductive disease is a major cause of reduced fertility in beef herds and can be costly to a producer’s enterprise. Here we have outlined three of the most commonly occurring reproductive diseases.

The good news is, we have a range of testing options and vaccination plans to help our producers establish a well-informed approach to disease control.

If you’d like any further information on bovine reproductive disease, testing or vaccination plans, we’re here to help.

🧬 Spermatogenesis is the process in which s***m are produced in the seminiferous tubules of the te**es. The duration of this process in stallions is about 57 days. Consequently, to ensure we are best supporting semen quality in spring time, it is crucial to ensure our stallion’s nutritional needs are satisfied not only during the breeding season, but for the two months prior.

In preparation of the breeding season, there is a slightly increased demand in daily nutrient intake for our breeding stallions.

If you would like to chat nutrient requirements or feed options with us, we’d love to help 🌾

With the arrival of July comes the excitement of foals beginning to arrive next month! 🐴 Vaccinating broodmares against tetanus in the last 4-6 weeks of their pregnancy is crucial in the formation of maternal antibodies that are transferred to the foal via colostrum. This is an effective way of providing early protection to our foals before they commence their own vaccination regimes.

It is now time to vaccinate your August foaling mares! For all your vaccination requirements, we’ve got you covered ✅

Cudgegong Valley Veterinary Services is a new local business based out of Kandos NSW. The owners, Wes and Gussie have returned to the area from a large veterinary practice in the Riverina, where they expanded their knowledge of bovine and equine production and reproduction. Wes and Gussie’s drive and ability to meet the needs of owners and producers alike, comes from their own interest in equine and agricultural industries. They aim to provide what they have always sought after in a veterinary service provider; a dependable, down to earth, local service that understands the needs of both the animals and owners. The pair supports the often-complicated combination of empathy and efficiency to reach optimal client outcomes. Cudgegong Valley Veterinary Services offer a comprehensive range of production, reproductive and ambulatory services to clients across the region, providing a local choice for all of your large animal veterinary needs.
