“It is widely known that wind turbines and birds do not mix, and the impact of turbines on raptor species is particularly concerning. This is because of the population dynamics of species such as wedge-tailed eagles, which take four to six years to reach breeding maturity and form breeding pairs, and usually produce only one live chick a year.

Wedge-tailed eagles (Aquila audax) are widespread on mainland Australia, but the Tasmanian distinct subspecies (fleayi) is endangered, with only an estimated 350 breeding pairs remaining, having been hunted in the past with a bounty (like the extinct thylacine). It is listed as endangered because it has a population of less than 1000 mature individuals, which may be declining due to a number of identified threatening processes. These include loss of habitat, especially nesting habitat, nest disturbance, unnatural mortality persecution (shooting, poisoning, trapping), collision (powerlines, vehicles, fences, wind turbines) and electrocution.”

Still believe renewable energy is good for the environment?

Not in Australia - but in Yellowstone Park - such a beautiful moment in time where the community patiently waited for these precious sentient beings to just do their thing. The gorgeous little calves just needed a nap on the warm bitumen road - love this ♥️♥️♥️♥️

Love this ♥️

Living in a beautiful high altitude forest in East Trentham comes with a few downsides, such as some harsh weather conditions. We experience much rain, regular snowfalls, rain, hail, rain, frost, rain, storms, more rain and temperatures dropping well below zero.

Because many of our rescued kangaroos come in sick or injured, they need warm accommodation for their recovery and often recuperate alongside our wood heater, which is rarely out. As such, once released, they are not well prepared for the outside conditions during winter and we therefore provide shelter sheds to allow them to escape the worst of the weather and to become gradually acclimatised.

But even on a sunny day, at a balmy 8 degrees C, fresh bedding straw is irresistible, and the straw doesn’t stay fresh for long. Kangaroos, like ourselves and other animals, can suffer in the cold. Not all of the kangaroo visitors to the fresh straw are animals that we treated or raised! Word has got out through the forest. We go through about 500 bales a year at an annual cost of around $3000. This is just one of the costs of running a shelter.

But look at those happy faces.

A shout out to every vehicle driver in Australia.
Please please stop if you hit an animal, and check to see if it’s still alive, or has a joey in or out of pouch.
This is not an uncommon sight for the rescuers across Australia who help our struggling wildlife on a daily basis.
Thank you for those that help 🙏💜

Travelling today and drove past this absolutely heartbreaking sight, only metres from the road on a busy route. It was raining and this little joey was freezing cold and terrified. I snapped a quick photo as I gently approached him, he looked up at me and gave a weak chitter. I scooped him up and tucked him into my warm cardigan, mud and all. He is warmed now and seems to be okay.
How I wish people would stop and check what they hit :'(
UPDATE: 24 hours later- joey is warm, alert and drinking well. He's going to be fine 😊

Meet Jenah & Ellie.
Some of you may have seen a post about a Koala running up Kellerman drive St Helens Park on social media.....this is her.
You could see from video she had a used pouch so it was important she was assessed to see if she was ok.
Jenah was reported to us by numerous people via messenger, txt msg and call as well as through our office in Sydney Wildlife and the rescue was attended to promptly.
She was located not far from the Kellerman drive & Appin rd intersection up a small Pine tree however she was right in the middle up the top.
The area was to dangerous to leave her and the area was unsuitable to set up trap to safely contain her.
Thankyou also goes out to Campbelltown Lost Found and Injured admin/volunteer Colin Rees who assisted with rescue so she could be safely contained and assessed by us before seeing the vet for further assessment.
At the time of rescue we did not visibly see the joey on board but knew she had a joey by the video on social media.
It was later we saw her luttle joey pop its head out between her forearms and we knew then she definately needed a vet trip to double check all was ok with both of them.

After seeing the vets we found out that mum (Jenah) is approx 7yrs old, she is only young still and is 6kg while she is small she has very good muscle tone.
There is an Old wound on her back which appears to be an old bite mark which is about 3wks old and has healed itself.
Her physical exam overall was good.
Jenah may have possibly been in contact with some type of pesticide from where she came out of which has caused her to be abit disorientated, nauseated and salivate abit.
We are monitoring her and bubs over the next couple days and if all is good then we will be releasing her and joey in a safe location away from the roads to give her and little Ellie a 2nd chance.

Little Ellie is only approx 190 days (6mths) and she is a good weight for her size and such an active and inquisitive little one.
Ellie is feeding well from mum and investigating leaf when mum is eating.

Hopefully these 2 will thrive back out in the wild when they get their 2nd chance in a couple days times

Please help us find this koala - very poor body weight, needs urgent care.

Bit thirsty there mate? 🍻

Just like any Queenslander on a Friday afternoon, this little koala was caught having a drink at Redcliffe Golf Course.

Studies suggest the iconic Aussie marsupials rarely drink from waterholes, but instead are known to hydrate themselves by drinking running rainwater on tree trunks and by absorbing moisture from gum leaves.
