Josie Shannon was no star on the racetrack, Josie chose to wait until she retired to shine bright!
Cheree was looking for a safe and reliable mount for her daughter, on the other end of the line trainer and driver Matt Rue was looking for a loving home for his sweet mare.
Matt was confident Josie would quickly adapt to saddle life and would make someone very happy.
“Angel” as she has now been aptly renamed is shown below at only her second ride under saddle.

I ventured over to Club Menangle this morning to watch track work and debunk a theory.
“Standardbreds can’t canter”
Shown below are two horses who are both pacing bred, one is the galloping pace maker in the lead and the other is pacing with his “hopples” on.
Pacing bred Standardbreds will walk, trot, canter and pace.
Pacers will regularly canter/gallop in track work for fitness and will also have a light “hack around” mid week in between racing.
