Redefine Canine

🚨🚨🚨 𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠!!! 🚨🚨🚨 Large field socialisation groups were put on hold due to the extreme weather we were experiencing at the start of this year. However now that the heat is becoming more manageable, we can finally start hosting group social classes! 😱😱😱 There will be a small dog & puppy group for those up to 10kgs and a large dog group for those over 10kgs. In order for the classes to run smoothly there will be some rules in place to ensure all the dogs enjoy their time in the classes which will be discussed with each client in our initial discussions and vetting for the social class 🐶 The main rule to keep it fair is only dogs that have trained with Redefine Canine will be able to access these group classes. I would love to service every single person & dog however it is not physically possible, so the decision has been made to keep it in house to clients only 💜 In order to start the process of hosting these classes we need to create our core green pack of dogs. These are dogs who are regularly social with other dogs and attend play dates or have multiple doggy friends and can read and respond to body language well. These dogs will become our motivational speakers of the whole pack to help others learn respectful play and manners ✅ Once we have a great pack of green dogs working well together, we can then add in those that are social but maybe struggle to understand another dogs body language and are a bit pushy (yes labradors and staffys I am talking about you!) so we can teach them how to be social yet respectful of others. After that we will decide when to add in our yellow dogs to the pack which are those who struggle with nervousness or reactivity 🦮 So, if you have a “green dog” who is super social and can read and respect another dog’s body language and cues please reach out so we can discuss their suitability for the group! 💚 A reminder that I am currently on l

𝗜𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿’𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀? 🐶 If your dog is scared of loud noises, chances are they will be scared of fireworks as well! 💥 It is important to put a plan in place ready for tonight’s festivities so check out our handy hints below 🙂 📖 Research where fireworks will be happening in your area remembering there is usually an early session for the kids and a later session for the bringing in of the new year. Tonight at the marina there will be 8pm and midnight fireworks. 🏷 Make sure your dogs identification tags are up to date and secured on their collar. 🐕‍🦺 Take your dog for a walk early in the evening before the festivities kick off. 🍽 Feed them dinner via mental enrichment, this can include food dispensing toys or training. 😴 Bring your dog inside to settle before the activities start. If your dog is an outside only dog consider sharing your laundry or garage space with them for the evening, ensuring anything harmful is put away. 🏠 Close any windows and blinds to block out some of the sights and sounds of the fireworks. 📺 Play some calming music or leave on the tv to also help with the sound. 👕 Utilise calming alternatives like a thunder shirt or adaptil. 🌿 Natural remedies may also assist those with mild noise phobia to help calm and take the edge off. 💊 If this is a common occurrence your vet may have already prescribed fast acting medication. Be sure to read the instructions given by your vet for the most effective dosage and time to give. ⚽️ Play! If your dog loves to play then utilise some games to help pair the scary fireworks with fun. Be mindful this won't work for every dog. 🤪 Be prepared for the aftermath! If your dog is not noise phobic but instead reactive, you will face the aftermath from those that may have had a few too many. If possible secure your dogs for the eveni

I am finally finding time to sit down to reflect and write about my awesome weekend away with Jason Vasconi from Transform My Dog hosted by Dave at The National Canine Academy. Naturally these seminars also bring together a whole bunch of dog trainers and dog enthusiasts, which I love being able to connect with and expand that social circle to talk all things dog training! 🐶 I was super curious when I heard about Jason coming to the land of Aus and teaching us about something called 𝐋𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. Living in a small town we definitely don’t have the perks that the cities do with options for safe socialisation for our dogs so off I went to do some learning and I was not disappointed! 🤯 Large field socialisation allows dogs to interact in large open spaces under controlled supervision, think dog parks but much safer! The space allows dogs to engage in natural curious behaviours plus allow them to approach and retreat in their own time without feeling confined therefore fostering a much more positive experience for all 💜 The aim of large field socialisation is not play but good social skills, neutrality, confidence and fulfilling exercise which leads to a much more balanced and satisfied dog 🧘‍♀️ I took Otis with me on my road trip to trial in these classes and my anti-social dog who is not interested in interaction with other dogs at all was having an absolute ball and went and interacted with so many dogs! To see the transformation before my eyes truly sealed the deal for me….I LOVE large field socialisation. He also slept like a saint at the end of each day, which for a working line labrador is almost unheard of haha 💚💤 What I loved about the seminar is Jason’s ability to teach in a way that drew you in, we talked theory, played games, told bad dad jokes, watched video’s and then we put it all into practice. 🚨🚨🚨 Big Dog Pickups 🚨🚨🚨 I am away for a seminar this weekend which means there will be no Friday pickup this week ❌ To account for the workers in the group that usually pickup on Friday afternoons i will be doing a pickup either side of my class on Wednesday: ✅ 2.30-3.30pm ✅ 5.15-6.00pm If you would like to pickup on Wednesday please send me a message.
